the past week or so I have been thinking about “could you be happy with me?”
knowing that the answer is no because you are happy with somebody else. and I just want to scream about it and say that I was stupid and stressed and tired of life when we broke up but I know it won’t help. I was in the car earlier and I had the thought, at least this feeling will go away when I die in sixty or whatever years. and it actually made me feel better? so somebody analyze that I guess.
I am just… so confused. mixed signals. fire in the sky thats just street lights. pretending to smoke behind the shed in the muggy air and kissing on eighth floor by the door to the roof and thinking of love in cloudy purple colors right before I go to sleep. sitting in a circle of people talking about nothing. I want to talk about nothing with you (you!) but I don’t know how. and you said you felt this way but it seems like you feel that way and my legs hurt and my tongue tastes like chocolate. and it’s July.
Lovers of Valdaro
My teeth were getting crooked again, but I knew you’d Iove me when my jaw wasn’t straight. And you’d kiss me all the same. When the sun rose for the first time, I had your hand in mine. My fingers calloused and yours soft enough to break stone. Gentle enough to make it crumble like I do. I don’t care that we’ll never sing with these tongues again. I don’t mind that you’ll never see with those eyes again, and I’ll never listen to you breathing with these ears again. The tongues of the lilies on the roadside will sing of you and me. The eyes of the stars will look down on the hills we walked. The ears of the tide will listen to the sand breathing, again and again, always. And so we will be here forever. Holding on to each other as the world we have made spins. Holding on to what we have loved. This is what I want, even when my heart and lungs are gone. I want you. I love you.
I’m holding you in my arms. I’m saying goodnight to you on this pale morning. Before the ashen heat comes, we share a kiss. In the end, you look up at me like you always have. With those soft, soft brown eyes.

The butterfly likes to rest on my knee
The butterfly likes to rest on my knee, which is the patch of grass
That grows in the sunlight between trees
The hand, your hand, likes to cup my cheek
Which is the river washing away the shore
My eyes sit watching your eyes
Which are the stars coming out at night
And the blazing fire on my tongue
funny how the minute I felt happier because I was talking to her the clouds moved and the sky is blue now… signs and signals. considering becoming an astrology girl.

“The mind cannot fall asleep as long as it watches itself. Only when the mind moves unwatched and becomes absorbed in images that tug it as it were to one side does self-consciousness dissolve and sleep with its healing, brilliantly detailed fictions pour in upon the jittery spirit. Falling asleep is a study in trust.”
— John Updike, Self-Consciousness (via quotespile)
