scarlett smiles at the other and nods. she doesn’t really know what they are talking about but they seemed to enjoy talking about it so she just listened. “that all sounds pretty cool to me – i mean i don’t know much about that sort of thing but it sounds like you do”
blaire let a light blush fill her cheeks. shit, she’d talked the girl’s ear off, hadn’t she. ‘ sorry--- i get a bit out of control when it comes to this stuff. didn’t mean to confuse you. ‘
autumn always brought back fond memories for the eldest reinhardt. it was a time of change, first and foremost, from the slow transformation of the lush greenery into a crisp, warm array of yellow, oranges and browns, to the subtle beginning of the winter chill creeping in through the cracks in the pavement. the holidays were just around the corner; while it was never a grand celebration in the reinhardt household, and sure their thanksgiving turkey wasn’t the biggest and their christmas ham a 5-star gourmet meal, it was always a merry time. hudson made sure of it.
thoughts of gingerbread and pumpkin spice occupy his mind as he waits for his younger sibling, taking slow sips from his cup of caffeine. he’s instantly interrupted by his name being called by the girl in question, and a smile immediately breaks onto his face - one that was only brought to light when she was around. to say the reinhardt siblings were close was an understatement; he would go through hell and back for blaire, and he was fairly sure she’d do the same for him. “hey sunshine!” he calls, immediately standing up from his seat and taking the smaller girl in for a warm hug. “i already got your order, i figured you wouldn’t want to wait in line.” a hand pushes the still-warm cup next to his over to her side of the table. “so how’re you? how’s everything?”
just seeing her brother was enough to light up a bright grin on her usually neutral face. blaire’s brother was her savior, her superman, her one and only calling. he meant everything to her, and there was no doubt in her mind that he was fully aware of it. though, she knew that he felt the same way. they were closer than most siblings, but with their past, it was hard not to be.
the girl chuckled as he pushed her caramel macchiato across the table. ‘ thanks, bubba--- ‘ her eyes drifted towards the long line in front of the counter. ‘ ---you’re definitely right. ‘ she took a sip, letting the taste fill her mouth. ‘ it’s been good, the shop’s been a little slow, but other than that. everything’s fine. mom and her boyfriend took a two-day vacation to vegas or something, so the house is empty--- what about you? how’s the life of the eldest reinhardt? ‘
it was sunny for mid october, the air warm and inviting, yet it still had that autumn chill to it. everyone was out and about, enjoying the weather, prepping for the upcoming holidays--- usually, this would be prime time for blaire to be working, but when she got a call from her favorite, and only, brother, she immediately requested the day off. they’d planned to go get coffee, and that’s exactly where she was heading. poppy’s diner was just around the corner. the young girl, clad in her usual elbow-length flannel and ripped, black skinny jeans, picked up the pace, finally spotting the sign, lit up with autumn leaf lights around it.
she dove into the diner, a grin on her face as her eyes searched for her sibling. when she spotted him, she instantly darted to the table. ‘ hudson! ‘
He laughed and stuck out his hand as well. “Bentley.” He said as he smiled and shook her hand. “It was really nice meeting you and talking about music and such.”
“Oh yeah, of course— I absolutely love foo fighters and nirvana aswell.” He smiled at her and shook his head. “Sadly, no, I haven’t. But I really would love to come and stop by to make a few purchases to add to my collection.” He smiled again, wider this time. He was glad to see someone besides him appreciating the true art of music.
‘ that’d be great. my boss is always egging me about bringing in more customers. ‘ she shook her head, chuckling. ‘ i’m blaire, by he way. ‘ the short girl stuck out her hand.
