what is that poem that talks about holding up the dark part of the night????
Idk seeing that the "pause" has been extended for two days I just can't stop thinking about the people affected by this the most
I mean imagine being in Gaza and really sitting there waiting to know if Israel will resume its ruthless bombardment of your city or if you're granted an extra day to continue counting the dead
The one word that came to mind when I saw the news was violence. The fact is, the manner in which this is done is in fact violent as it depends on prolonging the anxiety of the people of Gaza who are directly affected by this
While obviously we can feel some relief that the accelerated violence can be slowed down for two extra days, there is still the anxiety of what's to come and I just cannot imagine what it's like to live with this kind of looming fear
Palestinian poet Khaled Juma said it better than I ever could:
Two more days...
During times of war, the scale of time changes. In previous wars, when a truce is announce for three hours, you could not imagine what can get done during those hours, especially if you had prior knowledge about the time of the truce.
Scheduling those three hours was astonishing, as you would be able to fit what you would normally accomplish in one week of normal days, no exaggeration.
Two more days, that means two nights and two days which will be spent looking for any roots of life, water, cooking gas, flour, for everything that can be found and most importantly, people will have two more nights to sleep and have a relative feeling that they will wake up tomorrow... Oh god, when your dream is to simply wake up tomorrow.
"In my culture, we know death intimately. In Arabic, the highest expression of love is the phrase "ya'aburnee" Translated "you bury me" . It means "I love you so much, I'd sooner die than bury you". It was used by mothers in our lineage who were so used to losing their young in war. In my culture, we cannot talk about love without speaking death's name"

what form of gentle affection are you?
there’s a misconception that grief only happens when we lose people. this is not true. we can grieve circumstances, relationships, missed opportunities. in fact, sometimes when you find yourself plagued with waves of emotion from sadness to melancholy you may be grieving yourself. the version of yourself that you might have been if things had been different, or if only you had said something, or if someone had stood up for you.

tender quotes:
1. “The number of hours we have together is actually not so large. Please linger near the door uncomfortably instead of just leaving. Please forget your scarf in my life and come back later for it.” (mikko harvey, from “for m,”)
2. “I still feel like the world is a piece of bread, I’m holding out half to you.” (eileen myles)
3. “Wherever you are it’s okay. You can come back from it. Whatever happened to you down there, whatever the world looks like now, that’s not how it always looks. That’s not how it’s always going to look. There’s more. There’s always more.” (patrick ness, from “more than this”)
4. “I was making dinner and I got a message. Go look outside, she said, go look at the sunset. My apartment is small, with four rooms and two windows that don’t see much light so I had no idea. I pulled my coat on and hurried out. I was running to this sunset, suddenly the only thing that mattered. I hurried past the taller buildings to the park and the sky was leaking shades of pink and purple. It was beautiful and fleeting, there one minute and gone the next. I would’ve missed it; I almost kissed it. And so I started thinking, how great it would be to get a nudge, a tap on your shoulder, a moment or two before your life changes. Stop what you’re doing and look around, you’ll want to remember this later. In a minute, you’re going to fall in love.” (kelsey danielle, from “unexpected sunset”)
5. “Today is a day like any other: twenty-four hours, a little sunshine, a little rain. Listen, says ambition, nervously shifting her weight from one boot to another―why don’t you get going? For there I am, in the mossy shadows, under the trees. And to tell the truth I don’t want to let go of the wrists of idleness, I don’t want to sell my life for money, I don’t even want to come in out of the rain.” (mary oliver, from “black oaks”)
