I can't get over how cute this smaller version of my recently published Galo de Barcelos crochet pattern is. Made with #2 sport weight cotton yarn, this little guy fits right in the palm of my hand. This size also helps it stand on its own a bit better and just gives off that "little lucky charm" vibe, which is perfect since this galo is often seen as a symbol of good fortune. So, this smaller size would be great to keep with you at all times.

What do you think? Do you prefer making amigurumi that are larger statement pieces, or palm-sized versions?🐓

Galo showed up to the park ready to make new friends. But the local roosters took one look at him and said, “Absolutely not, sir. We know an imposter when we see one.” 🐓😂

He tried his best to fit in. He strutted confidently, pecked at the grass, and even practiced his best rooster pose. But the boys weren’t sticking around long enough to hear him out. Poor Galo, just wanted acceptance. Honestly though, I wouldn't mind hanging out with this handsome crochet rooster, would you?

The Galo de Barcelos is one of Portugal’s most famous symbols, known for the legend of a miraculous rooster that saved an innocent pilgrim from execution. Because of that story, the rooster became a symbol of luck, honesty, faith, and good fortune. As someone who loves birds and now calls Portugal home, creating my own crochet version of this iconic rooster felt really special to me. 🐓❤️

Since my positive pickle drawing so many kind words, I thought I'd share with you the drawing I made for my next design. Living in Portugal and loving birds, it was obvious one day I'd be making a galo de Barcelos. I just needed the motivation to complete it.

I'm currently taking some Portuguese language classes and my teacher happens to be from Barcelos. So, I said why not? I finished the pattern, and even got help from my teacher to translate this pattern into Portuguese.

This pattern probably won't sell well; it is a very niche subject. Not many people know about this bird. But sometimes you have to stop and smell the roses, or just make something for the love it, and that's what this pattern is to me. 😊

Gloomy Shroom keeps meeting new mushrooms on his travels, but none of them feel quite like Family to him, so he keeps searching. Did you know Gloomy shroom is based off of the real life mushroom Amanite muscaria, commonly known as the fly agaric? I wonder what type of mushroom Gloomy found in this photo. There are so many types!
