Work had been relentless recently, Xavier had up and disappeared on you and it reminded you why you needed a partner in the first place. Tara had insisted you go out for drinks with the team and a few other hunters, you relented but chose to stay glued to your team. Simone could drink you under the table, but Andrew was a lightweight, which was funnier than it had any business being. Tara was more mom-friend than you anticipated, but you were grateful for her as your speech started to slur.
She called a friend of hers you’d never met before to take you both home, he was handsome and you made a note to ask her about him when you saw her in the daylight. She was kind enough to help you up the stairs to your door, both of you giggling and bumping into each other the whole way.
You fumbled with your keys in the lock, missing a few times before inspecting the offending key, turning it the right way, and trying again.
“Are you sure you're okay?” Tara asked, a little bit of an intoxicated lilt to her voice, but not quite as bad as yours.
“I'll be fiiiine.” You assured her, finally hearing the click. “I'll drink some water and go straight to bed.”
You hit the solid wall of something at your door, warm and familiar and smelling like home.
“Woah, careful.” Caleb replied.
“Oh, Caleb!” You reached up and grabbed his face, bringing it down to yours and pressing your forehead to his. “It's you!”
“Wow you're really tanked.” He laughed, slipping his arms around your waist.
“Hey, are you good here?” Tara asked again, investigating this man she'd never seen before.
“Never safer than when I'm with my Caleb!” You drunkenly declared, wrapping your arms around his neck and pulling him closer.
“Like.. Caleb Caleb?” Tara squinted at him.
“The one and only. Glad to hear she talks about me when I’m not around.”
“As long as you have her from here, I'm going home.”
“She'll be drinking water and going immediately to bed.” He said with a smile, leaning into you as you pulled him down to you. “Shoot her a text when you’re home safe, I’m sure she’ll appreciate it.”
He shuffled you away from the door, lifting you off your feet and depositing you onto the couch. It felt like an infinity or maybe two minutes before he returned with a bottle of water he made you sit up and drink before he would sit down next to you. You laid your head down in his lap, staring up at him.
“Caleb's in my apartment.” You reached up to pet his face, pushing your feet off the other armrest to get closer to him.
“I thought I would come visit, as a surprise. I've been slammed for the last couple weeks and I finally managed to slip away and I figured you were the perfect person to spend my time with.” He batted your hands away, but you dodged his defenses and resumed carding your fingers through his hair.
“Look at you, thinking of me.”
“You're handsy.” He laughed and interlocked his fingers with yours, still trying to control the conversation.
“Well you're handsome.” You bit back.
“And you're drunk.”
“I've been drunker. I'm actually basically fine now,” you lied. “I could walk a straight line no problem. I could do a cartwheel right across it.”
“Please don't.” He laughed as you stood up to prove it.
“Well.” You stopped as you wobbled on your feet. “I could do a somersault across the straight line.”
“Don't do that either.” He reached his hand out to yours, catching your fingers and entwining them with his again.
It was easy for him to reel you in, you were elated to feel him pull you closer. Instead of aiming for the couch you aimed for his lap. You landed in it sideways and were quick to push your face into his neck and breathe in the scent of him again. He smelled so uniquely Caleb, the combination of his spicy woodsy cologne and whatever fruity bodywash he used swirling together and fogging your brain. He smelled like a home you ached to return to, not the house, but the home you made in him, the way he was the only thing you yearned to come back to. You sighed into it, running your nose along the column of his throat. He sat stock still, almost frozen.
“I don't think I should be letting you do that when you're like this.”
“If I was still sober I'd be so angry at you.”
“Why?”
“You didn't call me back even once last week. Caleb, I miss you so much all the time. I know I don't tell you. It's hard to talk about it.”
“I'm sorry, Pips. Sometimes my missions take me outside cellphone satellite signal. I try to text you when I come back I just..” He trailed off but his arms tightened around your waist.
“You just get busy. It's lonely down here on the ground without you. Sometimes I like to pretend it's like before, and you're away at college and I just have to make it to spring break and I can spend a whole uninterrupted week with you.”
