Love it when a borrower/tiny comes running to a human because they just ran into a spider etc and are terrified and grossed out and just NEED someone to get rid of it and the human uses the paper-over-cup method to avoid scaring the tiny because they know how their perspective would shift if they saw this giant person kill something thatâs the same size/even smaller than they are. bonus points if the human never ever does this and is inconvenienced by it, killing it would be so much easier, thatâs what theyâre used to, they actually get really squirmy at the fact that the bug is still alive under the cup as they carry it out, but itâs all worth it when they come back inside and see a little glimmer in the tinyâs eyes that signals how grateful they are for the gesture.

I love scenarios where the giant has to earn a tinyâs trust, those are fantastic.
I also love scenarios where a tiny is forced to trust a giant because thereâs either a threat thatâs far more dangerous than the giant, or the tiny is simply more afraid of something else than they are of the giant.
The giant, whoâd been hard at work trying to coax the tiny into their hands, now feels a scrambling of limbs as the tiny immediately climbs into their hands without a second thought when that threat presents itself.
The giant, who might have originally celebrated such a moment, now finds themselves trying to comfort a still terrified tiny while protecting them from any threats, perceived or otherwise.
When the other threat is gone, is the tiny now less scared of the giant, who has just proven that they would protect the tiny? Or does their fear of the giant move right back in, leaving the giant holding a tiny that is terrified of them again?
Honestly, g/t as a symbolism for the nervousness/terror that can come with professing your feelings for someone.
Theyâre a giant. Grande in every possible way. Whenever you look at them your heart flutters. You hide away because youâre afraid of what theyâll do to you when they catch you, afraid that when it happens, youâll never be able to let go.
Despite how much you gaze upon them every single day, they donât know youâre there. Going upon their own mundanity of life while you sit there trying to figure out how to say hello, or how to introduce yourself without freaking them out and locking away the chance of you two ever being something.
Every time they speak their words echo within your mind, loud, powerful, and meaningful. Their entire form takes up your gaze, and hands you so eagerly want to hold you lay at their side empty - if only you were there.
And when they do find you, when you canât evade them any longer⊠Who knows what will happen.
I found these in a list of my old AU story ideas (there is SO much G/t in these notes lol I just never got around to writing them. Free for use, for original stories, fanworks, or otherwise!):
Cinderella-esque story but itâs a borrower who shrinks back at midnight
G/t AU where tiny Character A has or gains powers that make them bigger, but itâs hard to hang onto that form. (They get in deeper than they meant to and now have to hide it from their new big friendsâŠwhether those friends are actually aware of this shifting or not.)
Based off the previous one, but itâs a different size dynamic. Character A is human-sized (or a giant) already and gets smaller to hang out with smaller new friends.
Tiny (who probably was not always tiny) trapped in an object due to a curse. A necklace, lantern, crystal ball, etc. you could also go â2Dâ with it (trapped in a book or mirror) but this kind of loses the tangible G/t aspect for me.
Rewatching ratatouille and just, ugh. Little me knew exactly what she wanted. This is literally perfect. Perfect g/t set up. So borrower-esque. Remyâs dad constantly telling him to stay away from humans. The arguments about them stealing food. Remy thinking humans are beautiful and can create. Every single physical interaction. How big the world is to Remy. The fear. The Jar. The friendship. Itâs so. Perfect. Itâs making me emotional how good it is for g/t.
write that g/t fanfic. write it now. âbut spaci,â you say, âiâm the only one who likes this character AND likes g/tâ. listen. you are the only one right now. give it two, five, however many years. some gt fan will fall in love with your blorbo and google â(blorbo) g/tâ. and they will find your fanfic. and it will be like finding water in the desert to them. you will be an angel to them. write the fanfic. for yourself, and for the poor guy in the future scrambling for whatever content they can get. you can save them. you can literally save them.
Technicalities in G/t That are Ignored in Order to Keep the Whimsyâąïž
Other than the square cube law and the lack of physical possibility of it all, Iâm talking about common tropes that are known and loved in g/t that have downsides if we arenât pretending the giants/tinies are magically perfect etc. (ex Iâm not going to say anything like âwell technically a giant wouldnât even be able to hear a tinyâ because thatâs not fun. Lots of these are fun I promise.)
Disclaimers!!! This is NOT to say I donât love all these tropes. I adore them so much, and you best bet Iâm ignoring any technicalities if Iâm thinking up a prompt. This is purely something that came to mind/I think is interesting, not here to yuck anyoneâs yum!
âââ
A lot of these are straight up unsolvable icky realities that I donât think need to be addressed, but others I could totally see as cool plot points/tasks for giants and tinies to figure out! I love when we work around this stuff in g/t.
âââ
(I will be working on my g/t cinematography post that Iâve been alluding to soon, so if you hate this, donât worryâ whimsy is still my top priority.)
A SUPER basic one: The whole concept of sleepy giants. I know we all love it, I adore it, but I just canât sleep flat on my back the whole night. I think itâs more realistic for tinies to be on the pillow or curled up by the crook of the giantâs neck or under their hand while theyâre on their side, instead. Or maybe the giant lets the tiny fall asleep on their chest first and then relocates them to the pillow so thereâs less roll-over risk.
