Seriously!?  No wonder the treatment of the character perplexes me.  I thought he was the model of gregarious self-restraint.  Sure, he drank some and gambled and made love, but there’s no story of him being an addict (not really even when he had good reason to be), no indication he couldn’t pay his debts, and one sexual partner in five years is hardly the work of a libertine.

This is interesting.  It seems like a kind of blur between what we are literally shown and what we are probably supposed to imagine.  

He did not get an ‘addict’ story like Garibaldi and Franklin, but we see him drinking to solve a lot of of problems early on.  He’s given that ‘wine, women, song’ password which doesn’t seem to surprise Adira.  Speaking of, we didn’t see him with anyone but Adira, but he is an obviously frequent patron of B5′s strip club.  Are we maybe supposed to infer that he ended up with Adira because he had a habit of taking random strippers home?  

I have a feeling I’m going to think about this a lot.

looking through the b5 tags to scrape up other ideas but i feel like i’m just going to write everything in a nebulous pajama party timeline unless strongly steered otherwise

I find the bodyguard scenario really compelling.  It’s dripping with opportunity and possibilities.  If you stretch it out a little, it becomes really fertile ground for a ton of stuff about inter-species interaction, cross-culture interaction, and all the heavy crap those two are carrying.  I could write 8 fics that are just them talking about shit in a bed.  

 Not as many people looking at the Babylon 5 stuff as the Deep Space Nine stuff, though.

I was planning for all my posts here to be Garak and Bashir related, but cruising through Tumblr shows me that a lot of Garak and Bashir people also like my faves from Babylon 5, so I’m abandoning my idea of a single subject dumping ground and just putting anything else I find in my computer here too.  

Maybe I can finally unload some of this stuff.

Forgot I had this thing that no one follows me on.   I don't think tumblr is as useful to new users as it is to established ones.  There don't seem to be listings anywhere about what the limits are or anything?  So mostly I'm just screaming into the void here.

Which is well and good, I guess.  I had a lot of ideas when I started this, but none of them came to anything so I just made one post of actual content which no one could see and then nothing.

This was going to be just my Garak and Bashir dumping ground, but I'm thinking about posting other fandom shit on AO3, so maybe I can post relevant junk here too.

ROBOTS OR DINOSAURS?

I thought I was going to find a way to make this ask DS9 themed, and that there would this be a proper answer, but I'm coming up short. 

At first, it's 'Dinosaurs!' because Cardassians can be Space Dinosaurs. But then robots are also pretty good and space-related.  

How about Cardassian robots, though? We're so obsessed with making our robots look Human, but imagine Cardassian scientists making them and being able to hide all sorts of circuitry in the ridges.  You can rotate the forehead spoon away for the on button, each ridge adjusts something or is a key that it's to be interacting with a certain user or performs a certain task.  

Or it's like a CD player and you can play, pause, and skip tracks. 

Thus, the answer is Space Dinosaur Robots.

I remember when I very first played Garak, I played him gay! I thought this would be great! He sees this young man, this young, very attractive doctor on the station, he is lonely, he is the only Cardassian there, this doctor is curious about him, and if you remember, this was a great moment because Sid totally went with it! When he comes up and he puts his hand on his shoulder, Sid did this great thing, it was this sort of an electrical charge that went through him and so I played him totally gay in that episode. Of course the producers did not actually tell me not to play him gay but then they started writing him a little more macho and more like a Cardassian. But I said, “Listen, one of the great things about Garak is that he is not Gul Dukat, he is not one of those macho, militaristic guys, he is your finesse Cardassian.” So we struck a compromise but I was always very clear. I did not get into it in the book. Quite frankly, I was going to go in that direction. I had written a whole thing about Garak’s sexuality because I felt that Garak was sort of - talk about bisexual, I think that he was multisexual, essentially that anything that moves is fair game for Garak. He has a voracious sexual appetite.
