undeadmessiah:
It was difficult not to notice the tension his question had caused, but Collin simply let it slide. Some people had reservations about the dead, even those among the dark temple. Still, it was a moot concern. Ghosts were rarely of great use without significant energy invested to make them more powerful. He already had wraiths under his sway, there was no need for more.
“My interest lies solely in the bodies, my dear friend. Our Lord has his claim on souls, first and foremost. I’d not dare to snatch them from his realm.“ Not without good reason, that is.
It’s a relief, at least for now. Perhaps Mercury’s branch of Inferum’s loyal were more gentle than Collin’s inclinations, but as the tactician understood, it took all kinds.
But, as he often needed reminding, the god would have a taste for things darker. The war wouldn’t hold him at bay for much longer. If Mercury couldn’t please Inferum in his own ways anymore, then it was likely Collin to lead on as peace withheld each test.
“Now. About that pilgrim’s suite.” Mercury pulled in a fresh breath, and with it, a better attitude. “It’s a long walk, as you well know. Feel free to light the way if you need it -- I’ll guide us through either way.”
