"Some people say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one" ~John Lennon Having vision is one thing, but pulling together the right partners, to make it happen is where the rubber hits the road. HOW WE ARE MAKING IT HAPPEN Yesterday was Carnival Monday and it was the perfect day for our team to sit down, collaborate and map out of what could be the future of something epic and unprecedented? #1 We arrived early for our own meeting #2 We worked for hours, looked at the possibilities, made outlandish and impossible request, drank some 1919 rum, coconut water ate Roti, asked for a 2nd and 3rd opinion, checked facts, scrapped ideas, added others, considered the other side's perspective, planned for disaster, designed a mitigation strategy, kissed babies, had jokes, laughed too loud, was in awe of what we dared to dream. Looked for ways to make this work for everyone, punched holes in our plan, fixed it, put our ego aside, let others speak, vote, challenge, cry, listen, listen, trust each other, defer to expert experience, ask question to make sure we understood, challenged our own assumptions, put aside our beliefs and doubts. Listened to hip-hop, soca, and baby tunes, played with babies, took breaks, kissed babies, asked babies to vote, made fun of each other lovingly, told stories, got vulnerable with each other, ate home made banana bread, cried, got back to work, ok maybe some more liming before work, washed dishes, walked a cat, put our thoughts on paper, used google docs, wrote in walls, white boarded things, used sticky Notes, changed baby diapers, discussed strategy, worked collaboratively, disagreed, apologized, focused on what we do best, played to our strengths, made room for others, held and kissed babies, started using iBooks Author, discussed how best to present, gave each other space, Breast fed babies, laughed, knew people would be upset, and chose to move forward anyway, practised grace, shared notes, kept things open and transparent, shared google drives, created folders, discussed money openly, hugged and and 8.5 hours later made sure everyone got home safely. This is what commitment, leadership and teamwork looks like in action (at Wedge15)
