She’s aware that the question is…loaded in a way…but Yuffie also knows that it is an easy one to answer.

A deep breath, she nods, smiles softly and lets out a small laugh.

“Of course.”

It was not something she had ever doubted. Despite the complexity of Cloud Strife, and his contradictions, he was really quite simple deep down at his core.

“You are someone who cares, even if you never say it or show it, someone who cares about what is right, who cares enough to do the right thing even when it’s really hard, someone who cares about the people they love, enough to have unwavering loyalty.” They were all things she had seen him do, over and over again, often she found the words that came out of him didn’t always seem to match what he did but….she was very guilty of that too.

“I know all the things about you that matter.”

Silence followed her answer. His mako-hued eyes softened, and a subtle smiled touched his lips. Yuffie could ramble for minutes without stop and yet he listened, adding a ‘yeah’ ‘hmm’ or ‘huh' now and again. During these little moments of doubt, when he questioned his own reality from time to time, he held to her words like a lifeline.

Things were different after all these years. Easier to express his emotions, though he maintained his famous stiff, stern demeanor.

He placed his hand over her shoulder, leaned in, and kissed her cheek. “Thank you… my white rose.”

Felt like the right thing to say, better than saying it while dying from a behemoth attack.
