It had been forever since Quinn had gotten an actual break. No schedule planning, writing, re-writing, or vocal practice. Their paranoia had finally died down enough for them to leave the house, too! Things had actually begun to pick up outside the usual monotony.

Walking into the bookstore, they had nothing but the intention to browse around, and maybe buy something. While Quinn wasn’t inherently picky about which books they read, siphoning through them all could get overwhelming. It was more likely they would get bored before making any decisions. Maybe there would be somebody to talk to, even just to change things up. Thankfully, traveling so far out gave the benefit of not having whispering fans following their tail, or taking random pictures nearly as often.

Wow, they were certainly different from other people Eive had met before. She nodded. "Sure!"

She moved past them until she reached one of the shelves. "Here. Historical fiction."-she pointed at it. Her top eye set focused on a book about music that happened to also be around, though her attention remained on them. "I'm Eive, by the way."

They got closer to the spot Eive stoo, tail uncurled, and reached towards one of the books to bring it down.

Their gaze snaps from the book to Eive, "I'm Quinn." They speak politely, quietly hoping she doesn't know who they are. Anonymity would be nice for once.

"You come here often? You know your way around the place, clearly."

// Tanner is gentle with Quinn's hand, being careful of the claws. "Sushi's my favorite. It's a nice treat every once in a while. I highly recommend the unagi bowl. Eel." He's a little flustered himself, but there's no blush in his cheeks. He remains cool and collected, vital to his line of work.

The claws on their other hand click together, arm having been brought up and back again. Maybe this wouldn't be miserable. Sure, they were going in public, but at least there was food involved.

It took a while to actually find somewhere to hide the ship, and spot a place to eat. Quinn, as usual, went out in their usual 'I'm desperate for you to ignore me' garb, which included a thin, dark cloak, baggy shirt, and long pants that covered their digitigrade legs. (It was a nightmare finding shoes that fit.)

Standing outside the establishment, Quinn was no longer holding Tanner's hand. "This seems to be it."

"'I could be your submissive' this, 'I want a dom like you' that." They recite mockingly, only for their voice and face to suddenly turn deadpan, "You would not survive..."

Name: Jessica Terrance

Current Age: 28

Pronouns: She/her

Appearance: Jessica is a 5’3” tall human woman with medium-long black hair, brown eyes, and pale skin.

Unique/Other Features: While her mutations do not appear as obvious as Quinn’s, her oval-shaped pupils are something they both have in common. Otherwise, everything appears as normal. When using her mutated abilities, long, thick, wire-like, organic “cords” sprout from her body wherever she pleases. These “cords” posses a shocking range. Surrounding the area of any sprouted cord is an odd gray color, reminiscent of Quinn’s current skin tone.

Personality: Jessica is witty, enough so to keep up with Quinn, at least most of the time. She’s very social, and in contrast to their Progenitor, is friendly and tolerant. While easily flustered (almost offended) if asked about her own personal matters, she’s beyond willing to listen to her friends, with very few conversational limits. “TMI” does not exist in her world.

Jessica certainly has a way with words, as is one of the reasons to her place as Diplomat and Second in Command on the Hive Mother.

Original Reality (canon to all timelines/AUs): Humanity has had no contact with any alien species, and have instead focused their efforts to consolidate power mostly in technological engineering, especially in physics, quick transportation (teleportation), and occasional off-Earth mining. Some scientific explorations have had unforeseen results, directly or otherwise (such as outer-reality contact.)

Other Fun Facts:

- She was, at one point, an acrobat artist.

- Jessica’s much faster on the ground than Quinn is, in part due to her lacking a tail, which weighs them down when not in flight. Also in part due to her biomechanical muscle, which similarly to them, is weaved into her natural musculature.

- Possesses a small rose ankle tattoo that she got when she was 22, and regrets it deeply now.

It was a fine morning, and it had been a while since Eive had gone out to relax instead of for work reasons. When she saw the bookstore, she decided she'd enter to check what was new. It was then that she noticed someone new at the shop.

She hesitated for a few moments before approaching Quinn. "Hi there."-she smiled. "I'm not a shopkeeper, but I might be able to point you in the right direction, if you're looking for something in particular." It seemed like she either hadn't recognized Quinn or didn't know about her.

Quinn's head snapped up from the shelf they were staring at, then turned to face the stranger, pupils changing to become smaller after being blown up.

A wholly neutral look envelops their face as she talks, and as she presents her helping offer, their tail twitching in the spiral-shape it found itself in moments before the approach.

They responded in just as neutral of a tone, "Historical fiction? Maybe something a bit more..." A brief millisecond of pause stopped them as they thought, "light hearted?"

"What? You don't remember what they look like?!" A cruel laugh rings, almost exhaustedly strained, "Just- make something up!

"I never know what I want. But I know exactly what I don't want; what I'll slash your eyes out for."

The Hive's New Years party had been... shockingly tame. Which was a good thing, by Quinn's standards. It was still utterly exhausting, though; social keeping was certainly more up Jessica's alley.

Thankfully no one tried anything stupid, like Quinn feared, such as sneaking in fireworks to light on the ship. Hive Mother likely would have been furious. There were few shenanigans Hive members could pull that would make her genuinely angry, but it was best to avoid upsetting her as a whole. It was always a pain, getting her to settle down.

The entire idea of having a New Years party seemed silly in the first place, but they understood it had its' place, Jessica more so. Even if they weren't on Earth's soil, it was important to connect with what they had. Jessica was quite happy about Quinn's lack of complaining after the fact, dare she think they actually had a good time.

They'd most certainly do it again next year.

Hive role: Quinn, commonly referred to as “The Progenitor”, is the both maker and keeper of the living ship formally christened “The Hive Mother.” Similarly to Quinn, the ship shifts, mutates and transmutates as need be to ensure the well-being of all Hive members. Using a process called Transference, they manage resources, aid in long-distance travel, and more. Few details are known of their role, as their Transference Chamber is exclusive to Quinn alone. One thing is for sure, however; nothing escapes their gaze.
