PARENTIFIED HUNTER BAD BATCH (eldest sibling curse)
There’s an extreme that i've noticed throughout the community where people often just reduce him down to 'omega's father' and that's it, that's all they talk about and all they see when they see him: like there's nothing wrong with him being a father figure to her but that's not all he is, that's not his only purpose as a character, he's also an older brother, a younger brother, a leader and a severely flawed person, no one talks about his actual CHARACTER enough, and when they do they just talk about his relationship to omega and how much he stepped into that 'father' figure role, which somehow explains his WHOOLE character in a nutshell ??? they never expand on anything else, they never exclude his relationship with omega when talking about him because that's all they see and notice.
he cares so deeply for those around him and wants to be the best he can be to his siblings, he pressures himself so much to make sure that he's living up to his role as a leader, he forgives others but doesn't forget while never forgiving himself, he doesn't trust others outside his squad easily because everything that he does is FOR his squad, he's attentive, smart, caring, loyal, an EXTREMELY good and very capable leader, quick thinking but hesitant, owns up and learns from his mistakes, puts others first, did i mention smart ?? no one actually talks about how good of a leader he actually is, there have been so many times where i've been watching tbb and he does something that genuinely makes me realise all over again how he's such a smart/good sergeant, like he's not only omega's 'father' don't fatherfy my man like that plssss!!! he's more than a father ty, all he wants is to keep those he loves safe.
"i love hunter so much as a character! he stepped up to be a father figure to omega and dedicated the rest of his life to being her dad!" yeah but like...
what about when he saw his brother actively twist on his own siblings and had to make the executive decision to either stay for his brother and put his squad in danger or leave his brother behind but keep his squad safe in like under a minute? orrrrr when he gave Crosshair several chances to come back even after he tried to kill them several times but he STILL offered him a place orrrr when he constantly made sure the squad was a democracy and everyone had a say eg; when Tech was INSISTENT on rescuing Crosshair, Hunter never held them back, he mever made his call the final call, never made his personal feelings towards him more important than the majority, orrr when he kept himself together after Tech's death for his squads sake orrrr when he picked up those 3 abandoned cadets and gave them a home when he could have easily left them orrrr when he constantly owned up to his mistakes and never repeated them orrr how attentive and observant he is when it comes to taking care of those around him etc i could go on tbh
YES! YES! YES! YES! Thank you! Hunter makes mistakes, but he makes the best decisions he can in every situation. He never makes a selfish choice at any point in the show. Everything he does is for the sake of his family. Omega is the weakest part of that family (don't hate me, she's small and barely trained), so as the leader, he is responsible for her. But he's so much more than just her devoted guardian. He is everything the head of a family, an oldest sibling, and a military leader needs to be for the people he is responsible for, and he doesn't get nearly enough respect for it.
Remember: Your focus determines your reality.
“The dark is generous, and it is patient. It is the dark that seeds cruelty into justice, that drips contempt into compassion, that poisons love with grains of doubt. The dark can be patient, because the slightest drop of rain will cause those seeds to sprout. The rain will come, and the seeds will sprout, for the dark is the soil in which they grow, and it is the clouds above them, and it waits behind the star that gives them light. The dark’s patience is infinite. Eventually, even stars burn out.”
