joel miller is one of the most morally complex characters i've seen written into recent media of any kind. his moral compass seems to lean towards selflessness when he thinks he has someone to live for but he leans into destructive decision making when he feels he has nothing to lose.

he is left to decide on his own whether to give the world a chance at a cure or to save this girl who is basically his daughter from being killed. in joel's mind, sometimes the macrocosm of the "bigger picture" blurs with the microcosm of his own world. by the end of tlou, ellie has become his world and he would rather live a life of danger with her than to lose her at the chance that there might be a cure.

he is such an interesting philosophical complex that feels so selfless yet anti-utilitarian at the same time. what A MAN.
