Painted this little llama yesterday using gouache and colored pencils! Really happy with how it turned out, even though I found using gouache to be a bit frustrating (I'm just so used to watercolors!) The idea was inspired by @alexandradikaia 's Magic Creatures Creative Challenge. I really love the challenge and I'm going to see how far I can get through. My prompt was "Emerald Llama." The beautiful, soft glow beckoned her. She had become so exhausted and her body yearned for rest. But as she drew nearer to that iridescent essence, she felt a renewed beat of life within her heart. With a final kick of her feet, she pushed her way through the thick water towards it, and it welcomed her warmly. The shadows hovered at the light's edge, eyes vigilant and ever so patient. I recently watched Song of the Sea and felt so inspired! I wanted to create a feeling of magic and mystery, and came upon this little idea. I tried some color variations, but I felt that this version did the best to create that ominous feeling I was looking for. What do you think happens next in this story?

A typical evening in for me after a long day of work, when I finally get a moment of silence and not needing to think. A time when I get to lie down, read some articles and hang out with my cat. I believe it must be Bosley's favorite time of day too. This image actually took me a lot longer than I thought it would, and I really struggled with trying to get the pose right. I wanted to cut out all the mess ups I made, but I decided to show them anyway. The sketches actually took as long as the final piece once I got into the swing of things. I think when we see other artists' work, or at least when I do, I always think, "Wow it's so perfect!" But we rarely think about the amount of time and thought that goes into getting that final image. I really wanted to cut out all the mess ups and just forget about all the struggles and sketches I went through, but I decided to show it anyway. Even though I would rather hide the "mess-ups" so my process looks more "perfect" - in reality, it just wasn't so and those sketches is what got me to this final image.
