I sometimes have trouble drawing hands and eyes. Do you have any pointers that I can use?
If youāre having trouble drawing any body features, first try to understand how they are built anatomically. And most importantly how they work. For hands, if youāre having trouble drawing them, just use your own hands as reference. But here is a video on quick tips inĀ drawing hands. And here is the anatomy and how they work.Ā The videos are a bit lengthy, so just take your time in learning them as to your own abilities. There are external links leading to other helpful videos too. I personally follow these Youtubers because theyāre very informative and helped me better my drawings by A WHOLE LOT.
As for the eyes, itās more tricky because you gotta know where to position them in the face and at the same time know how to draw them accurately. For faces check thisĀ video. It covers the Loomis method in drawing heads from many angles. And for understanding eyes, check this one. But Iām not gonna leave you with just videos. Ooooh no that wouldnāt do, would it? True the eyes are easier to draw from the front, but what if you want to draw them from the sides? Here is how.Ā Letās simplify drawing the eyes first. This is the view of the eye from the front. Notice the length difference between the edge of the eyebrows and the eyes are the same (purple lines).
But when drawing on a Ā¾ angle face, it will foreshorten itself like this.
Itās because the eyes are hollowed in. The corner of the left eye is closer to the corner of the eyebrows.
It gives dimension to the face giving it more depth and personality.
One of the common mistakes people do is this.
Now if the face is looking at the side, the eyes follow suit. The eyeballs are sphere shaped afterall. To make the eyes for the side view, cut half of the normal view eye in half, like so.
Notice that there is a distance away from the nose bridge from the eyes. It is because of the eyesā hollow socket.
And as usual, donāt do the eyes on the right drawing.
Eyes have personality and the first thing that people see in a face. Thatās why people tend to draw them first as they think it is most important. So important that they draw them bigger than normal, for example anime characters. You are free to draw eyes as you want, but donāt forget the main rules in drawing eyes :)Ā
