As she heard his struggles about becoming a respected guard, her heart began to wrench in pity for him. Lucy assumed right that he didn’t fit into the role of a cell guard. She could not name it, but her conscious whispered he was one of the good guys. Yet, her logical mind argued that it was a mask. He would play the sympathizing, soft guard until she let her walls down. At her weakest moment would he strike with a ruthless whip.

"You don’t have to i-f you don’t want to" She didn’t need his sympathy or his kindness. It would only get him in trouble. God knows Natsu needed to get out of this dirt hole. Despite her cautious attitude towards him, she harbored no ill-intent towards him. In fact, he should run away from this place. A good man, dare she hope, like him should be running the police force and protect the weak. Not some scumbags who would exploit others in order to benefit their greedy hands.

Natsu shrugged. “It’s no big deal. It would mean more trouble if your wounds got infected or anything.” Indeed, Lucy’s cell wasn’t the most cleanest of cells, and it wasn’t uncommon for such a thing to happen.

He paused, suddenly realising that he’d been opening up a lot more than he should have. To a prisoner, too. Sure, the odds were that she was wrongly accused, but a prisoner… was a prisoner. Years of ruthless training had taught Natsu not to think of them as any more or less.

"You should get some sleep. Nothing else will happen to you tonight." Not while Natsu was around, at least, but no one really needed to hear that being said.

Natsu studied the compass in Gray’s hands. It had strange and intricate designs on it, not like the simple compasses that people usually used, and it didn’t look like it pointed North, either.
