Crested Caracara being allopreened by two Black Vultures! This is such an interesting behavior and one that's typically one-way (preening by vultures to caracara). Here you can see the caracara either attempting to reciprocate but getting rebuffed by both vultures, or telling them to stop for now.

Word has been spreading that a new birdy friend will be joining the bird squad this Friday, and these three weren’t about to sit around waiting. So they’ve taken it upon themselves to head out into the woods and search for their new friend. They've already checked every branch, log, and leaf pile along the way. But so far… no sign of their mysterious new companion. They’ll just have to keep searching until Friday.

asked a german rp partner what the common chiffchaff was called in german, because in english chiffchaff is clearly from the song it sings, and in finnish it's called tiltaltti which is also from the song and to my delight

chiffchaff in german is called a zilpzalp. so, sensing a theme, i am now looking at wikipedia chiffchaff article in different languages

english: chiffchaff finnish: tiltaltti german: zilpzalp northern sami: skilkeskálka welsh: siff-saff irish: tiuf-teaf

and then in swedish it's just gransångare which with my extremely limited swedish is that. literally something-singer

i like when a piece of media says that an all-powerful character "sees humans as insects" because that really could mean a lot of things. maybe they view us as insignifigant and will squish us under their boot. maybe theyre actually studying and cataloguing us for their thesis paper. maybe theyre campaigning for human protection because we're an important part of their ecosystem. maybe they see a human and go "ew ew ewwwwww someone get the cup and get that FREAK out of my house." .
