Rachel eyed the girl for a moment there was something about her that radiated darkness, whatever it was she didn’t like it. It wasn’t like how Levi or Lucifer made her feel it was something darker and sinister to her that she didn’t really want to be around. “Pretty much” She mused while watching the other as she seemed to take a hard look at whatever was going on. She didn’t want to be found out by a demonic force this early in the morning. “Can’t say we’ve ever met, I’ve met a lot of people in my life but your face isn’t familiar to me” She mused looking at the other she wouldn’t volunteer any information to someone she was unsure without it.

“huh, must just be me. sorry bout that” she shrugged the other girl’s words off and decided to not pursue it any further. she was probably just mistaken, but she couldn’t shake the feeling that somehow this girl was familiar -or at least her energy was familiar-. “sorry, uhm, i’ll get out of your hair. you were probably going somewhere rushing around like that.”

levi couldn’t help the chuckle that escaped her at the girl’s attitude. she finally turned her focus on the girl, noting that she was a halfling. “for fucks sake, can’t anyone keep it in their pants these days.” she rolled her eyes, sipping at her coffee “hmm, well thank you for the delightful little lesson but what in father’s name could i possibly want from you?”

what was with all these weirdo’s seeming to gravitate around her as of late?! it was really becoming a habit, and orion was already sick of it. “you’re the one that was staring. you tell me” she scoffs, fetching her coffee finally.

Charlie wrote down the name Orion Hale and 9/18 onto her legal pad before nodding encouragingly for Orion to continue. “You’re quite a ways away from San Francisco now,” she replied as she wrote down Mercy’s. Even if the orphanage was no longer standing, she could at least find records of its being in newspapers and the city registry. If she was lucky she might even be able to find someone who might’ve worked at the facility around the time that Orion was brought in. “How long were you at Mercy’s?” she asked. “And, if you don’t mind me asking, how did you end up kicked out?” She needed as much of a detailed background on her client as she could get if she was going to locate her family. Sometimes that meant asking personal questions like this. “Whatever you tell me here today stays between us,” she reassured the girl. “If I do find any of your family members, I won’t engage them or tell them about you. I’ll leave it up to you to decide what you want them to know, if anything.”

“yeah, san francisco was really something.... think i prefer it here to be honest. fast paced is my sort of thing” she tells the investigator, tucking her bangs back behind her ear. “i stayed at mercy’s for... 3 year i think. got kicked out cause of behaviour.... i didn’t really stay anywhere i went for long to be honest”.

she had been that problem child that everyone didn’t want to have to deal with, so she would just be passed onto the next home who would take her. but the kids were always scared of her eventually so it never ended well. “hopped from place to place, ran off, got in trouble with the law a lot then dragged back to the homes. when i was old enough to leave, i did. got out of there hella quick”

Belphegor shrugged. “I don’t usually hang out in alleyways actually. Do you? I’m usually asleep by now.” They frowned. They wished that they could sleep, but they couldn’t risk the damage they might end up causing. Besides, they weren’t the one in the wrong here. They were pretty sure she might be. “You were hanging in the alley first,” they pointed out. “And I do know that chloroform is used for more than nefarious reasons. I was there when it was just a pesticide. I was one of the first to make it something more interesting.” Simpson was credited with its medical purposes, but Belphegor always had a habit of experimenting with strange substances. “But you don’t sound like you were using it for anything good. Lucifer might get mad, so you should be careful.”

just who the fuck was this woman? talking all about how they were there when chloroform was just discovered as a pesticide. clearly she was delusional. nobody living now would have been around then. not looking like she did. just when she thought it couldn’t get any wilder though, she spoke about ‘lucifer’ getting mad at her for doing what she was doing.

“lucifer. like the devil? yeah nice joke but you sound like a complete wahoo talking all this crap” orion scoffed, crossing her arms over her chest. “if heaven and hell were a thing i’m pretty sure that i would be in hell right now. but here i am... still here.”

Rachel was on her way towards her store, one of her employee’s had to call in sick which she didn’t mind as she didn’t mind coming in. She was in the middle of sending off a quick text to Zatanna seeing if she possibly wanted to do lunch since she’d be close by when the other girl seemed to take a step back simply by just being near her. Truthfully it was a normal reaction she’d received since plenty of people seemed to know who she was but then she’d never met this girl before her before shrugging “It happens, its alright, I wasn’t really paying attention either.”

looking the other dark haired girl over, orion felt a prickly chill run over her skin. she seemed sort of familiar, but at the same time she was sure she had never met her before. the dark haired half-demon pulled her bag up her shoulder and adjusted her jacket before sighing. “i guess we could both take some of the fault, call it even” she jests before her brows furrow.

“i know this might be weird, but do i know you from somewhere? you seem familiar...”

levi had been flying somewhat under the radar since lucifer had put him in charge. not many demons recognised this form, he hadn’t really used it since right after the fall—levi wanted to put some distance between himself and what had happened in the war so he pretended to be someone else. only a few of his, well… now her, most trusted lieutenants knew that she was around like this. her style of leadership was different that lucifer’s— where he wanted to be the centre of attention, levi wanted to keep a lower profile… keep the demons on their toes. she had been having a telepathic conversation with one of her inner circle, zorith, when the woman spoke to her. “is it? hmm, i had no idea.”

“surely you’re not that stupid,” the dark haired half-demon narrowed her eyes, shaking her head in disbelief of what was happening. was this woman really that oblivious or was she just being a sassy little bitch to her. orion didn’t really care which it was, all she wanted was her damn coffee. what was taking them so long?!

