I remember a good while back, there was an ask that floated around about the possibility that Celine and the other Sunlight Sister had not only known about Rumi’s dad way before he and Miyeoung even became a thing, but have been very close friends with him as well (essentially the first Core 4 before HUNTRIX + Jinu). I don’t remember all of it, but I remember how much whump and angst material you can get from that.
I remember it mentioned how, at some point in the future (in the sequels), Celine (and the third sister if she ever becomes a character in the films) come face to face with Rumi’s dad after all these years. How for all those years, Rumi’s dad didn’t blame them for how things fell apart, how all this time he knew it was for the better. And how relieved and happy he was to finally see them again.
That is until he meets Rumi and she doesn’t even know who he was, which confuses him because surely Celine had kept pictures of him when he was still topside.
That is until hears Celine and the third sister confess to him the lengths they took to essentially erase him from their history, the lengths Celine took to sever his connection with Rumi by never speaking of him or even mentioning his name. He hears all of this and he feels a terrible concoction of sadness, guilt, anger, and loneliness. A sadness he hasn’t felt since before he met them. His friends - his sisters - choosing to forget him and all that they’ve been through together. Celine, someone who he had seen go from hostile to trusted ally, the ally he saw change her mindset on demons alongside the other girls, the ally he comforted after her break up, the ally who became his sister, having fallen back on old, outdated mindsets because of what had happened with Miyeoung. How after hearing all of this, all he could muster up as a response is “oh.”
Like, come one. The POTENTIAL HERE?? I know it most likely isn’t what they’re gonna go for, but the idea of essentially subverting expectations of what Rumi’s dad was to the other Sunlight Sisters, having the sisters + him be a tragic parallel to the Core 4 (with the difference being that the Core 4 actually persevere), making it so that Celine’s mindset about demons and hunting wasnt something she believed in since the beginning, but was something she relapsed into after already going through the whole “Not all demons are bad, some of them just need a chance” with Rumi’s dad. The potential of seeing him get hurt, and an old instinct activating within Celine and the third sister because “We can’t let him die, we can’t lose him again.” And vice versa.
Plus, the story potential with them in the present, having to learn to trust each other again, to rebuild their relationship, and the inevitable satisfaction of seeing them become a family again. Rumi finally getting to know her father, making up for lost time, and finally, for the time, having both a mom and a dad.
What do you think of that idea? What would your approach to it be if you went for something like this. Idk I just think it’s an extremely neat possibility!!
I actually REALLY adore this idea because I think it could be a great catalyst for Celine having a redemption arc (if she really is the reason/part of the reason Mi-yeong is dead and Rumi's dad is MIA)
Say the Sunlight Sisters all had a positive relationship with Rumi's dad. They might've shared meals, schemes, fights, stories, sadnesses.... all the good stuff that friends share. Then all the horrible things happen, Mi-Yeong dies, Rumi's dad either dies or goes missing, Celine and the remaining Sunlight Sister drift apart as Celine is left alone to raise Rumi. Maybe Celine learns to harbor resentment against Rumi's dad or starts to blame him for how everything happened. Maybe she starts to question why she ever trusted a demon to begin with. In her mind, she begins to think that trusting a demon is what led to all those horrible things happening in the first place...
Then 20 something years in the future, Celine sees her past reflected in Huntrix with Jinu. But this time, nothing bad happens. If anything, Jinu's addition has helped the Honmoon flourish. He saved Rumi's life. They're more effective together, since they're working on bridging the two worlds rather than dividing it. The girls have found their true purpose as Hunters.
Jinu might have to do something to prove himself to Celine. Having died for Rumi won't be enough, in her mind. Maybe Jinu is the reason Rumi's dad comes back into the picture. Maybe Celine, seeing him after all these years, embracing his daughter in tears, would allow her to find the closure and clarity she's so desperately needed for so long.
I think it would be super cool because, in some ways, Mi-Yeong isn't truly gone. She lives on in Rumi. So Rumi is the connection between the two. She's the one who can bridge the two groups together, and allow healing to take place.
There's a ton of angst potential in this. I REALLY hope that Rumi's dad makes an appearance in the future of the KPDH world.
