Magic for Humans: Fake ?
Yesterday, after a long and endless search for a movie or tv show on Netflix, I stumbled upon a show that you may have heard of: Magic For Humans.
Just out of curiosity, I decided to watch one episode. I started with the fourth one from the first season. In this episode, Justin Willman achieves to make somebody believe they are invisible.
It was absolutely hilarious! And enough for me to watch another episode and another and another...
But many times during the episodes I was wondering : “Wait.. Is this real? Can it be real?“
Obviously, I know magic isn’t real... But the tricks Justin Willman was performing seemed impossible and...fake.
One trick in particular caught my attention: when he makes his wife appearing out of an empty bag.
I paused the episode, went on the internet and without suprise, I realized that I was not the only one questioning the trick's authenticity. Did he use CGI ? Were they actors? Is this magic?
On Reddit, you can find plenty of threads blaming Justing Willman for using camera tricks. But on the other hand, Justin Willman assures that no CGI, actors or camera tricks are used in the show. He even replied to some of the accusations on Reddit.
But then what? Do we take him at his word?
Of course, the best way for Justin Willman to prove that no artificial effects were used would be to explain how his tricks work. But that would break the magic, if we chose to believe in it.
And this is the whole point. Believing.
If you open Netflix and click on Magic for Humans thinking that camera tricks or CGI are used, you won’t have a good time watching it.
But what if we just decided to give our skepticism a break? What if we just sat on our couches and decided to trust Justin Willman?
I decided to do just that. When I watch Magic for Humans, I am amazed by the man's talent. What I see is a passionate person who did such a great work that many people believe is fake.
And that is my choice. I decided to trust him and the show blows me away!
I understand that some people just can't ignore that voice in their head saying that all is fake. I get it. It’s hard to believe in magic on TV. And it’s even harder when it’s made out on the streets rather than on a stage. Because we want to be amazed my magic...but not too much.
I think that Justin Willman is bold and that it must be hard for him to see so many people questioning his work. But I understand you, it’s how we function. We have doubts and we don’t want to believe everything we see.
Now if you want to watch the show just to spot where CGI might have been used or to evaluate the actors' skills, you should just look for another TV show.
Whether the show is fake or not, Justin Willman is tricking you one way or the other. You just have to pick a side.
