Spring in New York
My four favorite photographs from « This Empty World » exhibit
Dear Photograph,
I am full of sadness looking at you... How many times did I walk around you? I can’t say. Maybe I didn’t realize, at the time, how amazing you were. It is always when you lost someone or something that you realize its value. French always had been very proud to have you in our beautiful capital. You were one of the most magnificent symbols of our country... Since last night, I see plenty of similar photographs as yours from my friends on social media and from different news and I am not here, here in Paris. Yesterday, everybody I know was there starring at you falling apart, praying that firemen could save you as much as possible. I have this unexplainable feeling of guilt that I am not present in this moment of national sorrow. I hope from the bottom of my heart that we could get you back almost identical one day.

Dear Photograph,
You are the view I see everyday when I woke up since my arrival in New York. Three months that you attract my attention every time I am thinking about everything I have in mind. My semester almost comes to the end and I will probably never see you again. I love your composition, first ground, middle ground and background. Your colors are always beautiful whatever the weather of the day or even at night with all the lights of this harlem neighborhood shinning. You help me to think, to concentrate about anything and it is a pleasure to have you and not only a house front with no view. Than you for all these things you give to me. I will, for sure, never forget you.
- Double Take 2 -
This photo is at the end of the driveway near the VIP Lounge. It was quite hidden. It really attract me at the exhibit but when I chose my five photographs I forgot this one. Actually I didn’t pay attention to it. We can see it’s an old photo. Young students sitting in the classroom. The days when schools were not mixed. These young boys make us travel back in time by their clothes and hairstyles. Their faces show us they are attentive and focused. I really like the colors of this photograph, it is soothing. I always loved the old pictures. As a child I often wanted to see and see the photographs of my grandparents and my great-grandparents. The curiosity of evolution and how it happened in a time other than ours.
- Double Take 1 -
I saw this photograph at the beginning of the exhibit. It was on the left of the window at the entrance. Like any discovery of a new place, I was very excited about the place and took a lot of pictures. At first, I didn’t pay much attention to this photograph, but then I realized that my parents took almost the same picture when I was a kid. So it made me travel through my childhood when I dreamed of being a singer and I played with my hairbrush to make a microphone. I had the same hair. This picture has a rock side. We can imagine the little girl dancing thanks to her pose and her shadow. The fact that she is shirtless exposes us to a certain freedom, the recklessness of youth.

Dear Photograph,
You are one of my favorite views. First of all your charisma is quite spectacular and very famous all over the world. Your architecture is incredible and your lighting is warm. Then, I love looking at people around here, sometimes you bring people together and sometimes you separate them. A lot of emotion comes and goes and it is amazing to watch. You are expressing life in a kind of way with some arrivals and departures and it is what life is about, departures and arrivals.
