Words to describe someone's voice

adenoidal: if someone’s voice is adenoidal, some of the sound seems to come through their nose

appealing: an appealing look, voice etc shows that you want help, approval, or agreement

breathy: with loud breathing noises

brittle: if you speak in a brittle voice, you sound as if you are about to cry

croaky: if someone’s voice sounds croaky, they speak in a low rough voice that sounds as if they have a sore throat

dead: if someone’s eyes are dead, or if their voice is dead, they feel or show no emotion

disembodied: a disembodied voice comes from someone who you cannot see

flat: spoken in a voice that does not go up and down. This word is often used for describing the speech of people from a particular region.

fruity: a fruity voice or laugh is deep and strong in a pleasant way

grating: a grating voice, laugh, or sound is unpleasant and annoying

gravelly: a gravelly voice sounds low and rough

gruff: a gruff voice has a rough low sound

guttural: a guttural sound is deep and made at the back of your throat

high-pitched: a high-pitched voice or sound is very high

low adjective: a low voice or sound is quiet and difficult to hear

low adverb: in a deep voice, or with a deep sound

matter-of-fact: used about someone’s behaviour or voice

modulated: a modulated voice is controlled and pleasant to listen to

monotonous: a monotonous sound or voice is boring and unpleasant because it does not change in loudness or become higher or lower

nasal: someone with a nasal voice sounds as if they are speaking through their nose

orotund: an orotund voice is loud and clear

penetrating: a penetrating voice or sound is so high or loud that it makes you slightly uncomfortable

plummy: a plummy voice or way of speaking is considered to be typical of an English person of a high social class. This word shows that you dislike people who speak like this.

quietly: in a quiet voice

raucous: a raucous voice or noise is loud and sounds rough

rough: a rough voice is not soft and is unpleasant to listen to

Valentines.

Inspired by this post My husband and I are trying to limit out spending this year for valentines, as we're heading to MCM Telford on the 15th. I saw the above post on Buzzfeed the other night in bed, and we've agreed that its a great idea, and something we could definitely do for less than £20. Being the strange person I am, I keep shoes boxes. I store random crap in them. I have lots spare because you never know when you'll need them. Such as this. I've been thinking about this and I've realised my husband never comes on here, so I'm pretty safe posting this. So. We're both pretty big fans of anima/manga/games/comics... all that sort of thing. I'm reluctant to label us as nerd/geeks/dorks because genuinely, I don’t feel comfortable doing that. It indicates we're some how outside of the norm, and for us, that IS the norm. So why should I use derogatory terms? Anyway, back on topic. I’ve been considering things I can sub into the box in place of the suggestions and I’ve decided that actually, there’s a whole plethora of gifts I can get or make that he would be thrilled with. And to make it even better, I’m thinking about making some ATC (Artistic Trading Cards) with specific flavours to use as gift tags. So, I’ve been considering his favourite characters from series we like. For example. I considered the various TV shows we like, the manga we read, the games we play, and I took apart the ones I felt were better for him. I resulted in a list of 9 things. Pokémon, Spiderman, Green Lantern, Stargate SG1, Yu-Gi-Oh, Cardfight Vanguard, Dungeons and Dragons, Death note and Bleach. I figured there are a fair few pun-inspired valentines floating around on the internet already for some of these franchises, and I fully admit to taking inspiration from them. But I give credit where credit is due and want to thank these folk for providing me with inspiration: Never Ending Dickjokes, dacoolcat, and a bunch of google images. His favourite characters from each series listed above are providing the gift ATC’s . Keep posted for updates on this :)

This sites are all safe, I have used them and installed them on my computer before recommending so there is no risk! 

Google Drive (This one you need to have Google Chrome, but it’s easy and free. The great thing about this one and the reason is on the top of the list is because you save on the cloud so you can access your documents, sheets, presentations from everywhere! Computers, Ipads, Phone apps! Just have a login and you are done! You can also share with people which makes it more awesome!

A step by step of how I modified a parasol to replicate the Jolly Holiday parasol from Mary Poppins. Too tired to add descriptions but its pretty easy I think to see whats what. Further pictures to come. I've still got to do the handle mod and thats abour it then.

One of those days

I dreamt I got up for work but I’d lost a ton of weight and was wearing this real slinky dress and super high heels. I went into our kitchen and there was a bloke there who was real creepy, he followed my back upstairs and shot my husband while he was still in bed with a sawed off shotgun. Point blank to the head. Graphic. I run downstairs and struggle to get into my car because of the heels and the dress, but I manage and lock the door as he gets there. He smashed the window and drags me out by the hair, trying to kidnap me. I manage to get away, kick the shoes off and start running down the street, screaming for help but people are just watching. The bloke catches up and stands and aims, shoots the shotgun at my and my back is splintered with the buckshot. Then im waking up in hospital, being told my husband is dead etc, and my parents are telling me its my fault. Literally woke up vomiting because of it, and im having a really shitty day at work to follow it. Fridays are meant to be fun, arent they?

Reducing a hats height.

Mary’s beautiful hat from the jolly holiday scene has a very short height for the “cap” bit. If I have time and money, I’d have gone out of my way to learn how to make a hat and get it as authentic as possible. Alas, I have neither. So. I had an old white sub hat that I think I wore perhaps once and I modified it. Initially, I marked out approximately half way up the cap and around it so I had a cutting guide line. Then I carefully cut along the line which gave me two pieces. I positioned the full head cap piece over the brim and pinned it as flat as possible (it bunched up a reasonable amount in the back but some snipping and repositioning it say nicely). Then, I took a measure of good, thick thread and I hand stitched around so that the two pieces were one again, just about hair the height as before. And as you can see, this has provided me with a lovely base to work with. Voila!

Ladies and gentlemen, I have set myself a challenge to turn this fabric stash into the jolly holiday costumes from Mary Poppins. Total fabric cost: £29.60. Time to do this: 4 weeks, working only on Sundays and the occasional evening after work. I believe I'll get it done, but I'll probably be finishing the sewing on the way to the convention!
