ok so. hello. intro post. i want everyone to understand that I HAVE NOT PLAYED THIS GAME YET, but this WORM OF AN ANDROID has buried himself in the deep depths of my mind. and heart. i fear that once i download the feared (and massive-file-sized) “zenless zone zero” i will lose myself completely, so stay tuned for when that happens.

for now though i ASSURE YOU that i HAVE INTERACTED with his source material (i have viewed Everything: music videos, promo videos, screenshot comps & my friend(s) playing the Actual Game irl). but until i actually play it for myself i will Not make any character analysis writeups, and instead will merely be insanityposting about his metal waist.

I feel like Billy is either truly One-Of-A-Kind, and there are very few spare parts and components left from his being found, or he is one of THOUSANDS, a drop in the bucket that got lucky and condensated in this new world.

It's like-

Soldier 0 Anby? First of Twelve (That we know of) though it's more likely the first success of Twelve considerations.

Qingyi? Labelled as 01, implying, like Anby, a series of her kind, or the start of a series.

Billy doesn't have that as far as I'm aware, and I feel like that implies that he did get Lucky and survive whatever fate has befallen his other units.

You wouldn't say it's "M1 Abrhams tank #1469" or whatever. That's what Billy feels like.

Kinda like Chappie? Unit made for Combat, something went wrong, got spared by pure happenstance?

Because he had a spare arm. That's not something you just have one you, and I feel like we should have seen or heard about other Units like him if there were others up and about, because he's fairly recognizable.

There's evidence for both I feel. Elfy and Old Duyi feel like one of a kind, but we know there are many, many Tin Masters, Autonomous Support Sweepers, the 747 bangboo.

It's just - I want to know more about where and why and how and for what with Billy. He feels so important and also like there's nothing we really concretely know about his past that feels Vital to who he is today. The best we can speculate is that he got tired of being Scary and Dangerous and wanted to be "Cool" and have a life away from people preconception of who he is and what he does.

To add onto current Billy discourse, notice how he actively thinks of himself as subhuman?

Walks right into danger. Unfazed about injury to self. First to offer himself as sacrifice, tool and scapegoat. All kinds of doormat behavior. Yes, even the minor things. He openly admits that he simply follows what Nicole tells him to do 90% of the time. He doesn't want people relying on him, which his stupidity-obfuscating reinforces, and there might just be a reason.

That time he nonchalantly offered to give the proxies in to pubsec to boost his team's rates of survival? That is goal-prioritising machine thinking. He displays signs of morally conflicting result-based programming that in the case of all kinds of fictional AIs leads to DISASTER.

What if Billy purposefully practices making objectively bad stupid decisions to reaffirm his autonomy and to rely less on the same logic core that drove Old Billy. I swear there is something uniquely robotically mental illness about him.

That's why whenever there's a goal, he withdraws and follows somebody else. When the goal depends directly on him, he doesn't entirely trust himself, but does what he can do. He wears a big red "I'm the comic relief it's really not that deep!" badge to avoid responsibility. To be responsible for anything cruicial. Do not give him control. Do not give him a goal. He will dampen his abilities and declaw himself if it means everyone else is staying out of harm. The law he was taught to follow is flawed. The law his thinking depends on is also flawed. Lawlessness drives him into lawless behavior.

To the anon who also pulled Lighter because of Billy for his lore, same! And I pulled Caesar because of the fact she’s in his lore too.

Billy is basically the reason the Sons of Calydon are my second favorite faction after the Cunning Hares. I love Billy and I wanted to know more about him so I pulled for Caesar and Lighter. And guess what? Lighter is my most used Fire Agent ever! He was a great investment even if he was only for the lore. My fire and ice teams love him. Same with Caesar and her shield. I might gotten her recently, but now I don’t have to fear much of losing hp with her in the roster.

If the devs make another character and they have lore with Billy, then they will be pulled immediately. I will farm those polychromes for every single character that has lore with Billy’s past. And considering how much I love using Lighter, I know they might make another amazing character. Whether or not they will make them A-rank or S-rank, I don’t care, they’re connected to Billy!

In reaction to the anons that talked about Billy being reduced to a comic relief character:

-1: I think many people have forgotten what the first thing Billy told us about himself was: he was found in ruins of the old civilization! Then he was bought by someone who used him for the purpose he was created for> as a weapon. I have the theory that it was what he experienced afterwards that "gave" him the ability to pass the forbidden fruit test ( maybe meeting Big Daddy and being treated like a person instead of a thing).

