what are the froggies in ur pfp and banner? I saw a DVD set with them on it one time at a bookstore, but it was in a language I didn't understand so I couldn't read the name and ended up leaving it

It's from a manga/anime called Keroro Gunsou, or Sergeant Frog in the US localization. Think Invader Zim except instead of buglike aliens, its a whole planet full of alien frogs that make it their mission to conquer planets. A team of 5 alien frogs are given the mission to invade Earth with the titular Sgt Keroro as the leader and despite all their training and technology, get foiled by a human high school brother and sister pair. Its mostly episodic comedy however there are a few plot points where theres a deep conspiracy/mystery and serious moments.

You happen to know what's going on in the newer Manga chapters? There's been quite a few interesting plot stories (the current easter island arc in particular) but alas no translators!

I know the general gist of the arc, yeah, but I can’t say I know all the details. I’ve been reading the chapters as they go up on Comic Walker, but they’re pretty short and they disappear after the month they’re online, never to be seen again unless you buy the newest volume (no scans of 28 online just yet and I’m not even sure these latest chapters are IN a bound volume), and my memory is too crappy to remember everything.

Anyway, the Easter Island arc is part of a larger arc called “Fuyuki’s Seven Wonders of the World,” otherwise known as the Keroron Ball arc. These seven orbs containing immense invasion power that look exactly like Dragon Balls are scattered around various mysterious locations, and Fuyuki and the platoon have to go round them up. There was already a first part involving the Nazca lines or something but I never actually got to read that. The Easter Island part is the second one and is essentially a Yoshizaki retelling of Movie 5 with a few narrative changes (similar to what he’s done with his second movie arc). I can’t say I remember the specific differences because like I said I forgot most of what I read (and big chunks of Movie 5 for that matter). I need to catch up on the manga period…I’m on volume 18 lol.

About the lack of translators, as much as I’d like to help remedy that, I don’t have the time nor energy for much more than the song translations I do because I’m obligated to fansubbing another anime at the moment. If and when I finish with that, I would be interested in doing more for Keroro Gunso as long as my real life circumstances allow for it.

I know translating is a lot of work, but would it be too hard if I asked for merely a summary of certain chapters (and possibly cool quotes, lol)?

So we’re four issues into Unicron and call me premature… but there are just a few panels that have rubbed me up all sorts of the wrong way that I really need to talk about. Mostly in the hope that all of my worst fears for how this verse is going to be tied up, won’t come to fruition. Still though… stuff like this makes me pretty dubious:

I’m hoping the fact that it appears Bee and Starscream’s relationship has just been completely forgotten is meant to be some form of misdirection and that we’ll ultimately get a satisfying conclusion to their arc, because I can’t wrap my mind around why they would put so much effort into building up their relationship only to abandon it all at the last moment.

But then lets face it, it wouldn’t be the first time a relationship arc with a lot of interesting potential was just randomly dropped in these comics.

Wild conspiracy theory time: Bee doesn't remember being a ghost. He remembers bits and pieces maybe, the feeling of being incredibly lonely especially, but stuff like actually being friends with Starscream he doesn't remember.

It would explain why they glossed over Bee's resurrection if they're trying to keep it a secret, why Windblade needed to get him caught up on current events, why he's acting like his pre dead self when talking with Starscream (and Starscream being Starscream would never be the one to bring it up first).

It would be a further nod to Cyberverse, which Bee, Star, and Optimus currently take design cues from and the plot revolves around cyberverse bee having amnesia.

I will finally point to a scene in Optimus Prime 22, where in the middle of Bee and Optimus Prime reuniting in the living world, we get a curious panel of Wheeljack commenting to Pyra that her neocortical waves are unusual and handwaves it as due to her combiner ability. The timing of it is really weird, the way it coincided with Bee and Prime specifically, especially when one remembers they were just in her mind, specifically the combiner portion. Would it be too far fetched if something got accidentally left behind? We still don't know the nature of how Bee even became a ghost rather than just plain dying.

I saw in the recent episode that theres a refference to teh gummi bears. oes this mean there is a possiblity of them making an apperance in teh show sans Puaal wintchel?

So Black Heron, who is racing Scrooge and Beakley to the page of the Great Book of Gummi in that clip, is played by April Winchell, who was a constant joy to work with as Sylvia on Wander Over Yonder.

She also just happens to be Paul Winchell’s daughter. I kinda love that little nod.

Random Ducktales thought

Been seeing some goddess AUs in the ducktales tag and was suddenly struck with a thought: If the Spear of Selene is an actual mythological artifact of the moon goddess (well Titan to be exact), what if there's an artifact for her brother, Helios, god of the sun?

After all, many myths depict him as not just a chariot rider in the sky, but one who sails a golden boat at night. And since Selene and Helios were sometimes identified as Artemis and Apollo, who were twins...

I'm just saying, it wouldn't be surprising if somewhere down the line, Scrooge unearths a temple dedicated to a sun god. And wouldn't it be interesting if history repeats itself and what happened to Della starts happening again to Donald?

Another interesting thing to note: one of Donald's hidden talents in the Rosa comics is that he is able to see super miniscule details effortlessly (like the footprints of a fly on a doughnut), which is how he is able to distinguish the triplets who all wore black turtlenecks in the comics. The god Helios is characterized as being able to witness everything in heaven and earth under his all seeing eye.
