I hate how often people try to use my criticisms of christianity (based in like ... real history and also my own lived experiences) as a foot in the door to be antisemitic like nah nah nah that's not what we're doing here. The frustrating thing about antisemitism is that people will use fucking anything as a foot in the door to be antisemitic so you're just playing whack a mole with literally any Opinion somehow being twisted around into Blaming Jews Again

There's this really frustrating goyish idea that Jews are always finding "loopholes" or "tricks" to violate the "spirit of the law" when it comes to observing Jewish law. No, they're following Jewish law. All ways in which one can follow the law are equally "in the spirit of the law" because the law's purpose is to be followed. The idea that finding easier ways to observe religious rules means "tricking" god or doing something otherwise shameful is reflective of Christian philosophy. Suffering is not virtuous in Judaism. Penance is not the purpose of Jewish law. Judaism is meant to enrich the current lives of its community, not ritualize hardship for some unknowable divine purpose.

It says in the Torah that the purpose of Jewish law is for us to live abundantly, that it won’t be too hard or too distant/inaccessible, and that the Torah is not in heaven that we should have to retrieve its meaning from elsewhere—it’s in our hearts and in our mouths. Basically, yes the Law was given by G-d, but it’s ours to apply as a people, not something we have to consult heaven on. It belongs to us. and if aspecific work around helps us live abundantly and keep the law, then it is in fact a faithful application of its spirit.

idk that there are zero ways to achieve some kind of surface-level compliance in a way that misses the point of Jewish law, but making the rules stifling or unnecessarily difficult for the sake of “the spirit of the law” is itself against the spirit of the law.

The reason your fantasy pantheon doesn't feel authentic is because you're starting from the wrong end. Real-world polytheism is syncretic – just deities from neighbouring cultures getting smashed together at high speed and leaving it for nerds with too much time on their hands to figure out how it makes sense. You are yourself a nerd with too much time on your hands. Don't start out asking yourself what domains make sense together. Pick domains at random and work backwards to invent a theology and metaphysics whereby of course the god of war is also the god of baked goods. What kind of silly question is that?
