I’m learning just like everyone else, so if I need to be corrected…don’t hesitate. By corrected, I mean factually, not based on feelings and opinions.

I want to put this quote because it really made me upset. I know Boondocks is satire, but it’s social commentary disguised as satire tbf, and this episode got me.

I wanna add a different perspective. This isn’t sympathy, this is pattern recognition.

He’s saying this is what our political activists used to die from too, and instead of laughing and cracking jokes, we need to be prepared for what comes next. It wouldn’t be too funny if they were polishing guns and lighting pitchforks while we were cackling and making memes…they targeted hbcu’s right after he got shot and we laughing like shit funny. 💀

I think he should’ve left the top part out because it doesn’t matter that he never directly participated in anything, he was a stochastic terrorist. Full stop. Umar, of all people, should know what that is. Assuming he does, that means stochastic terrorism doesn’t count in his eyes. THAT would be the issue here, and that kind of terrorism could most DEFINITELY lead to death. Typing that wasn’t his most educated moment.

I hate that the only two animated creole villains I know of weaponized voodoo.

Weaponizing black culture is very much yesterday’s news. Sit and hear me:

Creole villain who’s redemption involves voodoo.

I mean think about! Having a spiritual disconnect can very much cause a villain arc, I’m a walking example💀. What if connecting IS the saving grace?

Not all creole characters gotta do voodoo, but If we’re gonna use the voodoo trope, be creative! I let it slide with Facilier because he’s my first favorite childhood Disney villain, but Alastor…there were a lot of things that had my eyes to the side, but the little voodoo doll minions had me over it 🫠 (I love them both dearly but cmon na)

I can’t even say the design is creative, this is surface level voodoo design. Symbols and dolls. Lord have mercy.

While I’m on the topic…supernatural and Chucky were HELLA disrespectful. It hurts I used to love those shits 😭

Side note: THIS is why we tell non kin-folk to leave our culture alone btw. Can’t even pick it up right smdh 🤣

How are we feeling about rap nowadays?

I’ve seen this discourse on tiktok and I wanted to talk about it because…I’m a bit tired now.

I’m only 21, I’ve been listening to modern rap for a long time now, and I’m just now starting to get tired. Im at my happiest when I’m listening to other black music, specifically RnB, blues, whatever Beyoncé was doing when she made Already and Black Parade. The only modern rap that hits me is Kendrick, maybe 2 JCole songs.

Obviously, it’s not entirely our fault, it’s what the industry pushes. There’s an obvious agenda, but if we all start paying more attention to black music with substance…maybe we could actually do something.

It’s hard for me to give up some of it, I’m not gonna sit and act like I’m perfect and completely gave it up. Megan, Doechii, Lizzo, Latto…they all got me in a chokehold. So do some of the male rappers like 21. I’m trying to will myself to listen to old school rappers like LL , my Queen Latifah, and Ice Cube, but I think a lot of my generation has internalized ageism in the rap community.

But I am proud to say, I weened myself off pretty well.

I’ve found I like specific songs from a lot of these rappers where they took some time to be real, even if some of the lyrics are still your usual rap shit. Like BXTP’s song Holy Ground, and So Supa’s songs Nope (1 & 2), Megan when she made her mental health songs, Lizzo’s recent album (especially CRASHOUT), etc.

I think we as fans can maybe steer the wheel in that direction by pushing that part of them more when they show it. Not like just talking about it for a week and be done, like get those songs higher than the rest! Put some numbers on those! Big X talking about how he’s bigger and better than everyone else should NOT be more popular than Holy Ground.

Some of these rappers might be fine with their content, but I think some of them are probably real hurt these raw songs don’t do as well as the bullshit they have to push to make money. I’ve literally seen people calling mental health rap cringe…We really don’t care about these people, and neither does the industry. We wonder why they’re all crashouts or on drugs.

I wanna be harsh on some of these rappers, like YB and SexxyRedd, but I had to say this before I do that. This is on us too.
