“I wasn’t expecting you to have much. If anything, you can take the twenty gold I have in my pocket and buy whatever you need.” He said as he gestured to his coat’s pocket.
Twenty gold? Jay swallowed thickly and opened her eyes, staring at him in disbelief. Was he telling the truth? Was he saying this to get her to come closer? The young woman chewed on her bottom lip, “You do anything and I’ll scream.” She moved forward and gently patted down the coat before digging through the pocket - she was ready to yell for help if he tried to do anything.
Stuart slumped in his seat and waited for her to take the gold from his pocket. He raised his hands above his head to show he meant no harm. "Did you get my cane at least? I mean, I get that the point is to not move around much, but I feel safer with it."

Stuart blinked a bit. “Well, yes, I would love to know. I asked you, didn’t I?” He whispered as he let his hand rest on Murdoc’s waist.
“But you must know I wouldn’t tell just anyone.” Blatant lie. “What would you do for the privilege, hmm?” He wondered how far he could push this.
He brought his hand up to Murdoc's face. "You want me, don't you?" He asked quietly as he leaned in closer. "You think you have that privilege?" His eyes narrowed as his hand moved down to Murdoc's neck and started squeezing. "Why should I do something to get the privilege of a lowblood like you? Have you forgotten who I am?"

“Of course.” He nodded. “Okay, so what else is there? I’m not gonna judge, I promise. But I’m curious. I won’t tell a soul.” He grinned as he scooted closer to Murdoc.
He was tempted not to dignify that with a response, but after a second, he pulled Stuart forward by the shoulder and spoke lowly into his ear. “Wouldn’t you like to know?” He asked, almost whispering.
Stuart blinked a bit. "Well, yes, I would love to know. I asked you, didn't I?" He whispered as he let his hand rest on Murdoc's waist.

Stuart turned to face Murdoc. “So… You would actually like me spitting on you? I mean I wasn’t serious, but your reaction gave it away.” He raised a brow. “I mean I don’t think the whole idea is weird, what I find strange is that you’d be willing to be degraded by someone when you want to be in power.”
“I never said that,” Murdoc said quickly. “I simply wanted to know why you’d say something so random.” He honestly couldn’t tell if Stuart was flirting with him or just mocking him. Probably the latter. “You’re the strange one.”
"Of course." He nodded. "Okay, so what else is there? I'm not gonna judge, I promise. But I'm curious. I won't tell a soul." He grinned as he scooted closer to Murdoc.

“Of course. But you would probably love it if I spit on you.” He grinned and made a poor attempt of a wink. Don’t blame him, his eyes don’t work properly. “I think we’re good for now.” He said after sitting on the bed.
He had definitely been caught off guard by that. “What?!” He demanded, his eyes widening. Was that a joke or did he know? It had to be a joke, it had to be. Murdoc brushed it off and shuffled to the side of the bed so that Stuart would have more space.

“I actually would never wed a man.” He admitted. “It’s to spite my father. You’re worth nothing to me, I can always find better, or worse.” He shrugged his shoulders before walking back towards Murdoc. “Let’s make a deal. Since we both seem to need each other to an extent, we shall continue the marriage. But any decision you make as a king will have to get my approval.” He said and held out his hand.
Murdoc huffed, shaking the offered hand. “Yeah, whatever. I feel I should remind you that I can do better than you too. I wouldn’t spit on you if you were on fire.” Again, another lie. Stuart was far too good looking for that one to ever be true. “Anything else we need to talk about?”
"Of course. But you would probably love it if I spit on you." He grinned and made a poor attempt of a wink. Don't blame him, his eyes don't work properly. "I think we're good for now." He said after sitting on the bed.

He did hear the other, but decided to say nothing of it. “Perhaps I should tell the King to cancel the engagement and agree to marry a noble woman.” He said as he leaned against the window. “I’ll be able to give a proper heir, that would please my father much more than an useless marriage like this one.”
“If that’s the case then why did you accept my family’s offer? Cut out the middleman, wed some ugly broad and see if I care.” That was a lie. Murdoc would care a lot. He sat up after a thought. “Now, see, you don’t look like the type to just settle down with a lass.”

Stuart just sighed. “Maybe you’ll understand one day.” He got up from the bed and slowly walked towards the balcony.
Murdoc groaned and lay back, covering his face with a pillow. “Reckon it’s you who doesn’t understand, Prince.” The words came out mumbled, but perhaps that was for the best.

“Power will never be freedom. For twelve years of my life I lived on the streets and I was happy. I had children to play with, fun music to sing and dance to. Here you have to fake every part of who you are, to lie, to manipulate, to abuse, and in the end it won’t even matter in the end because you’ll always end up as someone’s toy. Before my father found me, I was free.” He sat down immetiately after he spoke. “So let me ask again: what is power over freedom?”
“It might not be freedom for you, but it is for me!” Murdoc’s voice grew louder, and he crossed his arms. “When you get to the top you can do whatever you want and every moment you spent learning to waltz for parties and the hours you spent writing letters playing nice people who don’t give a fuck about you is all worth it. People end up kissing up to you, and then you’re really free. I’m going to get that kind of power and you’re going to help me.”
Stuart just sighed. "Maybe you'll understand one day." He got up from the bed and slowly walked towards the balcony.

“This is why I consider royalty fucking idiots.” He sighed loudly and shook his head. “Ah well, can’t judge, I guess. You were taught that for years, weren’t you?” He rubbed the side of his face. “Okay, let me ask you.. what is power over freedom?”
Murdoc scowled. He wasn’t an idiot. “Power is freedom, Stuart. It’s all you really need in life and you won’t get anywhere without it. You can sit down now, by the way.”

“Behind the scenes, we can just be friends. In public we should at least pretend that we are a serious couple.” He suggested. He didn’t know if he wanted to be publicly intimate with the other. “Why did you agree to this marriage? First of all, I am disabled. I’m blind and constantly limping because of the pain in my leg. I’m pretty much a burden.”
“I want to get somewhere in life,” Murdoc replied, complete honesty in his tone for once. “I want to be remembered. And, really, if we’re honest, it all comes down to the money, doesn’t it? I’d much rather never getting married at all and shagging all the pretty girls in court, but here we are. If I can’t do what I want on my own, I’ll just use you.”

Stuart kept walking in the direction Murdoc guided him towards and offered him a small smile. “Then you can ask any questions you’ve been meaning to ask, and I shall as well. And if there’s anything more to add, we shall.”
“Fair enough, I suppose. If we’re to be married, how close are we going to be?” That was definitely his first question. He wasn’t entirely sure he’s be able to hold his tongue if Stuart was adamant about being like the kind of couple that had married for love, kissing and hugging all the damn time. The thought made Murdoc shudder.

“Possibly.” He mumbled as he carefully climbed the steps. “I suppose it is good that we will talk now than later.”
“There were a few things I meant to ask you when we first met but I didn’t really get the opportunity,” Murdoc told him, but it was really just a code for I was too scared.
“Oh, and that’s all the stairs.” He chuckled, gently pushing him on.
