Like, yeah, Dabi's massively flawed and fucked up. That's the fucking point of him. But people have been misreading him for years, superficially accepting anything he says out his mouth when he denies his ties to the League, treating him like straightforward narrator when he's clearly emotionally disturbed and distraught.

And it's really this lack of sympathy or wanting to attribute the concern or understanding we might for "better" victims, which Dabi isn't, that continuously feeds into misreading him as callous and a manipulator. Sure he's capable of that, but that's only part of him.

I can't find it, but like right after Hawks killed Jin and Dabi went ballistic on him, I basically said Hawks's emotionally stuntedness, which is due to his own trauma and institutionalized upbringing, is what made him think Dabi wasn't upset about Jin dying, or not upset in the "right" way, or for the right reasons. I'll try to do a deep dive on stuff I wrote around the time, but we're really seeing here that a lot of fandom adopted this attitude of "Dabi doesn't show his emotions how we want therefore!!!", but as we can see here, through his actions... He cares. Even if he doesn't want to, or doesn't think he does, Dabi cares enough to "free" Toga from the chains and trauma her childhood represent. Much like he wishes to burn and destroy all Endeavor was and is, he extends his own power to help free her of that burden, too. This is a very powerful sort of action, and there's malice behind it.

It's a trauma survivor seeing another trauma survivor and extending a hand, as if to say, "This is how I moved forward. Maybe this is how you will too."

The League is full of survivors. Outcasts. Society's rejects, the oppressed. That's the entire point of them. That's why Jin called them his home, because he couldn't find another one.

If you can't see the League as victims and survivors acting out in their pain and grief, you miss the entire point of their narrative.

I'm glad Dabi's proved a lot of you wrong.

so actually when I first got into bnha they were one of my favorite ships at first specifically bc I loveeee atsuhiro but I have a fear of writing new characters in depth so the fic is an Experience

don’t quote me on canon bc I haven’t read anything recent of the manga BUT I genuinely think they have that compatitibility I think atsuhiro could bring out some spontaneity in kurogiri, while atsuhiro could learn to be a little more honest with kurogiri by his side. also their aesthetic as a couple is !!!! so classy and charming...

I've had a vision. Kuropress Parent Trap AU, with Tomura and Himiko as the twins. This doesn't really make sense, but I want it anyways. For the sake of plot, let's say Tomura and Himiko aren't identical twins but they look hella alike, and quirks exist. So she can drink Tomura's blood to look like him and Tomura is just really good at impersonating her. Anyways, Kurogiri is a bartender in California who raised Shig, and Compress is a famous magician who raised Himiko. Add onto this if you want!

This doesn't really make sense, but I want it anyways is both a mood and a power move. So much respect. But yeah I agree, I think we can make it work! Toga has her quirk, and Tomura is just ... a fucking theatre kid who is an acting legend. He just dies his hair blond and he’s good to go. Just like in the story, they both meet in a summer camp, they do the prank war and everything (oh my god ... can you imagine ... a prank war between Tomura and Toga ... that would be so brutal ... they have no chill). And then, they two the switch thing!!!

This would be so fucking chaotic. Honestly, their switch would work for a while because they have the except same chaotic feral bi energy so Kurogiri and Compress would both be like “yep, this is my child” for a long ass time. I also don’t think that we need a Meredith character in this, I honestly always found her to be kind of unnecessary in the movie anyway, I feel like Kurogiri and Sako’s awkwardness is enough of an obstacle for the drama. Or we can just say that Compress is a little of a player, I feel like that’s enough. This way we still get the iconic scene of Compress about to kiss someone in the elevator before seeing Kurogiri just standing there and waiving at him XD

Also I’m ... sorry for the shigadabi brain rot BUT LISTEN ... consider this. Dabi is Toga’s best friend at home with Kurogiri, they’ve known each other since they were kids and they’re like siblings. So when Shig comes home to Kurogiri pretending to be Toga ... oh boy ... >:D ... Dabi is VERY confused, because he was never ever attracted to Toga in any way but something about her is different since she came back from camp. He is the first one to notice it, he sees the little things, and he suddenly starts to have feelings for her, which is VERY confusing. Meanwhile, Tomura is FREAKING OUT because this goth neighbour is very cute. He likes him a lot, and he seems to like him as well but he thinks that he is Toga, so Tomura convinces himself that Dabi is just in love with Toga AND WE GET ALL THE ANGST AND THE YEARNING ...

But of course, Dabi learns the truth eventually. He is the first one to figure out what’s going one and he IMMEDIATELY gets on board with the shenanigans and help Toga and Tomura to organise the reunion. The rest of the LOV is probably around as well (either on Sako’s side or Compress’s side). Eventually, the whole group meets at the hotel for the reunion, and they organise the whole boat date and Kurogiri and Compress are like “wow not only did we get back together but we also adopted a bunch of kids in the process???”

And of course, we get that dramatic ass scene at the end where Kurogiri goes home and Compress is already waiting for him like “I’m not letting you go this time” and they make out and everything is great.
