“Do you love me?” Her voice was a whisper.

“What’s the difference?” he asked. “It won’t change anything if I do.”

“It changes things,” she whispered. “It changes everything for me.”

“I guess you’ve dumped two of their brothers, if we’re really counting, who’s next? Ty?”

He knew immediately he’d gone too far. Her face went very still.

“Screw you, Julian Blackthorn,”

She couldn’t speak. Instead, she traced her fingers clumsily across his back, writing out what she couldn’t say aloud, as they had for so long. A-T L-A-S-T, she wrote. A-T L-A-S-T.

“Emma is my parabatai,” he said. “If you ever speak to her like that again, there will be blood on the floor of the Sanctuary, and I do not care if they put me to death for it.”

She managed to smile at him.

Jace didn't realize he was jealous of Simon because he'd never had a crush before or loved someone like he did Clary. So he had no idea that he was jealous of Simon, because he'd never felt it before.

But Isabelle knew.

“I can see you, and I want you, but—we can’t. If we do, we’ll end up falling in love, and that would be a disaster.”

“Falling in love,” Emma echoed. How could he not see she was already fallen, in every way you could be?

And there is Jules. You might like him the best. He is the one who takes care of us all. He is the reason we’re all okay and still together. People say we’re unlucky because we don’t have parents. But I think they’re unlucky because they don’t have a brother like mine.

In normal circumstances I would totally bet on Jace, but always remember Emma is a savage lady (who knows everything about her idol, including all his weaknesses)