He chuckled, you felt the rumble of his chest against yours. He was so warm and solid and his hands felt so nice on your skin. One of them was colder than the other, a reminder that he had changed.
“But sometimes it feels like I'm still mourning, still texting your old number talking to the void.”
“Pipsqueak, I don't ever want to make you feel like that.” He leaned back and looked in your eyes, searching for something you didn’t know how to convey.
“And then I look at you and-” You pushed his hair out of his face, rubbed a thumb across his concerned brow. “God, look at you.”
He swallowed, you would have thought it felt almost tense, if you were in your right mind to think it. You were nearly straddling him at this point, holding his head gingerly in your hands, pretending not to notice the way his eyes flicked to your lips. Or maybe you didn’t want to pretend anymore.
“Just as handsome as the day I lost you.”
“I'm right here.” His brow furrowed again as he said it, and the tip of his nose just grazed yours.
“I have half a mind to kiss you.”
“That’s a bad idea.”
“Why's that?”
“That's something I need you to be stone-cold sober for.”
His breath ghosted over your lips and it was warm, as warm as he felt pressed against you. His tongue darted out across his lips and you wanted to chase it into his mouth with your own.
His hand clamped over your mouth, quick and firm.
“You're not listening, pipsqueak.”
You jammed your tongue between his fingers, wet and sloppy and completely juvenile. He yanked his hand back quick, toppling you off his lap.
“Ugh yuck, what are you, twelve?” He laughed, wiping his wet hand across his shirt.
“Meanie Caleb.” You replied.
“I’m the meanest Caleb that ever lived, stopping you from doing things you'll regret drunk.”
“As if I'd regret it,” you dismissed. “Plus I'm not even drunk anymore.”
“You just tried to somersault across the living room.”
“You haven't seen my somersaults.”
He laughed again, kissing your forehead as he hoisted you up.
“You can show them to me in the morning.”
He carried you carefully to your bed, letting you nuzzle against his throat as he did, with all the patience of a saint. He peeled the covers back gently and pried your arms out from around his neck to place you gently into bed. He shook his head and laughed as you let out a slew of dramatic noises of frustration.
You unzipped your top and peeled it off over your head, flinging it into the corner of the room near your laundry.
“Hand me something to sleep in.” You said, pointing at your dresser with your whole arm.
“Jesus, pips.” Caleb blushed, covering his eyes as you tried to get to the clasp of your bra behind your back with one hand.
He ducked his head away, opening and closing a drawer as he searched.
“Top drawer.” You clarified, tossing your bra in the same corner and pulling your knees to your chest.
He pulled it open and shuffled through it, hands pausing and pulling things out.
“Is this-” he stopped and unfolded a T-shirt, men's large. “Are these mine? How did you..” He trailed off and thumbed through the drawer again.
“I stole them.”
“I thought I lost this stuff when we lost the house.”
“I stole most of them before.”
“This was my favorite t-shirt. I don't even remember when it went missing.” He worried his thumb over the fabric, bringing it to his face to take a deep inhale. “It smells like you now.”
“I wear it a lot.” You replied, much quieter now.
He handed it behind him, trying not to look over his shoulder at you. You accepted the garment happily, tossing it over your head quickly and shuffling out of your pants to toss them with the rest.
“I'm decent now if you'd like to turn around.” You said as you settled into your pillows.
He looked at you, eyes flicking across your form quickly.
“Looks better on you than it ever did on me.” He said as he leaned against the doorway.
“Liar Caleb.” You replied, snuggling down into your bed, wrapping the big comforter around yourself.
“Goodnight, pipsqueak.” He said as he clicked off the lights.
“Wait. Don't go yet.” You sat up and patted the empty space next to you. “Stay here with me.”
“In your bed?” He snorted a laugh. “I can't do that when you're like this.”
“Yes you can, I'll be so good.”
“You haven't been good for even a second since you got home.” He laughed and shook his head.