Adding onto that, assuming every giant is gonna have lovely coffee/minty breath. Breaths ruffling the tinyâs hair, etc, I love it, but morning breath from a giant would SUCK. Same thing with drool, I think itâs endearing if a giant drools a bit on their tiny while asleep and the tiny just takes it because they love them so much, but drool doesnât SMELL good. The physical sensation is probably way less easy to pass off as cute, too.
The possibility that a giant has cracked lips?? That not every kiss is going to be plush and soft and gentle? I hate that one but I think about it every once in a while.
The feeling of fingerprints and the grooves of the hand, hands in general. Skin barriers are way thicker from the perspective of a tiny so a hand would probably be more dense/rough than soft and squishy from most giants.
The creepy-crawly feeling that holding a tiny would come with. If youâve ever held a bird or chicken or even a little cat etc, youâd know that the heartbeat of a tiny little creature is a tactile jump scare, theyâre so fast and the pulse/breathing can be felt EVERYWHERE in the body, but clearly more prominent in their core and it just gives you the squirmies for sure. I almost dropped a chick when I held one for the first time, it freaked me out that much.
Tiny limbs. Little fingers and legs and arms all over you when youâre not anticipating it, thatâs got to be terrifying. I understand the tiny-phobic giants and find it SO funny when writers consider them. Youâd get used to it eventually, but at first itâs sensory overwhelm for sure. You ALWAYS feel like theyâre about to fall if they move, but somehow they donât.
Sitting on a giantâs head ratatouille style. Unless theyâve just showered, the oil?? Youâd be greasy after five minutes tangled up there.
Just how big and broad a giantâs chest is and how difficult it would be to actually crawl across it. Deep breathing, lungs contracting and expanding, a tiny probably wouldnât be able to stand up at all. Itâs like being on those unreasonably big bouncy castles/being on a trampoline while everyone else is still jumping on it but youâre knocked over. That level of helplessness and exhilaration except youâre not in any danger. You just literally canât stand up, you HAVE to crawl.
A tiny being carried for the first time has a 99% chance of throwing up. All those shifts in gravity, the giant probably isnât walking at a constant speed so the tiny is going to be jostled back and forth in their palm, launched forward when the giant pauses etc. Hanging onto fingers is a must if you wanna sit up right.
Depending on how tiny a tiny is, shoulders are difficult modes of transportation. Like, weâve got to have a shirt or hoodie collar for support, or at least be hanging on to the neck. I see that a lot, which I love, but sometimes I see one-inch tall tinies just sitting on a shoulder and Iâm taken out of it because thereâs no way they arenât falling. Unless theyâre a fairy, maybe! Wing support as a safety net.
Being carried around in a backpack sounds like a literal nightmare. Like, terrifying. Not being able to see and not knowing what else is inside the backpack with them? Shivers.
Just how uncomfortable fabric in general would be for a tiny. Cotton would be thick, stitches are amplified so it would be like being rubbed up against a crochet piece in their perspective, which can get annoying after a while. And donât even get me STARTED on denim. Putting a tiny in a denim pocket has got to be abrasive for that little layer of skin.
Climbing up a giant arm/leg would be daunting because of the height, yes, but also that added constant heartbeat. Youâre climbing a mountain but the mountain has a pulse in every direction, you feel like youâre about to fall constantly.
Giants with STUBBLE! I know a lot of g/t authors who have addressed this (you know who you are and ily), but snuggling up against a face that hasnât been clean shaven isnât just going to tickle, itâs going to HURT. Probably leaves little scratches and redness on the tiny after, doesnât matter that theyâre having a good time. This gives opportunity for tinies to get super excited when their giant has just freshly shaved and I loveeeeee it.
Giants with nervous habits like bouncing their leg, drumming their fingers. Constant sensory overload for a tiny whoâs just trying to sit at their desk or on their knee/thigh.
Not having purchase when straddling a giantâs nose. Again, this kinda depends on the size of the tiny. But if theyâre somewhere BETWEEN ânot big enough to need something to hold onto because they can hold onto the nose bridgeâ and ânot small enough to need something to hold on to because they can reach up to the giantâs foreheadâ, the tiny has NOTHING to grab onto. Awkward scrambling and the urge to plant their hands on the sides but they just end up poking the giantâs eyes.
Current trope living rent free: giants pulling tinies apart from a fight. A pair of tinies going at it, hair pulling, clawing, cursing each other out, etc.
A giant mutual friend going âwoah woah woah,â and just plucking them off of each other while they thrash and kick in each hand.
Or even better, TWO giants pull them apart, one per tiny. One of the giants is scolding the tiny theyâre holding for being so reckless and unnecessarily violent. Has them plucked up by the back of the shirt and is scowling at them, dangled in front of their face.
The other giant is cradling their tiny like a limp ragdoll between their fingers and checking if theyâre okay, looming over them and wiping their frustrated tears.