-2. I also think that Billy is hiding a lot of who/what he is from people. With scientists experimenting on people/clones it's not far fetched to think they would like to have a look at his memory board. He was created before the fall of old Eridu and possibly before/while the great wars which resulted in the appearance of the hollows. If he was never reset or formatted the amount of data he contains/the things he witnessed are invaluable for not only shady organizations but also the white star institute who works with the government. So hiding how old he actually IS, is probably also a form of self protection.

-3. Honestly... I think he looks at his life with the cunning hare's as his retirement. He's been through battle and is still capable of kicking butt. But he can also be more relaxed.

-4. Maybe the Billy we see now is the result of him developing a personality. He saw battle, he had a position that depended on him being taken serious and now he can be more expressive with who he is or wants to be.

honestly I think a lot about the first scene when the cunning hares were trapped in the hollow when bell and wise were getting hacked and how billy was the first one to be like “hey we could turn them in to get outta this mess just saying”

and then thinking about how overly friendly he can be towards the proxy,and im like I know a lot of that is genuine but man he really probably regrets even suggesting that ,definitely had a “why would I think that moment” to himself later and definitely another moment if the old billy peeking through

some more starlight knight related things i picture Billy doing, completely 120% level 1 canon extension headcanon:

His over-the-top body language is a compensation for his robotic inexpressiveness and lack of proper face. Saw the way his favourite guys in spandex suits emote by exagerrating, pantomiming and bobbing their heads to indicate emotion while speaking so he just went. That's mine now, I too am funny 8 AM hero time block character

And he also installed literal robot tear ducts into his eyes so he could cry heroically through the cracks of his helmet (face. Eyes) while lamenting the act of fighting as he's still doing so for the sake of humanity kamen rider style

His optical feed is permanently colored a consumer grade camera green filter like showa era toku. No explanation needed

Physically cannot react to surprising news other than gripping his head in distress and doing a big "EHHHHHH?!???"

Fears that his budget will be one day taken away by Nicole so he blows his payouts on starlight knight merch (totally worth it every time)

Physically restraining himself from fanboy wavelength interacting with that 8 yr old kid carrying SK toys because of the Nearby Mother

My billy fixation so bad it might even freak out the freakiest of freaks but i hope this is an okay enough space to ramble on about it here.

Billy is just the kind of personality i someday want to either meet, have, be friends with or fall in love with. My fixation so bad tho that its probably for the best he stays fictional.

All my pulls are saved for his s rank (coping yes but idc) skipping miyabi and the new chars for it too (no billy mention/involvement, automatic skip, did the same thing on the last 2 banners, also i dont rlly like the new banner characters thay much).

Literally pulled for lighter just to get more lore on billy (no regrets tho he's one of my best supports/stun agents haha+more billy lore to ponder on while i patiently wait for his s rank)

If hoyo butchers his s rank banner (makes it intentionally crappy, forgettable, the like etc.) i dont think ill ever see zzz the same again, i think i might even delete my account if that worse case scenario ever happens. And i'd rather not do that bc as much as i dont want to admit it at times the game's combat is fun, billy just makes me want to stay a lot more. Started the game bc of him and ending with him.

I hope and hope hard his s rank has an impactful and unforgettable story. I would rlly like for his story to have a pretty some big involvement on zzz's main storyline (like s-anby's did). Though i'm on the fence on hoyo's writing most of the time i do have some hope bc ill admit they cooked on the 1.4 story and did pretty well emotionally on rina's agent story. If his s rank story has much of the same impact i pray my wallet has enough for 2-3 copies for him and his wengine.

A backstory that'll give us an explanation to his behaviors, thoughts, why he is the way he is and the road that it took to get to who he is now. I'm not touching the skip dialogue button at all when his s-rank agent story gets released i'm committed to hearing everything there is about him when that day comes. Extra bonus if it gives some world building into how robots, intelligent constructs and ais are treated as a whole in zenless universe (but thats probably asking for too much from hoyo)

Sometimes when im down i just remember, ah yes billy kid. Guy doesnt even have a mouth to smile with but his eyes shaping into moons making it seem like he is is enough for me to just keep on going.

You ever wonder how old Billy even is or why he was in the Lost Tech Ruins?