“well in case you are, then here’s a little lesson for you. yes. it’s rude to stare. did you want something?”

Belphegor eyed the woman suspiciously. They didn’t recognize her or anything, and they were pretty sure they had never met her before, even though they didn’t often remember the names of all the demons they met anyways. Still, that sense of something demonic was there, and if that was the case, her making trouble could’ve led to some more bad consequences for their family. They didn’t want anyone else getting banished.

“Maybe you should be more careful about where you have your conversations when they sound so suspicious.” They shrugged. Belphegor wasn’t overly concerned about seeming rude anyways. As a prince of hell, they already had a bad reputation anyways. It was easier to not bother with trying. “You said something about chloroform and dropping it off somewhere. You should really be careful about that. If I can overhear you, other people can too.”

“maybe you shouldn’t be hanging around alleyways expecting not to hear that sort of thing” she retorted, her hands curling up into tight fists by her sides, shadows shifting nearby, gathering and coiling in reaction to the rude interruption from.... whoever this person was. “and you do know, chloroform is used for more than the nefarious reasons you probably have in mind. it’s used all the time for perfectly normal things,” she defended her stance, despite her words being a total lie.

yes chloroform could be used as a solvent for stuff such as floor polish and lacquer, but that’s definitely not what her client wanted it for. but to be honest it was none of her business what they used it for, she was just there for the money.

Charlie could see the young woman was nervous as she took a seat across from her. This was normal; plenty of people came in with their nerves on edge. It wasn’t easy asking for help and by the time they reached her doorstep they were usually desperate for answers. Charlie sat patiently as the young woman explained why she was here. Lost families. Charlie preferred these cases to the infidelity ones if she were honest. “I can definitely help with that,” she nodded as she pulled out a legal pad from her drawer so she could take down notes. “Tell me a little bit about yourself,” she asked. “Your name, date of birth, any other names you’ve gone under,” she suggested. “And, if you can remember, the name of the very first home you were taken to would be good places to start.”

orion leaned back in the chair, waiting for the woman to gather all of her things she needed for the start of the investigation before she cleared her throat. “alright, well my name is orion, orion hale. birthday is a bit of a fuzzy one, but the birthday i was given was the eighteenth of september,” she told the brunette, thinking back to the awful places she was subjected to live in throughout her life and finding her face turning to a sneer...

“first place i was.... oh yeah, that was mercy’s. in san francisco. not sure if it’s still around, never really cared about that place after i got kicked out.”

Belphegor was going out more now. Normally, they just stayed confined within their own home, sleeping as much as they could and living up to their title as the sin of Sloth, but lately, they couldn’t sleep. At least they weren’t willing to try anymore. Angels didn’t need sleep exactly, but Belphegor’s body had gotten use to the habit. It was almost like experiencing withdrawal of some kind of drug, which was actually what Belphegor had turned to instead. If they took enough of the right kinds of drugs, their sleepy nature was easier to push to the side. While they were out wandering around, they heard a slightly strange conversation, and once they got closer, they recognized something familiar. This wasn’t just any human. There was something demonic there too. “What are you doing?” she asked.

just about to continue on her merry way, the ebony haired young woman was interrupted before she could. normally she would just dismiss anyone making any comments towards her, but this person... something about them made goosebumps rise up on her skin.

“huh? what’s it to you? don’t you know it’s rude to listen into other people’s conversations? what did you hear?” she narrows her eyes, staying cautious in case she needed to hush this eavesdropper swiftly. she couldn’t mess up a job. not one like this.

Charlie looked up as she heard someone at the door to her office. She was still recovering from the events of the body swap. A good portion of her energy had been depleted trying to keep Cupid’s wound contained. She still had flashbacks to that night, but she didn’t like to think about it. The more she thought about it, the more restless she became so instead she focused on work. She’d taken on a few more cases here and there. Mostly cheating spouses, but at least it kept the lights on. She hoped that whoever was at the door at least had something more substantial than an extramarital affair for her to look into.

Charlie placed a few files in a large filing box as a young woman entered the room. “Hello,” she smiled. “You’re in the right place. I’m Charlotte…well, Charlie. I haven’t gone by Charlotte in a long time.” She gestured for the woman to have a seat. “What brings you in today?” she asked “How can I help?”

okay, great start. she hadn’t fucked up and went to the wrong room, that was a relief. now she just had to get through explaining what she wanted from the investigator. orion stepped fully into the small office and closed the door behind her, letting the two of them have the privacy that they both saw fit. she wandered over to the woman’s desk and sighed, taking a seat as she thought of how to put the task forward to her. she decided that simple and to the point would work just as well as anything so got straight to it.

“i’m wanting you to look into my family, i was dumped at a home when i was a kid and need some answers. i tried asking around myself but i got nowhere. clearly it needs a professional touch... you up for it?”

another job well done, orion confidently headed down the street, a light smirk gracing her painted lips. some people just made it so easy to swipe from them and disappear before they even realised they were missing anything. it made making a living out in the city much easier for the young woman. as she turned onto madison, she didn’t expect to run right into someone else, someone that felt strangely familiar. of course orion immediately took a step back, looking over the other woman with narrowed eyes.

“sorry, guess i wasn’t looking where i was goin’”

all she wanted was her coffee. it was too early, and her patience was already wearing thin after a little falling out with her fellow housemates about a failed job. if you didn’t hold up your end and earn your keep then you need to be kicked, that’s just how it was. so when she saw some guy glance her way for a moment longer than people normally would, the half demon couldn’t keep quiet.
