Please keep interacting with this post because when I come to tumblr to procrastinate, this shows up again in my notifications and guilts me into writing again
Is there an ADHD-friendly skin? Maybe one that alternates/changes the color of words every other line?
Hey!
So, I couldn't find a guide on design dedicated to adhd, if you know any document by some adhd association around the world that addresses this please send it to me because it seems like something I'd like to do.
I've seen some recommendation on having less distractions and stuff like that, I can't do a lot about the overwhelming amount of options Ao3 gives you, but if people need a guide to hide stuff from the ui that they don't use (for example I straight up went and hidden the search bar from my header because I never use it) I can do that.
Meanwhile, the alternating line can be sort of done with some weird workarounds and stuff that unfortunately isn't very supported across browsers. For example, I can see it correctly on chrome and safari on my mac but safari on my iphone can't. Chrome on my iphone can. I don't know about other mobile browsers.
(this is because css can't select alternating lines, but only the first one. you don't need me to tell you how WEIRD is that, since you can select alternating ANYTHING in css)
Anyway, let's put aside my grievances with css and let's go to the code. I'll put it behind a cut because it's a long explaination with images
Both of those options can be used as a standalone skin or you can add a parent skin you are already using to add this effect.
So if you are using a skin that hide some work or some author, if you are using reversi, or using the dyslexia friendly skin I made, you just go to the advanced options (when you are making the new skin) and add that skin as a parent.
Option 1: Different colored lines
This one is the finnickier because it really looks different across skins and browser and ANYTHING.
Go create a new skin, give it a name and add this code.
The code is:
#workskin p, system p, .news p, .blurb p {
background-image: linear-gradient( to bottom, #0052D4 50%, black 50%, black);
background-size: auto 3.5em;
-webkit-background-clip: text;
-moz-background-clip: text;
-webkit-text-fill-color: transparent;
-moz-text-fill-color: transparent; }
Create a new skin and use the dyslexia skin as a parent. OR you could use any other skin as a parent (except dark mode, you'll need to change the colors for that)
If you use Reversi (Dark Mode) as a parent skin change this line
background-image: linear-gradient( to bottom, #0052D4 50%, black 50%, black);
into this line
background-image: linear-gradient( to bottom, #9edbe8 50%, white 50%, white);
Common Problem
if it does weird things like this (and it will):
you need to play around with this line of code and change the number around:
background-size: auto 3.5em;
Try 3.8em, 3em, 2.8em (use dot not comma). And see what looks best. Still, this is a nightmare. 3em works best for me on chrome with the default skin. 3.5em is what works best on the dyslexia skin I made.
Option 2: gradient words
I like this the best because there's no need to go and poke around at the size and I've seen some websites recommend this. Also it looks pretty.
Go create a new skin, give it a name and add this code.
The code is:
I’ve been guilty of the, “Ariel gave up her voice for a man,” stance too, but upon examination one of the messages in The Little Mermaid is that it’s important for parents to listen to their children as much as they want to be listened to. If Triton hadn’t destroyed Ariel’s collection, she never would’ve felt hurt and desperate enough to go to Ursula and take her deal. And seriously who was hurt by her having her human collection? Because her father lashes out and refuses to be a person she can feel comfortable being honest with, she goes to a person who poses a threat to her. Listen to kids, even if you don’t immediately like what they’re saying or you’re putting them in a position to seek out safe spaces with unsafe people.

It's just occurred to me that Ariel and Eric kind of "bumping into each other" in the library is essentially their real Meet Cute in the live action adaption. Yes, they "meet" each other the night of the shipwreck but three things complicate that:
Eric only gets an unclear glimpse of Ariel along with a bit of her voice in "siren mode"
At the end of For the First Time, Ariel realizes how much they don't really know each other at all beyond her voice...that she no longer has. The dejection she feel is enough that she doesn't even try (as unsuccessful as it likely would have been) to Charades an explanation of "No, I AM the girl that saved you! I just lost my voice RECENTLY!" She gives up, and sadly sits at her window before falling asleep.
Ariel literally cannot remember that, even she didn't want to pursue a relationship with Eric, she has to get Eric to kiss her in 3 days or her legs are gone and she'll be chained to Ursula forever.
So, when Ariel left her room, it wasn't to find Eric at all; it was out of her dampened-but-still-strong curiosity of the human world. She finds her way into the library, stays there because she is fascinated with the human objects she finds, and then Eric happens go to that room, too. It's important to note that this isn't officially Eric's room: he says "no one ever comes in here", meaning it's meant to be a public space anyone could enter that he had unofficially taken over with his collection. It's just a/the castle library and the both of them happened to cross paths in it. And because Ariel still doesn't remember any reason she HAS to interact with Eric, her efforts to continue their interaction instead of leaving (pick up things for him to explain, showing him new aspects about the things she knows, etc) are 99% if not 100% motivated by her love to learn and share knowledge. And because Eric also loves to learn and share knowledge, he is now intrigued by her in a way that he was not at the end of For the First Time.
So they could have met completely for the first time in that library and they still would have fallen in love because essentially that was the first time they met each other (this is further proven by the fact that Ariel doesn't need or use any of the information about Eric she learned from eavesdropping in the lifeboat to keep his attention; his collection and his enthusiasm for it is enough to gather he loves to exploring new things).
Fuck I’m at a fencing tournament and literally a minute after I reblogged this my dad told me that he talked to the point people and I’m probably going to win a medal.
I need to follow up to say I reblogged this last night, and this morning I got some of the best news of my life, like, a life dream come true news thing.
FUCK, I though it was just another lucky meme but LISTEN. Since a week ago I was waiting a phone call to confirm me if I got a job or not in my university. I reblogged this yesterday’s night “just for fun and because I don’t want any bagel to be mad with me”, and today’s afternoon, while I was losing my time as always, the professor I was supposed to work with called me and asked me for my personal information to start working with her.
Kinda crazy that we had those back to back boring ass fights between Rey and Kylo when the Finn vs Kylo fight was right there. The story kept TRYING to tell us that ms. Forhead and the abominable snowman had a bond that needed to be addressed and explored...except they didn’t!! Like no offense, but who the fuck is Rey?? She didn’t care about any of this! She had no stake in the game!! They didn’t even give her one throughout the trilogy tbqh!! Things happened to her/around her and she reacted and I’m supposed to care about fight number 728 between her and that refrigerator body bitch? No!! FINN is the one who defected. FINN is the one whose existence posed a threat to the FO. FINN is the one whose family we should’ve learned about. FINN. F I N N. NOT SOME WHITE LADY FROM THE SAND DUNES OF WHO GIVES A FUCK.
Honestly? John Boyega has every right to snap at Disney and the racists assholes that worked in the sequels. They were awful to him, they butchered his character and destroyed every single drop of enthusiasm he had when he was hired and for what?? To make r*ylo happen?? To make us feel bad for kyle?? To give him a "redemption arc"? They did him wrong and they did it on purpose, let's never forget that
So I reblogged this exactly a week ago because I thought it was funny and uh lo and behold, a family friend wrote me a big ol’ check just to help me out of a tough financial spot AND my bank refunded me $32 for fees they’d originally taken out. SO UH YEAH. Reblogging this again in hopes that it brings equally good fortune to my followers.
“I started out as a writer and a director. I started acting because I wanted to know how to relate to the actors. When people ask me what I do, I don’t really say that I’m an actor, because actors often wait for someone to give them roles.”
john boyega and oscar isaac really truly went ‘fuck you disney you cowards, what you gonna do?? FIRE ME?!?!’ as soon as their contracts ended and boy oh boy do i RESPECT that
