The Lions personalities reflect those of their Paladins, sure, but what if the similarities do not end on just that?
And I am not only talking about their elements, though there are lots of symbolism their too, but for now, let’s start with something simple, like- the places they were hidden in.
Blue, in the cave, surrounded by silence and water, safe. Alone. Lance may be from a big family, but that does not mean he does not know what it is like to feel lonely, opposite of that, actually. There is always someone you need to keep an eye on, someone to worry about, something that needs to be done - and when you are older than others, you try not to disturb your family, they always have other worries. Lance’s people skills and his behavior lets out the fact, that there were not many people who paid him enough attention and scratch his flatly made facade to see what person he really is. My guess Lance is used to be on his own, though it is nice when someone is willing to be around. And while he might have been lonely, home is home, and no place feels safer than that. But sometimes you need to move on (and Blue definitely gets that).
The next one is Green, hidden in the roots in the middle of beautiful, magical forest. Pidge’s family took care of them, protected them from the world, as cruel and cold as it could be. They were raised and cherished, the youngest child, a prodigy, a wonder - Pidge was loved and kept in their small beautiful world, until everything changed in a matter of moment. And as for here, I think, Pidge was the one to tell their lion that it is okay to break some roots and branches, because you can’t stay in the cage, as wonderful and warm and cozy as it might be, when your family needs you.
Yellow was pretty hard to get to - if Blue just needed Lance to touch it’s symbols, to welcome them in his shelter with a floor crushing under everyone’s feet, Hunk had to drill his way through the wall to find Yellow. Good thing Galra provided all the tech needed for that task. Yellow was hiding deep underground, in extremely secure place - like Hunk was trying to stay in his comfort zone, refusing to accept changes and embrace them. It’s not like he has ever wanted to leave Earth at all, he was good on the ground he was standing for years, not making dangerous moves, not doing anything that would crush his routine and shake his entire soul. But he is braver than he thinks he is, and Yellow might have been hard to found, but he’ll be there for a friend, even if it means stepping away from a familiar safety. Hunk might have tried to avoid those lasers, but Yellow showed him that he does not need to fear. Everything comes simpler when it’s not yours but friend’s life to defend.
We don’t know much about the whereabouts of Red before Galra captured her and for how long they had her. What we know is that she spent some time in a place that she had no intention to be in the first place, restricted and pressured. I won’t include the whole “Keith is Galra” theory going around (though it will fit perfectly), but the think is, Keith had his home, before he was orphaned, and I don’t think Garrison was his dream, most likely it had something to do with his background, or his foster family insisting on that, or (in the worst case) people from Government just sending him in Garrison right after he lost his family because his family was connected to Garrison somehow. All I am saying is that they were trying to make Keith in a quiet and obedient weapon because of his skills, he was probably practically imprisoned in there until he became legal. Forced to do things he did not want to. And he fought for his freedom, doing something that nobody could close their eyes on, impulsive and unpredictable. He blindly jumped in the unknown future - and open space - and reminded Red that no one can take away your fire. And it is okay to make your own decisions.
As for the Black, well, that one will be pretty short. As Black, Shiro is only there when others need him. He is lost when nobody is around. He needs them. They are his purpose.