“Yes, but, my prize for being good is that I get to wake up next to you. Which is all I really wanted in the first place.”
“Oh, is that all?” He teased.
“Yeah. And maybe other things, but-” You waved your hand dismissively. “I'm too tired for any of that.”
He laughed and took one long stride to your bedside, giving you one chaste kiss on the forehead. He ran his thumb across your cheek, cold and sobering.
“Goodnight, pipsqueak. I'll be here when you wake up.”
You smiled, wide and sleepy and let yourself be tucked in again by his warm hands.
The morning sun was bright and unforgiving. You hadn't closed the curtains the night before and it was here now, streaming through the glass and casting harsh yellow light across your sheets. You sat up and groaned as your head still swam. Trying to keep up with Simone was a mistake. You barely remembered the last half of the night. It was all a blur of bright blue shots, swirling dance floor lights and then the smell of Caleb’s cologne.
Oh.
That’s right. Caleb.
You held your head in your hands and groaned again, leaning your forehead against your bare knees.
“I’ve never seen you drunk before.” Caleb’s voice twinkled with mirth from the doorway. “Do you always act so embarrassing?”
“I'll have you know that I am a delight when I've been drinking normally. There's just something about you that awakens the stupidity in me.”
“Is that so?” He laughed.
You reached your hand across the bed, giving him the grabby hand motion, and he understood it quick enough. He came and sat on the edge, pressing two ibuprofen into your palm and producing a bottle of water. You smiled and gladly took them, drinking half of the bottle in one gulp, and then discarded the bottle to your nightstand. Caleb opened his hand to you, letting you weave your fingers between his and worry your thumb against his skin.
“I'm sorry if I made you uncomfortable last night. I feel pretty mortified about everything I said. The parts of it that I remember, anyway.” You finally broke the silence.
“Both of us live really high stress lives. I'm sorry that I ever made myself something that added to your stress.”
“That's not what I meant.”
He paused, looking at you for a long moment, a small smile playing at his lips.
“Scooch.” He gestured at the bed and you made room, letting him slip in next to you.
The bed dipped with his weight and you tucked yourself against his chest as quickly as you could. He wrapped his arms around you and let you nestle against him, dropping a kiss to the top of your head. Out of everything you lost you missed this the most, the moments when you felt your worst and he would tuck you against his chest and let you listen to his breathing. The hardest part of missing Caleb when he was right here was that some of it just felt like mourning growing up. There were no more summer breaks to spend laying in the grass together, no home you both came back to, no more family trips to see Gran’s extended family. There were just two deeply flawed individuals, clinging to each other through it all.
“For the record.” He finally broke the silence. “I don’t think there’s anything you can do or say that would make me uncomfortable.”
You huffed a laugh against his chest. It wasn’t funny, it was just so Caleb to say it like that. He sat up on one shoulder and leaned over you, sweeping your hair out of your eyes. He carded his fingers through your hair for a moment, letting his thumb worry across your temple as he let his fingers nestle in your hair. You tangled your legs up with his, the comfortable weight of his thigh sitting between yours.
He was so god-damned handsome, you weren’t sure which one of his features to focus on. His eyes were easy to get lost in, like a sunset you’d chase around the earth just so it would never end. His skin was so sweetly sunkissed, a smattering of freckles danced across the bridge of his nose and near his temples. Lips that looked so soft and plush, with the perfect cupids bow to match, you weren't surprised you spent so much time fixated on it last night. Easily the most kissable mouth you had to remind yourself not to stare at. You ran your thumb across the line of his jaw, so handsomely sharp and rough with the stubble of a 5 o’clock shadow.
“I really missed you.” You said, so you didn’t say something else.
“I’ll try to be better about texting, even when I can’t call. And I’ll try to make more time to come see you.”
“You don’t have to do all that I just-” You cut yourself off with a sigh. “I’m just being needy. It’ll pass. We’re coming up on the anniversary of your death and it just makes me feel a little crazy.”
“I don’t want it to pass. I like when you need me. If you want more from me than I want to give you more.” He ran the bridge of his nose across yours, getting quieter and closer. “Whatever you want from me I want from you, too, y’know?”