‘ casset tapes are super cool but i agree with you. records were super interesting and i love their aesthetic. i wish they were still popular these days because everything is so digital. ’
‘ do you have a few records of your own at home or something? i mean, not to be a hypocrite, i do own some cossets myself, but i’m in love with vinyls. ‘
He laughed at the reaction of the people around them, but seeing her unfazed by them reminded him of her. “It’s quite alright- and I literally have loads, but my favorite ones are any of The Beatles to be honest.” He smiled and nodded his head. “You definitely have to take me sometime. I’ve been here for 2 years and not once have I ended up at that record shop.“
‘ a fellow beatles fan, i see. ‘ she teased, though she was glad to see their fan base was as loyal as always. ‘ i’ve got quite a few of them as well, but my collection consists mostly of foo fighters and nirvana--- wait, you’ve never been to heart and soul vinyl shop? damn--- well, if you ever want to stop by, it’s on the corner of third and chestnut. i work day shift, usually stay until late at night. ‘
Toddy sat on the steps and heard all the commotion from inside as the door opened. But when it closed it was muffled out and she liked it. She took a sip from her drink and looked at everyone that walked in and out. While she was usually the life of the party , tonight she felt a little different. Although she wasn’t opposed to talking to someone ,drinking with someone or even going in there and dancing ontop the bar, she hadn’t found anyone interesting yet. She toyed with the pack of cigarettes in her jean jacket and took another sip before looking up. “Crazy in there huh? Just another Wednesday night.” She chuckled and took another sip.
blaire chuckled as she saw the girl, an unfamiliar face, but not an unkind one. she herself had been a bit wary of the chaos i there, opting for the comfort of the front porch rather than the beer-soaked couch inside. it seemed she wasn’t the only one. ‘ yeah--- just another wednesday. ‘ she smiled, taking an awkward seat next to her. ‘ did you get the text? just the address, nothing else? i thought it was a murder scene until i pulled up... ‘
“Oh yeah, definitely.” Bentley said, nodding his head. “I totally agree. I actually have quite a few at my apartment.” He said, agreeing with the girl. He loves music and if he even hears the word, he rambles, and he definitely didn’t want to ramble now. “I mean yeah, casset tapes were good but records are amazing.”
‘ exactly! see, someone gets it. ‘ she exclaimed, a laugh bubbling after, though it died down as the people around began to stare. she glared at them all. giving her sight back to the boy in front of her, she gave a small smile. ‘ sorry, i kind of just exploded on you there--- but what records do you have? i kind of work at the record shop downtown, so my collection’s endless. ‘
‘ i mean, i get what they’re saying--- the old casset tapes were pretty awesome, but records were better by far. the sound quality was fucking amazing, and the aesthetic just made you love it even more! ‘
hey loves! i’m dani, 16, cst, she/her. this is my smol child, blaire, and i can’t wait for you all to meet her. you might know her older brother, hudson, so if you know his background, then it’s going to be very similar, just with a few kickers!
here’s a bit about her: (TRIGGER WARNING--- mentions of emotional abuse, homophobia, and self harm)
she grew up in a bit of a rough household, her deadbeat dad leaving when she was only seven, her family packing up and moving to dyer brooke soon after.
when they got to dyer brooke, her mom started seeing yet another douchebag guy, and to this day, he still rules the house. she can’t stand him, especially his homophobic tendencies
the couple years leading up to when she was fifteen, blaire was down in the dumps. her moms boyfriend had completely destroyed her self esteem, and it got to the point where she began to burn herself. she didn’t want to die, not completely, but she feared that if she didn’t do something soon, she wouldn’t be able to control herself. so, she told her parents that she signed up for a camp. she left for two weeks, but what they didn’t know, is that she was signing herself into a mental health facility. she forged her moms signature, used a fake ID, and did what was best
somehow, someway, hudson found out, and on her release day, he was there waiting for her. now, hes especially protective of her. she doesnt like to dwell on those days, even though now and again she finds herself feeling low. she likes to think that she’s stronger than that, and truthfully, she is
hudson moved out, leaving blaire, her mom, and her mom boyfriend to make it work. like that was going to happen, things got worse, mostly when blaire cut off all her hair and started wearing boy-ish clothes around the age of seventeen. her “step dad” hated it, shouting homophobic and sexist slurs until she put on a dress. she thought that was the end of it, but boy was she wrong.
it was her fault, she thinks. she shouldn’t have brought a girl over that night, and she damn sure shouldn’t have left her bedroom door unlocked knowing he was in the house. he caught blaire and another girl making out on her bed, clearing going to lead somewhere else. he snapped, freaking out and calling her a mistake. she couldn’t take it anymore. she ran away. though, they found her and put her on house arrest.
they (mostly her moms boyfriend) forbid her from leaving the house until she went to college, but she wasn’t ready for that. she got a job at the record shop, her only escape, and put a new lock on her door
she loves her mom, she really does, but the boyfriend has got to go
