Getting To Know Each Other || Blainchel

“I thought that talking in person would be far more effective than online. We are neighbors, after all.” She pours the tea water in a mug and carefully hands it to him with a few choices of tea. “I like a variety, hopefully something here catches your eye.” Rachel goes about making her before sitting at the table across from him. She doesn’t really know him so this seems like the safest sitting arrangement, but it feels so informal and forced. She’s sure it’s just her overthinking and just sips at her tea and smiles brightly. 

“I’m doing well actually. I don’t have any classes tomorrow so I’m hoping to do some rehearsing and have some actual downtime.” She doesn’t want to say too much so she cuts herself off. “How about you? Have you picked up extra hours at the dentist office? I haven’t seen much of you lately.” She figured his job was pretty consistent schedule wise, but maybe a lot of people had been getting mouth injuries. “I hope that I am not interrupting anything too important.”

“It is definitely more effective. Unfortunately its what the society today has come to. I am a very old fashioned person though so I prefer face to face contact. He said looking through the teas, choosing a green tea. “:Thank you.” He said and started to preparing the tea with the tea bag. 

“Well I’m glad you are doing well, and I hope you get that downtime. Tell me how it is. I hardly ever get downtime.” He told her. “I’m great though, thanks for asking. No, if anything I am cutting hours. Family issues.” He sighed. He wouldn't give her that much information. He had recently gone to his grampus funeral in upstate New York. “No you are fine. I appreciate you inviting me.”

Rachel hurries to tidy up the kitchen once she knows her neighbor is on his way over. She had half expected him to say he was too busy to come over, hadn’t even thought much ahead on what they could do or talk about it, but they would figure something out.  Now she doesn’t have much time for anything then to make sure the kitchen looks acceptable. Deep down, Rachel knows that her apartment is in a fine state, but the hostess side of her tells her to tidy up. She wouldn’t want him to think her home was a mess.

When she hears Blaine come through the door, she smiles in relief, the tea kettle had just got done whistling. “Hi Blaine, it’s nice to see you again.” It had taken him a little longer than expected just to cross the hall, but who knows what he had been up to before her invitation. She finds Blaine to be very handsome, dapper, his smile makes her melt, but really she is just looking for a friend. Rachel’s big personality makes that hard for her, even out of high school, she’s come to realize. “I have coffee and tea, any preference?”

Blaine smiled at Rachel who was just taking the tea kettle off of the stove. He was actually quite impressed that she actually still used a kettle, not many do. “Hello, Rachel.“ He greeted. “Thank you for inviting me over. Nice of you.” He said looking up to her and looking around the apartment. It was pretty nice and clean. A lot cleaner than his. With his daughter and busy lifestyle his apartment was pretty messy. “Actually tea sounds lovely. Thank you.” 

He spoke up.  “So....How are you doing?” He asked nicely.

After he closed down his laptop he quickly went to his iPhone which was on the kitchen counter and texted his baby sitter, Jessica. He was fortunate to have a young woman that was always willing to come up and watch his daughter for how ever long he was away. It was helpful if he had to make a emergency run to the office for an appointment. She was such a great young woman, very nice and willing to play with his two year old. Unlike the babysitter he had before her. Jessica lived 5 floors down and she was available as usual. She arrived with her book bag after a few minutes and Blaine let her know that the daughter was snoozing currently but should be awake soon. 

After he quickly got dressed yo a sweater and blue jeans, brushing his teeth he went right across the hall to Rachel’s place. He knocked three times and came in. “Rachel? It’s Blaine!” He said closing the door to her apartment and walking into the kitchen area.

I absolutely will, My career is going to be just as iconic as Barbra’s. Theater is my forte but I wouldn’t say no to a movie role if it is fitting to my talents. I need to keep my options open, who knows when my big break will come. It has ought to be soon, I feel a change coming.

I guess I will see you in a few minutes, the door is unlocked so just come on in.

I watched the video you just posted and you are wonderfully talented, Rachel. If only I had that talent as well. I am sure It will be soon, Ill even help you get there if you need a dentist. Kidding. 

Okay, give me about 10 minutes. I need to change clothes.

I do have fans! I lead my high schools show choir to a national title and I have been posting videos on Youtube since I was 13! Ooh, so you’re a dentist, that is very important work! If you’re having down time how would you feel about coming over for tea, or coffee if you prefer?

Oh, okay. Okay but I am sure you'll have a lot more when you get in something. Would you do theater or film? Ohh okay, I should maybe check you out then! Yes I am! My office is down the street. Very important and rewarding. Oh, yeah, that sounds like a good idea. It would make more since to communicate face to face rather than internet.

I’m not actually famous, not yet at least! One day, Blaine Anderson you will see my name in flashing lights and maybe you will have the opportunity to say “I knew her when…” I am sorry that you are so busy, it’s a shame there isn’t more hours in the day. Do you at least have time to relax at all, it’s very important you know.

Oh okay. You said fans so I thought you meant you were famous now. Sorry! I was like wow I am neighbors to somebody famous! I kind of got excited, but still that is awesome. I love it though, my job brings me joy. Helping people get great, beautiful smiles and succeeding makes me happy. I have maybe a few hours a week, actually I am having one right now.

I understand being busy, but I would hate to keep my followers in the dark so I always try to make a little bit of time for my blog daily. I don’t want to seem neglectful of my fans or anything! How have you been? I feel as if I have missed you in the halls the last couple of days. I guess our schedules are not matching up as they had been.

I understand that. Oh, if you don't mind if I ask, how are you famous? TV, Film, or stage? Or a completely other reason. I have been alright, I feel like i’m always at the office or running errands, home for an hour then bed and then repeating the process.
