Fletcher could tell something was up when he entered his house (the guest quarters of the Eaton Estate) and found his parents waiting in the front lobby. His house elf knew better than to let them in much farther than that, but it was their house by rights, so Grippy could only do so much.
He took a deep breathe and kept the groan in before continuing into the house. “Grippy, could you put the kettle on? But just for one.” He met their gazes, “They won’t be staying much longer, i’m sure.” Grippy bowed deeply before leaving the room. “What can I do for you today?”
Clarissa Eaton cleared her throat, “Fletcher, your reign of terror on this household has come to an end.”
His father glared while she continued,“Your father and I have decided that instead of continuing to allow you to slip into delinquency we are instead going to take a more active control of our only heir.”
Fletcher stopped moving around loudly, and started to actually listen to her. “What the bloody hell are you talking about woman?”
“You’re getting married.” She smiled brightly as Fletcher’s world started to crumble.
“The hell I am.” He snorted, trying to keep his facade.
“If you want to keep your inheritance and your grandfather’s trust, you will.” His father spoke up for the first time.Â
Connor Eaton had been the life and soul of his youngest grandchild’s life and when he had passed, the millions sitting in a trust fund really didn’t mean that much to him. But it did mean a lot to the six children and eight other grandchildren he’d left out of it. It was the last connection he had to his best friend and even the thought of losing it made him crumble.
As Fletcher realized the trap they’d set for him, his parents kissed each other with a small smile before leaving the guest quarters, “You have a date tonight. Be on time, won’t you. It’s not polite to leave your fiance waiting.”
