I found this boy, moments after this picture was taken, dying on the side of the playground. His sign was at his feet shredded into pieces which were floating in the pooled blood around him. I asked if there was anything I could do to help him and he simply shrugged.

It was the most beautiful shrug I had seen in my life, a shrug that hinted at a consciousness and a wonder that I could only begin to grasp. It was a shrug that spoke to me, that resonated with the very core of my being and bestowed a simple message upon me. It is a message I shall carry to my grave.
