bi/pan/ply lesbian rights!!! 💖
hey, if you’re bi/pan/ply and call yourself gay or a lesbian, that’s ok.
if you’re a bi man who reclaims slurs like “fag”, a bi woman who reclaims “dyke”, or a nonbinary person who reclaims either or both, that’s ok.
you’re not hurting anyone by using gay/lesbian as an umbrella term or reclaiming slurs that were historically used against all of us.
we so often have our sexualities erased by bigots in this community that we forget we used to be part of it, under the “gay” and “lesbian” labels. it’s ok to claim your history, you have that right 🏳️🌈
anyways, bi lesbians deserve love and respect and support for their bi lesbian identity
bi lesbian identity isn't inherently biphobic, lesbophobic, or transphobic, and bi lesbians deserve better than to be the next target of knee-jerk identity policing discourse
sending love to each and every one of you
you belong in this community no matter what. we love you ❤️
(BiLesbianRights on twitter)
if you are bi lesbian you are WONDERFUL ♡♡♡♡♡
someone can:
identify wholly or partially as a woman
be attracted to women and/or nonbinary people who do not identify with either the male or transmasc labels
feel no attraction to men or transmasculine nonbinary people whatsoever
believe they are attracted to men for a long time, only to discover they’re not
so, does that automatically make them a lesbian? nope!
someone can have the exact same life experiences as lesbians down to every last detail, and choose to identify as a queer woman, or simply not pick a label at all, and that is O.K.
I’m a lesbian and I’m telling you that you do not have internalized lesbophobia if you can relate to lesbians, but don’t think the lesbian label is right for you. like clothes that are comfortable but not your style, just because a label fits you doesn’t mean you have to wear it.
and guess what? it’s okay if it turns out you are one! if you change your mind someday, and decide to use the lesbian label, we are here to welcome you with open arms.
the moral of the story is, don’t push labels on people just because you’re scared it’ll take them longer to question. in fact, by forcing labels on people, you’re only lengthening a very painful, delicate part of the questioning process.
I’m sorry if your internalized lesbophobia made you shrink back from the lesbian label and grab onto the wrong labels for you as a way to hide from yourself, but please don’t make assumptions about how other people identify.
bisexual lesbians are:
wlw/sapphics who (willingfly identify as such and) are attracted to a minimum of 2 genders, neither of the genders in question including men
wlw/sapphics who (willingfly identify as such and) are not asexual or aromantic, but feel the split attraction model describes them best
wlw/sapphics who (willingfly identify as such and) claim the rights to both the bi and lesbian labels, given that before there was a word for bisexuality, all wlw/sapphics were referred to as “lesbians”, using it as an umbrella term
wlw/sapphics who (willingfly identify as such and) know that the reason all of us–who are not exclusively attracted to women and “non male aligned” nonbinary people–were excluded from the lesbian label in the first place because of the political lesbianism, and continue to be excluded because bisexual, pansexual, and polysexual women are seen as inherently privileged over lesbians (read: gold star lesbians) due to the assumption that they are attracted to men
bisexual lesbians are NOT:
lesbophobic bisexuals
biphobic lesbians
erasing the existence and representation of lesbians and bisexuals by existing
responsible for the actions of shitty cishet men who think they are entitled to noncishet women’s bodies
ahistorical
6. transmisogynistic people who think they’re bi because they’re attracted to both trans women and cis women
7. bisexuals who want to appropriate lesbian culture
What do you think of the bi lesbian discourse? I kinda wanna dm u abt it cause there isn't enough characters here to fully express what I think about it.
concidering I am a bi lesbian I am in full support of bi lesbians.
as for my personal thoughts, it’s exhausting and frustrating–mostly because a) the majority of people complaining about bi lesbians are not women or even lesbians/sapphic and b) the whole discourse is lathered with biphobia and lesbian separatist rethoric
feel free to dm me about it if you’d like!

I wish there was more recognition, love, and respect for the overlap between bi and lesbian. I wish the people who fit both identities were treated with respect rather than disdain. Because honestly, it’s what made me so confused for so so long on which I was, before I realized I am lesbian.
The overlap between bi and lesbian is so often villainized, if not just completely ignored. The two identities are pitted against each other constantly, by lesbians and bi people alike. It’s so harmful, and frankly it’s ridiculous. People too often act as if there can be no similarities, no way to be both. You are only lesbian, or only bi. No grey area exists to them. To them, that grey area is biphobic and lesbophobic.
But the grey between the two is there. And it’s okay if you live in that grey area. Your identity is beautiful.
people were angry when we said lesbians can be attracted to nonbinary people and not just women. they were wrong.
people were angry when we said bisexuals don’t have to be attracted to both or even either of the binary genders, and can just be attracted to a handful of nonbinary genders. they were wrong, too.
now, people are angry that we’re saying the ‘lesbian’ and ‘bisexual’ labels aren’t mutually exclusive, nor are any lgbtq+ labels as clear cut or strictly defined as they might seem. and guess what? they’re still wrong.
it takes time for people to learn, especially when their anger stems from a long history of unjustified erasure and pain, as well as fear that accepting new identities that don’t make sense to them will result in more pain and erasure.
one day, people will realize there are better things to worry about than people who use two labels that were never really mutually exclusive in the first place.
I promise ❤️
super shoutout to each and every one of us in our community whose identities and experiences are seemingly conflicting to others at first glance! whether you’re an oriented aroace, or a bi lesbian, or any other combination of identities and experiences that are misconstrued and seemingly contradictory!
your identities and experiences are so wonderful and amazing and good! how easily understood your identity is to others does not dictate its validity or legitimacy! you are allowed to identify with labels in ways that make sense to you! regardless of how other people perceive you!
you are every bit as deserving of love, respect, and support for your identity as anyone else! sending lots of love to each and every single one of you!
Since I don’t see much positivity for it:
I love bisexual women who are attracted exclusively to a binary gender and nonbinary people!
Bisexual women who are attracted to women and nonbinary people? You are bisexual and you belong with that label! I know it can be hard when many people assume that because you identify as bisexual, you must be attracted to men, but remember that your bisexuality is real and beautiful!
Bisexual women who are attracted to men and nonbinary people? You are bisexual and are not ‘basically straight’! Bisexuals who are attracted to women already get crap for not being ‘queer enough’, so I can’t imagine how hard it is if you aren’t attracted to women. But you still belong in this community, and your bisexuality is real and beautiful!
Bisexuality is defined as ‘attraction to two or more genders’. You don’t have to be attracted to both binary genders to fit that definition! You are all bisexual, radiant and loved in this community, just the way you are!
Shout out to the people whose experience of being bi doesn’t fit the more commonly represented version.
That means:
Bi women who are attracted to women and enbies but not men? I see you.
Bi women who are attracted to men and enbies but not women? I used to identify as one of you, I see you.
Bi enbies who are attracted to women and enbies but not men? I see you.
Bi enbies who are attracted to men and enbies but not women? I see you.
Bi men who are attracted to men and enbies but not women? I see you.
Bi men who are attracted to women and enbies but not men? I see you.
Bi people who use both bi and pan? I see you.
Bi people who use a different definition of bi then other people tell them to, whether it be “all genders,” “two or more genders,” “most genders,” etc? I see you.
Bi people who use biromantic but not bisexual to describe themselves? I see you.
Bi people who use bisexual to describe themselves but not biromantic? I see you.
Bi people who use “bi” as well as another term, be it “ace,” “aro,” “gay,” “queer,” “lesbian,” etc? I see you.
You’re all amazing. ❤️❤️❤️ Sending you all the love.
