A família Sinclair integra uma antiga e respeitosa linhagem de bruxos de puro-sangue, a maioria dos quais se formaram na Escola de Magia e Bruxaria de Hogwarts, sendo tradicionalmente selecionados na Sonserina. Apesar das famílias Sinclair e Murphy sempre terem especulado detalhes de um casamento quando Robert e Amelia ainda eram bem pequenos, foi somente durante o período de Hogwarts que o sonserino escolheu a mais nova como sua namorada e futura esposa. A decisão foi tomada sem precisar de qualquer pressão de seus pais. Amelia era encantadora, a verdadeira princesa da sonserina, que logo começou a ser tratada como rainha ao iniciar seu relacionamento com Robert, durante o sexto ano dos dois. Mesmo rígido com as regras de Sinclair, a jovem conseguia encontrar as brechas e mostrar outras possibilidades de vivência, com amor, carinho e delicadezas. Somente ela conseguia arrancar sorrisos sinceros de Robert nos momentos mais inusitados. 

Ele a amava, com toda a força que alguém poderia amar um outro ser. Quando Amelia se foi por conta dos dementadores soltos na estrada, sua morte deixou um enorme vazio no patriarca da família Sinclair. A indignação pelo erro dos responsáveis por Askaban se misturou com a incredulidade do acontecimento. “She’s not dead”, repetiu por minutos a fio, enquanto aguardava as informações sobre a localização exata de seu corpo para poder aparatar. Ele não estava preparado para dizer adeus.