His voice was so soft and sincere, a reminder that even when you knew you were acting like a pain in the ass he was still your sweet and patient Caleb.
You leaned up and closed the short space between your mouths, feeling his fingers tighten in your hair and pull you closer. His mouth was soft and forgiving, pliant above you. Every kiss was tender and languid, not some greedy gnashing of tongues and teeth you knew you would have tried to coax out of him if he had let you kiss him last night.
He leaned over your body, arms bracketing your head, caging you in beneath him. Nothing had ever felt so easy as laying beneath Caleb, letting him explore your mouth, feeling his hips grind against your thigh.
He sighed against your mouth, taking a moment to rest his forehead against yours. You smiled and bumped your nose against his.
“How long do I get to keep you?” You asked.
“As long as you’d like.” He replied with a smile.
“Liar Caleb.” You teased back.
“Three days. I’ll head back to Skyhaven Monday night.”
“A whole weekend with Caleb, I haven’t gotten one of those in years.”
You kissed him again, soft and chaste, feeling him sigh against you. His hips stilled against you, ceasing the slow grind he was probably barely conscious of. You smiled against his mouth, a mischievous look he knew all too well.
“Why do I feel like I’m about to be in trouble?” He asked.
He didn’t need to wait long for his answer, you slid your fingertips into the waistband of his sweatpants to find what you were looking for. His cock, hard and straining against the fabric of his boxers, you felt it twitch in your hand as you ran your palm along the underside. Caleb gasped your name, pressing his face into your neck as his fists tightened in the sheets. You ran your fingers all the way down to the base, tentatively feeling in the dark. From feeling alone you knew he was well endowed, wrapping your fingers around the base of him to give him a long stroke and listening to him whine against you.
“Do you want to spend the weekend in my bed, Caleb?”
“Yes.” He nearly whimpered into your skin.
“Yes?” You teased. “What do you want to do in my bed all weekend?”
He gasped above you, grinding into your palm. Riling each other up was always both of your favorite hobbies, and this proved to be much more effective than you had even dreamed. Every sound he made rippled through you, pooling low in your belly in a familiar feeling you wanted to chase with him.
“Wh-whatever you want. Anything.”
“Show me.”
You pulled your hands out of his sweatpants and he was quick to react, his hands finding your body and his tongue darting out to taste. His mouth was hot as it made its way down your throat, moaning into your skin as he went.
“Is this okay?” He was almost breathless against you.
“More, please.”
He stopped to suck a bruise just above your collarbone, only relenting when you gasped his name. He pulled down the collar before giving up and rucking up the bottom of your shirt under your neck. He groaned against your skin as he found a nipple and captured it with his mouth, swirling his tongue around it and feeling you arch your back under him.
His hands held up the bulk of your shirt, or rather his shirt you had long stolen, to plant kisses across your ribs. You grabbed the hem to try to pull it off, but his hands grabbed yours, stopping you.
“Leave it.” His face hovered just above your navel, but he turned to look up at you. “I like to see it on you.”
You felt the blush creep up your neck, and he smiled in return. He sat up on his knees to pull his own T-shirt off, letting you gawk from under him.
This was probably the first time you had seen him shirtless since the accident, certainly the only time you'd seen him with lust in his eyes. He was captivating. The Caleb in your mind and memories was all lithe muscle and 19-year-old lankiness. It was easy to forget that not only was he active duty, under all of his uniform and bravado he was still the same Caleb who would run 10 miles at dawn every morning. He had unbelievable dedication and it showed in every toned muscle on him. You knew he had well muscled arms, he had never met a shirt he couldn't cut the sleeves off, but his chest and abs flexed as he moved, perfectly cut all the way down to the deep v that disappeared into his sweatpants slung low on his hips.
“Wow.” Was all you could muster.
“Yeah?” He asked with a smile.
“Don't get a big head.” You rolled your eyes at him. “You already knew you were hot.”
