Would you change anything? If you could? Because, you… you had a choice. Me, I never did. You saw to that. And yet, here I am.

“Not too long. My companions and I are well travelled,” Amelie explained, finding no risk in her honesty. “We settled here just before the rebellion began. I wanted a safe haven for vampires.”
“There are a few, but they hold none of the overly eccentric Capitol traits that I find so irritating. And they certainly didn’t inherent that ghastly sense of fashion.” She smiled, but it didn’t reach her eyes. “Are you aiming to get somewhere with shower of compliments, Mr. Russo?”
“I guess being vampires, that makes sense.” He raised his eyebrows at the information, finding it quite amusing, considering. “Really? Well. How did the rest of the rubble get in?”
“Yeah, I doubt those types would have a great time amongst the heart of the people who destroyed their way of life. But fair’s only fair, hey?” Billy’s smirk lessened at the rejection, but he didn’t take it to heart. He enjoyed the chase of someone playing hard to get, which is how he usually took it. “Nah, not really. It’s not about the aim for me. More about the journey. Besides, I meant what I said. You can take it or leave it, that’s entirely up to you.”
“I can imagine so.” Amelie smiled, shaking his hand firmly with her own. It was nice to be introduced formally, traditionally. Billy had already made a good impression on her. “Amelie Hampton. Founder of Alexandria.”
“Comparing me to anyone from the Capitol will do you no favours,” she pointed out with a raised eyebrow. “But yes, I am a vampire.”
His eyebrows raised after their handshake, impressed. “Isn’t that quite the title. I wish I had one just as impressive. How long has this town been around for?”
“Noted, again. My apologies,” he held up a hand in surrender, polite smile returning. “I thought we had a few ex-Capitolites still among us. Was I misinformed?” Billy had done his fair share of research before settling here. It seemed particularly diverse. “And a gorgeous one, at that.”
“Keep it up. Perhaps flattery will get you somewhere.”
“I’m far older than twenty five. Hasn’t anyone ever informed you that looks can be deceiving?”
“It has before,” he smirked, before an extending a hand in greeting. “I’ve found that manners can also do wonders. I’m Billy Russo. A pleasure, Miss - ?”
His lips twitched at her comment, reflecting on his own behaviour for a moment before playing along. “Noted. A vampire, then? Or maybe just some Capitol-grade surgery? Either way, I’m impressed.”
“I’m glad to see the renovations the new residents have made to Alexandria. My old friends and I appreciate it dearly, it’s what we envisioned it to become. We didn’t have the resources, of course…”
“It’s always nice to give the dying a second life.” Billy raised his eyebrows. “But ‘old friends’? You don’t look a day over twenty-five.”