Because I feel like Billy and Qingyi are tied for being the oldest Agents in the game because we know from Qingyi’s videos that she has ties to people from the Old Civilization and she acts like a grandma, and Billy himself has been stated to also have been created during the Old Civilization and some of his parts are different from the current ones found in New Eridu. Unless SEED is older, or they actually release one of the OG Voidhunters as a playable character, Billy and Qingyi are our oldest Agents as of now.

Though this is where it gets interesting because Billy was found in the Lost Tech Ruins far away from the city and it was by chance he got to become the Champion for both Caesar and her father because the Outer Ring isn’t as technologically advanced as the city. This is a huge mystery because why is there even a place like the Lost Tech Ruins and why was there a killing machine there? Like who even placed Billy there? And why? Billy has shown that he’s more than capable of doing mass destruction and his model is definitely built around combat, so why would anyone want to place such a high class weapon somewhere where no one wants to go unless they’re lost or desperate?

What did Billy do to deserve that type of fate?

I guess when they’ll release S-rank Billy, many answers will finally be revealed.

he may have ended up in the ruins bc of the classic a. running out of battery while on the way to who knows where b. he was from an ENTIRE unit of other constructs like him, was somehow deemed “malfunctioning”, and tossed away

either way (these ideas are only speculation but i have a feeling the truth would be on par in terms of severity) his past is defo very upsetting so no wonder why he doesn’t Talk About It

but him telling anby “maybe i should switch back to my old threads too” kinda implies he has Thought About It and maybe wants to settle something he couldn’t face prior (due to lack of confidence, self, etc).

i hope s rank billy is handled well and they don’t keep him as a joke by making him an “actual” starlight knight… billy you are so complex billy you deserve to be dissected with deep care and concern

Okay okay okay. Ultimate Billyposting Challenge: let's talk about his starlight knight obsession (big write incoming... because i have so many thoughts)

Do you think it's more of a super sentai or a kamen rider equivalent. My guess lies on an ungodly mix of both.

Billy is definitely both a "these characters are real in my head" and a "I know every little piece of obscure trivia about this" type of fan. The way he gushes about SK in canon borders on full unironic enjoyment that he takes very seriously. He'd be the type of guy to both know every special effect, acting and film error yet take the movie + series events as gospel truth. I can NOT see an inch of favourite media flaw criticism in this man im sorry.

Yeah... info about it is inconsistent so I guess it has a full length movie (that he prefers) and a series to be aired on TV. Bordering on unkillable and infinite. 350+ episodes, how?

He absolutely projects onto the characters, HARD. Fighting for the greater good against all odds of imminent destruction? Check.

Billy's sense of humour was absolutely RUINED by this show. Not like he had any in the first place (explanation incoming) but now his idea of funny is rooted deeply in slapstick, absurdist comedy and cartoony over-the-top..ness that's common in tokusatsu.

The reason starlight knight resonates so much with him has definitely got to be the deeply heroic determination nonsense, ultimate hopecore and the black-and-white morality. Made him take life less seriously and become a little more silly... for morale :3

Possible fixation backstory:

He came across a smuggled tape during his Calydon days, had an internal conflict about liking it, deemed it his guilty pleasure akin to Caesar's shoujo manga and never told anyone. I'm inhuman, I kill people, and I like this dorky kids' show? My life is screwed.

My headcanon is that he always put on some kind of immature facade on (cmon. Billy KID, cowboy name—for unsettling intimidation purposes) for his entire life and starlight knight became somewhat of a coping method for him.

Billy already had trouble connecting with people during his Calydon days and wanted to do some self-improvement for Big Daddy and Caesar's sake, so he wanted to start with his mindset, worldiew and sense of humour first—because it was morbid. Cmon, this guy KILLED PEOPLE!!!

Talking to Caesar as a person who was most untainted by the Outer Ring lawless cowboy life convinced him to become Better and adopt a more light-hearted way of thinking and learn to Care besides Survive. And oh boy did he have an emotional moment courtesy of starlight knight's story themes. From seeing a life he will never have on tape to instilling simple hope all because of some... stupid... show... (by rule of hyperfixation, it will get worse.)

SO yeah. Thank you for reading all this to the end. Imo noone gets a fixation This Bad without having it mean a lot to them so here's my two cents on the thing that colors Billy's entire personality.
