The Alhambra was a theatre and music hall on the east side of Leicester Square between 1854 and 1936. Now, the Odeon cinema, host of many UK film premieres, stands on the same spot.

Just north of Oxford Circus is Broadcasting House, the home and headquarters of the BBC. Above the entrance is a statue of Ariel and Prospero, by the famous artist and typographer Eric Gill. This statue apparently provoked outrage, due to the 'anatomical exagerration' of the representation of young Prospero, and this outrage was sufficient to get the offending appending reduced for the sake of propriety. Eric Gill is also notorious for the frank nature of his diary, which revealed that he'd fucked his children, his sister and animals.