“Did I?” He teased, pulling you closer by your thighs.
He kissed down your throat again, wet and hot, yanking the hem of your shirt around to lay more messy kisses down your chest.
“I'm not the first person to ever look at you like you're hot.”
“You're the only person I’ve ever wanted to look at me like that.” He nearly whispered against your skin.
His tongue met the waistband of your panties and he drew them down, just a little, to suck a little mark into the valley of your hip bone. You gasped and squirmed against him, such a tender confession with such a lewd action. He hooked his fingers in your waistband, looking up at you with a look you couldn't place.
“Can I?” He asked quietly.
“Caleb, please.”
Caleb groaned against you, another wet kiss leaving another dark mark next to the last. He chuckled into your skin as you squirmed again, wiggling out of your panties as he pulled them off of you. He gripped onto your hips, taking a minute to press his face into the soft skin of your belly as he shifted around between your legs.
“Y’know, I always told myself when I got to this point I'd know exactly what to do.” He finally said.
You laughed, tossing your forearm over your eyes and tightening your legs around him.
“You laugh it up now, but if I'm bad at this you're not allowed to make fun of me later.”
“Wait, you've never-” You sat up on your elbows to look at him. “Like not at all?”
“When exactly would I have had time to be doing any of this stuff? I spent all my free time studying or on a train home to see you.”
“I don't know. You're like hot hot. And you lived in co-ed dorms.”
“You mean the dorms I paraded you through as my girlfriend every few months?”
“Shit, Caleb.”
He laid his head against your thigh, shrugging his shoulders and settling against you.
“I can't believe you died a virgin.” You teased, nudging him in the ribs with your ankle.
“Alright, that's enough out of you!” He laughed back, biting into the flesh of your thigh and holding your hips down as you squirmed with laughter.
The laughter that bubbled up in your chest quickly changed as you felt his tongue, hot and wet, carve its way through your slick entrance before circling your clit. You gasped against him, letting your hands find his hair. He did it again, letting you feel his tongue probe inside you before flicking back around your clit.
He found his own rhythm, letting your sounds guide him as he groaned into your pussy, almost enjoying it as much as you were. Two fingers pressed into your entrance, soaked and eager and you bucked your hips up as he crooked them just right. He brought his other hand down over your hips and pressed you down to the bed under him as he rutted against the mattress, lost in the unhurried act of bringing you to your ruin.
Watching him under you felt both lewd and sacred, something you had dreamt of too many nights to admit, and now that you had it you were going to claim it as long as you could. Orgasm coiled tightly around you, finding its peak as Caleb’s hips ground down and he moaned, reverberating through you and crashing as you clenched around his fingers.
“Caleb- fuck!” You cried against him as you gripped the blankets you were still nested in.
“There’s my girl.” He whispered, pumping his fingers in and out and watching you buck and squirm against him. “God, you're so pretty like this.”
He worried a thumb across your hipbone as he held your hips down, working his fingers as he leaned over you and drank in every inch he could.
“Caleb, take your pants off.” You said with as much authority as you could gather, voice absolutely wrecked.
“What, why?” He asked, almost distracted, his eyes glued to where he was looking at adding a third finger, his thumb teasing against your sensitive clit.
“Why do you think?” You laughed, leaning up on your elbows to catch his eyes.
His eyes were clouded with lust as they met yours, a smoldering look that caught you off guard and held you in place. He held the eye contact, nodding wordlessly as he wiped at the wet corner of his mouth with the back of his hand, smearing your release more across his lips.
He looked like temptation, that sin he always said he couldn’t bear alone.
“God, you’re hot.” You said, almost by accident.
A smile cracked across his smolder, that little dusting of pink across his ears that meant if he wasn’t so flushed that would have been a successful attempt at making him blush. Not like any of that made him less hot, his smile was like sunlight and when you didn’t see it you craved it.
“You keep saying that today. Careful or me and my big head will start to believe it.” He laughed as he shuffled back, easing out of his sweatpants and boxers.
