every time a female character is one note and underwritten the fandom is immediately like “WHAT IF SHE WAS EVIL AND LOVED MURDER” but whenever a male character is one note and underwritten everyone is just like “aww what a perfect sweet baby boy he’s the best character in the entire series he deserves a super edition that is just him hunting for his clan and being a good bf i hope he never gains any character traits other than ‘nice’ and ‘loyal’ lest the erins ruin him by giving him Flaws” and it’s just such a… bizarre double standard imo
people are pointing this out in the replies but also very interesting how the fandom instantly jumped on the theory of curlwhisker being an evil mastermind and called her an awful mother for completely made up fanon reasons and now people are bemoaning the idea of owlnose and splashtail having had something to do with the deaths in riverclan because god forbid erin hunter ruins the Sweet Good Boys as if we are at all in short supply of male background characters whose only purpose is being “loyal to their clan” and it’s quite annoying to be fucking honest lol i hope fernsong is arbitrarily revealed to be a serial killer just to piss people off
StarClan should have kept some of the godlike traits the clans ascribe to them. I would read a novella about a newly dead spirit learning how to make trees grow, turn the seasons, and create new prey.
Imagine some massive, battle-worn cat who now has to craft tiny little newborn kittens. His mentor is a kit who died very young, but they’ve been doing this even longer than their new apprentice was alive. The old warrior is distraught when he places one too many toes on the newborn, but his mentor winks and assures him, “A blessing from StarClan itself, its parents will be thrilled!“

To be clear- Cinderpelt finding a new sense of purpose and direction as a medicine cat OF HER OWN FREE WILL after suffering a life-changing injury is not ableism. Firestar constantly feeling sorry for her when she's clearly happy and lamenting the fact that she never got to be a Warrior every time she so much as crosses his line of sight is ableism.
Briarlight being physically unable to preform traditional Warrior duties and finding other things that she can do around camp that make her feel good about herself as a contributing member of her community is not ableism (though they really should've explored it more). Millie explicitly saying that Jayfeather keeping her daughter alive is only prolonging her suffering and that she will always have an "incomplete" life is ableism.
Longtail choosing to retire to the elders den early because he feels unable to comfortably preform his Warrior duties after the loss of his sight is not ableism. Jayfeather being told his blindness means he has no other choice but to become a medicine cat and then being bullied into it by the adults in his life and even his ancestors, despite the fact that he states again and again that he wants to be a Warrior, is ableism.
Disabled characters existing, and not being able to do all of the things that fully abled characters can do is not the problem, and rewriting them to be able to do everything able bodied warriors can is not the solution. The problem is denying disabled characters agency, refusing to accept that they can find happiness and fulfillment in non-traditional roles in Clan life, and treating their lives as though they are somehow diminished by their disabilities.
I wanna catch up with the new wc books but nightheart sounds insufferable
adding to the crowfeather discussion i’ve seen today, i’ve noticed that nearly every female character in his life (sans nightcloud) has been written to be his primary emotional support. feathertail brings him out of his shell and dies in his place; leafpool pulls him out of his grief and makes him happy again. hell, his mother even refuses to ascend to starclan until she’s helped her son learn how to love the people in his life.
nightcloud is the only woman he’s close with that didn’t accommodate him and his bad behaviour to this extent, and she’s demonized because of it. it’s sort of subtly positioned within the books that nightcloud having her own feelings and emotional needs makes her selfish and a bad wife, while crowfeather gets to be as distant as he wants without it ever reflecting badly on him. she’s responsible for fixing him, even when he has little interest in her.
it’s not a bad thing that crowfeather has supportive family and love interests, but my problem is that he rarely ever has to come to conclusions for himself or rectify his behaviour on his own - female characters always step in to tell him what to do or to do it for him. he’s a grown adult and yet he needed to have his hand held and the root of the problems in his life gently explained to him by his dead mother and girlfriend, when he could have gotten there from introspection
“people relate to nightheart because they also have neglectful mothers so it’s bad to say they’re not allowed to like sparkpelt :/” ok but it’s not about fan reaction, it’s about how the authors continually make the choice to only have female characters exist in service of the male main character’s arc and be treated as antagonistic forces because they don’t tell him exactly what he wants to hear. it’s about how every male character gets to have an arc where their feelings about their place in the clan and the expectations placed upon them, but the female characters never get their feelings explored and exist solely in service of the male main character. it’s about how they made a character look inexplicably identical to the most important character in the series but never do anything with this and just handwave her with “she doesn’t feel any pressure to live up to firestar’s name!” only to give this arc about firestar’s legacy to her son and have it be portrayed as something that no one else in the clan can understand. it’s about how absent fathers in the series are either never acknowledged at all or given a sympathetic reason as to why they’re distant whereas sparkpelt is portrayed as emotionally neglectful because she didn’t sneak past the borders of an evil dictator after being forcibly exiled to visit her son. like… i am begging warrior cats fans to stop trying to analyze the characters as if they’re real people and not narrative tools. it’s not about the characters’ actions themselves, it’s about why the authors chose to write them a certain way and why it’s bad that they continue to repeat these writing choices over and over again
i think one of the saddest things abt dovewing is the way she had her childhood ripped away from her and nobody cared or even knew because she was forced to stay quiet about it. she was so young and suddenly she’s a part of a prophecy that tells her she’s destined to save everyone she’s ever known and she has these terrifying sensory nightmare powers and she can’t get a moment of rest anymore. there’s only two people in the world that she’s allowed to confide in but they never want to talk to her about this, because they resent her for not being the person they wish she was. they wish her place in the prophecy had been for their (seemingly) dead sister instead, and dovewing can never hope to fill her shoes. and they’ll always hate her a little bit for that. all they do is tell her that she’s not like everyone else, she’s special, and therefore she’ll always be alone. and for her own good, she needs to distance herself from her friends and family because they’ll never understand and they can’t know and she can’t talk to them and she might as well start getting used to it. and when her sister pulls becomes suspicious and angry and jealous, when her mother is worried sick, when her friends and clanmates wonder about her, she can’t say anything. and this whole time she’s just a child. and this explains why later on she continues to keep secrets and feels like she can’t trust or confide in anyone anymore like this ruined her. and it gets to the point where she doesn’t even really feel she belongs in thunderclan anymore. she doesn’t really belong anywhere.
Parents please check your kids candy this Halloween. I found the old warrior cats website in my kid’s candy bar
Firestar just so profoundly weirded out by his grandson but agreeing to help with whatever the hell he’s doing anyway, we love to see it.
I really thought I could escape from warrior cats hell but hi here I am, back on my warrior cats tumblr account
my relationship with Warrior cats could best be described as a strained marriage
the queen died but honestly leafpool has been through so much more. The hardships she’s faced aren’t even comparable to dying of old age. Until the queen has done what leafpool has done I don’t feel sympathy.
wtf is a 'tiktok song' we discover music through animation memes and warriors MAPs as god intended
Broke: Snowfur was making Thistleclaw a better person with her presence and when she died he went off the deep end, if only she didn’t die he would have been a rude but harmless wifeguy Woke: Thistleclaw was actively making Snowfur a more violent, xenophobic person which contributed to her death on that road chasing a defeated ShadowClan cat over the border. Instead of internalizing that his bloodthirsty mindset is reckless, got his mate killed, and certainly would kill countless more good warriors, he doubled down and set his sights on grander ambitions.
New Frostpaw design! Inspired by Coby the cat :3 Bc I thought, we've never had a white protagonist in the main series so I wanted to make her almost fully white,, (still think we have too many light gray protagonists lol)
