If you EVER think Anthony Head is anything less than an angel then you’d best remember that I have always been a huge fan of his and we’ve always had a little contact over the years and he heard I’d come out as Trans and was having a hard time and that I was kind of sad that the photos I had from conventions with him were of me with long hair and no binder and they were all signed to “Sarah” and so he invited me to spend the day with him at his farm and he picked me up from the station and we just hung out and had lunch and he insisted on paying and took loads of photos and had them printed on photo paper the same day so he could sign them to Jay, along with other photos of him as Giles and Uther and he literally spent five hours chatting with me and got all of the pronoun stuff right every time and then he dropped me off at the station, gave me a final massive hug, waved me through the ticket barrier and insisted I message him when I got home so he knew I got back safe. (More HERE)
With Anthony Stewart Head passing away, worth remembering one of my favorite stories about him.
Deep Space Nine wins the award for "The Most Star Trek of the Star Treks", solely because it mastered TOS' trademark tonal whiplash in ways yet unsurpassed by its sibling series. You watch 3 or 4 episodes in a row that are like
and after all the complex thoughts and emotions those episodes put you through you think "damn this is such a good show," and then the next episode is like
and after all that dumb bullshit you think "gahd DAMN this is SUCH a good show!!!"
a friend of mine in star trek shitposting made this but isn't on the hellsite and, when I asked, she said I could post it here the endorsement was contingent on me including my reply to her excellent shitpost:
Bit of my old OC

There are a lot of philosophical concepts that I wish were in more common parlance, but the one I wish people broadly understood most is 'merely verbal dispute'.
care to help me add it to my parlance?
So, not infrequently in philosophy you'll have a debate with someone, go back and forth for hours, and eventually realize... you don't actually disagree on any point other than the definition of a word or two. Your actual positions are the same, you're just calling them something different. You see this a lot in some of the slipperier areas of metaphysics, like in debates over free will. But it's everywhere.
Once you get to that point in the debate, there's simply no reason to continue. You're not going to be able to logically compell someone to use different words, it'd be pretty pointless to even try, and there's nothing else at stake. For a philosopher, realizing that you're in a merely verbal dispute is realizing that you're arguing about nothing, and thus, that it's time for the debate to end.

On April 8 we celebrate the death of Margaret Thatcher, and remember all the lives she destroyed.
Happy Margaret Thatcher Death Day to all who celebrate!
Listen, I'm having fun playing with the ultra patriotic voice, but after a couple years in blue-collar landscaping jobs, you really do need to phrase things like that.
"I'm pretty sure that fella ain't here legally."
"Well, that ain't your business Chip, it's his."
They hate being preached to. If you pull out words like 'gender wage gap' they'll tell you you're brainwashed by the far left media.
"He's one of them transgenders."
"He got freedoms too, Jimmy."
Also, please understand that SO often the real issue these people have is that they just want to say something inappropriate. They don't like being told they can't say "fag", so they'd say it for a reaction, just like a teenager would.
Shut down the conversation without reacting.
"His dick, not mine" will get you much further to shutting that guy down than "well it's really inappropriate to call someone a slur while I'm the job site".
And that's the point. To shut them up. To make them quit saying shit like that. The first one makes him seem kinda weird for caring about what that guy does with his dick. The second one gives him something to fight against and make a big deal about.
code-switching matters for communicating across cultures of all varieties
Cannot overstate how many flavours of bullshit disguised as political opinion can be shut down by “none of my business” or “don’t be rude”

Cancelled after two seasons, the second of which will end on a cliffhanger. Was ‘the first gay Klingon’ too woke for Paramount’s new owners, or was it the idea that the government/military isn’t always right?
Honestly, I think a variety of groups/PTBs felt threatened by the very Roddenberry Andromeda theme of rebuilding civilization from the barbarians of a social collapse that Starfleet Academy embodied.
Paramount can kiss my whole ass with this cancellation. I’m not fucking surprised considering the merger but man what a fucking blow. Starfleet Academy very quickly became one of my favorite series of new trek. Fuck off paramount, and during the 60th celebration too. I’m so mad rn
Nahla Ake swiftly became my favorite captain, right next to Janeway. This whole series was so fucking good
I wanted to see those cadets grow more, become officers, and move to rebuild after the burn. The fucking potential, man.
