You actually cannot skip to being good at a creative endeavour that you haven't put much practice into. You cannot trick your way out of the 'knows that your work is not what you want it to be but don't know how to improve it' stage by planning or reading or talking about it really really hard. At some point you just have to craft through it until your brain finds it's own unique way back to the 'everything I make slaps' stage and be prepared to start the cycle all over again. You just have to make that project you're excited about slightly less good than you want it to be. (Says this standing in a pool of blood and covered in blood and also coughing up a little blood)

it’s sooo funny when rude customers encounter employees who can deny them service for the first time.

i was working at a little cafe where I could deny service over bad behavior, harassment etc. & mask mandates had just ended a week before & already people were being weird about me still wearing mine—an N95, the kind shaped kinda like a duckbill.

so this man walked in, looked at me sooo scathingly, laughed at me, and said “damn. never known a woman to choose…practicality over looks.”

And I just said, “oh. you can go, you’re not getting a drink.” And he said, “what???”

I said, “sir, you just walked in at 6 am & called women impractical and me ugly in one sentence.”

And he was so astonished he didn’t even argue he just turned around and left 💀🙏🏻 it was like he suddenly became self aware

One summer I was running ferry rides across a lake so people could see the waterfalls without walking 6 miles when a guy snapped my bra strap as he was boarding the boat. So i immediately threw him off, he started yelling for my manager, my boss cheerfully informed him that, yeah, she’s the captain of the boat and she can kick off anyone she wants. He goes to storm off, looks expectantly at his girlfriend, and she just goes, “Well, I’M not walking six miles, Michael! I’ll meet you back at the car!” and sits right back down!!!!

The expression on his face when he was told that he couldn’t get on the boat, then immediately told that his girlfriend was ditching him? PRICELESS. he just blinked at her and then stormed off like a child. I gave her a free hat and was like maybe rethink this relationship…….

I genuinely believe that part of why it has become so normalized to be openly callous and evil in politics is that customer service culture has trained affluent people that they can treat everyone they consider beneath them however they want and still be treated kindly.

Being bisexual has taught me that visibility is often far more complicated than people want to admit. There are still those who will measure your identity against your current relationship. There are still people who believe bisexuality becomes more or less real depending on who you are dating, who you have dated, or whether you are dating anyone at all. There are still spaces where bisexual people are expected to explain themselves, defend themselves, and prove themselves in ways that others rarely have to. That reality is exhausting, but it is also clarifying. It teaches you that self respect cannot be built on external validation because external validation can be withdrawn at any moment. Eventually, you learn that your identity does not become legitimate when someone else recognizes it. It was legitimate long before they arrived and it will remain legitimate long after they leave.

So yes, I entered another Pride season single, hot, and bisexual as hell. Not as a joke. Not as a performance. Not as an attempt to convince anyone of anything. I say it because there is power in refusing to diminish yourself. I say it because there is freedom in rejecting the idea that being single is somehow a lesser state of existence. I say it because bisexual people spend enough of our lives being told that we are too much of one thing, not enough of another, too visible for some people, and invisible to everyone else. At a certain point, you stop negotiating with those expectations. You stop apologizing for taking up space. You stop asking permission to exist exactly as you are.

The deeper truth is that being single is not a waiting room, and Pride is not a finish line. Neither exists to hold you in suspension until some future version of your life finally arrives. Life is happening now. Your identity is real now. Your joy is real now. Your body is worthy now. Your place within the bisexual community is real now. There is profound wisdom in understanding that fulfillment cannot always be postponed until circumstances become ideal. Sometimes the most radical thing a bisexual person can do is stand fully in their own life, without qualification, without apology, and without the need to make themselves smaller for the comfort of others.

This Pride, I am not celebrating the possibility of becoming someone else. I am celebrating the reality of already being enough. Not perfect. Not finished. Not immune to loneliness, doubt, or uncertainty. Just enough. Entirely, unapologetically, and undeniably enough. And after everything bisexual people have endured from erasure and misunderstanding to outright dismissal that simple truth remains one of the most powerful acts of resistance there is.
