The golden haired man noted that she sniffed at him instead of shaking his hand, shivering slightly from the feeling before she nodded and lowered her hands from the ring around her neck. He had a look of concern on his face before she spoke and nodded in return. “You’re welcome Franae, and don’t worry, I won’t let them catch you.”
He promised her that truthfully as he gently reached to her neck and lightly touched the red ring with the tip of his middle finger. A first aid kit floated in from the bathroom towards them, the disinfectant and bandages already out and ready to be used. “I’ll protect you.” His words were soft, soothing, caring as he moved closer to see the full extent of the ring’s damage. “Sit down on the couch, better lighting.”
Instinctively she would draw back at the touch with a small hiss, cut off part way through as she consciously reminded herself that he was helping. The first aid kit floating in, however, had her full attention, though his words seemed genuine and soothing enough. Magic? It did not smell like magic. Protect. Help. She knew the meanings of the words, though she had not received them towards herself. She moved to the area as instructed.
"Why help?" it would only cause him problems later, she was sure. The criminals after her would not hesitate to harm him. Even herself, if she were in her true form, humanity was little more than meat to a dragon. So why would he help her? When the rest of his kind had seen fit to use her? She knew hearts. His intentions were pure. Why?