He settled on his knees, crawling back up the bed between your legs to hover over you. His cock hung heavy between you, hard and leaking and heavy with need.
You wanted to touch.
You wanted to taste.
You settled for gawking.
“If I say it again now I’ll never hear the end of it.”
“I won’t say no to the attention.” He smiled again, giving himself a slow stroke and leaning in closer. “Buuuut… I have some more questions about how hot you think I am today over breakfast.”
The blunt head of his cock smeared across your wet core, bumping against your clit as he guided it through the slick of your release. You gasped under him and tightened your thighs around his waist.
“Are you sure about this?” He asked quietly.
You knew what he was asking, this was the point of no return. Anything more than this and you could never pivot back to the guarded yearning you had both been doing for the last decade, something much messier would have to pry you apart.
“I don't think I've ever been more sure of anything.” You replied just as quietly.
He pushed in slow, his hands gripping your hips and biting into your skin. You knew he was well endowed from the moment you wrapped your hand around him but it was different now that he was splitting you open. Every inch was a slow and noisy ordeal, both of you bracing against each other, not sure which one of you was whimpering. It felt like an eternity, watching him above you in all his muscled glory, his chest and shoulders flexing as he eased in.
“God, you feel- fuck.” He gasped and leaned over you, letting one of his hands skitter across your skin before gripping you again. “Like, impossibly good.”
His hips met flush with yours, and he folded, pressing his forehead to your chest and bracing both hands on your ribcage. He took a steadying breath and held onto you, desperate to not seem like he was about to fall apart.
You rolled your hips experimentally, feeling him twitch inside you as he cursed and whined out your name.
“If you keep that up this is going to be over embarrassingly fast.” He huffed with a shaky laugh.
“If you're not going to move then you have to kiss me.” You teased back.
He eased up off his knees and leaned closer, shifting his weight forward over you and bracketing his arms around your head. You leaned up and kissed him, slow and hungry with need. His fingers tangled in your hair, pulling you closer to him somehow.
He finally drew back, just as carefully, before the first few tentative thrusts. He settled on a pace, slow and deep, pulling almost all the way out before sinking completely into you again.
“Is this good?” He asked against your mouth, punctuating with another deep thrust.
“Everything is perfect, don't stop.” You keened under him.
You felt him smile as he buried his face in your neck, picking up his pace. He sucked a bruise into your skin, bright blossoming red where he could latch on and you squirmed under him.
“Ah- Caleb!”
“God, I love hearing you say my name like that.”
His teeth grazed skin before his tongue followed, another dark mark next to the other, messy and and claiming.
Heat coiled tight in your belly again, crawling towards orgasm slowly, but you sought to pick up the pace. You brought two fingers down and made one tight circle before Caleb’s hand was circling your wrist, pulling you away.
“Let me do it.” He said, breath ragged in his chest.
He stuck two fingers in his mouth and then swirled them, wet and hot, around your clit.
You squirmed under him again, pulling him closer with your legs and rocking your hips. Orgasm racked through you, pulsing as his fingers moved in time with his thrusts. You cried out his name again and again, broken and desperate as you came apart under him. He fucked you through it, stuttering as your walls fluttered and clenched around him.
He cursed under his breath as he bucked into your slack form, a shaky whine you felt in your core. His face was buried in your neck again, whimpering your name as his hips met flush to yours and he pressed in deep. You felt him finally snap, pulling you desperately close as he met his own completion buried deep inside you.
You tucked a leg around him as he went slack above you, pulling him closer while he settled against you.
The silence felt almost intimate, just the two of you breathing against each other. The morning sun was rising, scattering light through the blinds across the bed and across his naked form. You nuzzled your face against his and listened to his contented hmm.
“So, was that your plan for the weekend?” You finally asked quietly and he chuckled in response.
“No, that was your plan for the weekend, apparently. Mine was way more pathetic. I was going to sleep on your couch and hope if I cooked the right meal you might kiss me on the cheek or something.” He laughed.
“I see.” You teased back. “Well, cook a good enough meal and we can see about the or something.”
