Urania fulgens

From the uraniidae family. They have a wingspan of 70-85 mm. They tend to inhabit tropical environments. It is found in Central and South America.

Your friend, who I will ID for fun, is very beautiful and shiny. She’s a female thick-legged flower beetle, Oedemera nobilis. Their common name is because the males never skip leg day at the bug gym:

Bug of the Day

Saw this beautiful azalea sphinx (Darapsa choerilus) at the light last night. I always forget it is the azalea sphinx - because of the specific epithet, and the beautiful reddish tones on this moth, my brain always thinks "cherry sphinx." But this moth does not eat cherry, and "choerilus" does NOT have anything to do with cherry - it is actually a reference to the Greek poet Choerilus.

I scoop moths out of awkward corners in the trap using a little jar - I don't want to mess up their delicate wings by trying to pick them up with my fingers. Their wing scales come off so easily, and will stick to the oils in my skin. This one had apparently got comfy in the jar and didn't wanna go home though 😂🤷

This moth eats a type of wild clematis that (here in the UK at least) is called traveller's joy in summer and old man's beard in autumn, because of its grey fluffy seed heads. If you have a garden and this plant finds its way in, pls leave some for the moths! Thank you from the Moth Promotional Board ✨🦋✨
