Cidade De Deus/ City Of God (2002)
Cidade de Deus is a 2002 Brazilian film directed by Fernando Meirelles and Katia Lund. The film takes place in the 1970s, narrated by a boy who dreams of becoming a photographer and exposes the daily difficulties and violence experienced by people in the shantytown of Rio De Janeiro. The film's photography and script impress and show the capacity of Brazilian cinema, in addition to exposing reality in a faithful way. The film earned 30.6 million USD, best montage and best foreign film award, although it is important to mention that black actors after the success of the film received few or almost no job offers, many ended in a humble and sad fate. While the white actors, although they did not have such an important role in the film, were destined for success and some even achieved an international career. Cidade De Deus is a film that deserves importance for demonstrating the sad reality both inside and outside the cinema, Brazil's shantytown need to be helped, and black actors like Leandro Firmino, Babu Santana, Alexandre Rodrigues, Darlan cunha, Douglas Silva, Renato De Souza, Bruno Sabino, Seu Jorge, Phellipe Haagensen and Jonathan Haagensen they should have their value recognized after such a profound and wonderful performance.
