Pairing: Invisigal x Reader
Content: Angst, Maybe interest if you squint.
A/N: I wish people wrote fics for her more often. She is so much more than her choice in childish jokes.
She always found a way to piss you off. Robert sending the two of you to secure a building. But she just had to find a way to fuck it up. As usual.
Normally you give her the benefit of the doubt because everyone else gave her a hard time. She deserved someone who would understand. But every time she was lectured after messing up, and you tried to support her, she’d say “I don’t need your help” or “I have enough to worry about.”
You even tried to get her to go out for drinks once. Unfortunately, she declined rudely, which filled you with disappointment and annoyance, you just wanted to give her a safe space. It left you questioning whether you should continue to excuse her bad behavior.
Today you didn’t ask, you just took the blame for her. Hearing Robert’s lecture, one you couldn’t help but roll your eyes at. Having to give an ass kissing lie to him. Courtney giving you a look, but not saying thank you. Which only made you more irate.
Taking the blame for her? Never again. Having her back? Not anymore. This was the final straw.
Walking back to SDN quietly. A pout on your face as you walked back. Looking at her would only deepen your irritation. Zoned out when you hear a snap next to you.
“God.. who pissed in your cereal this morning?” She questions you. Taking in your state as she spoke. A glimmer of concern crosses her eyes.
“Are you serious..?” You give a scoff and pick up your pace. In return, she continues to follow. Trying to catch up with you. Finally placing her hand on your shoulder and before she can say anything, you put her in her place.
“You want to know who pissed in my cereal? You. You fucking did. Why? Because you do stupid shit! You’re such a fuck up I had to take the blame for you.” Your voice raised. Approaching her closely, huffing, your brows furrowed. Initially she seemed caught off guard, then hurt, immediately filling you with shame.
“You know.. I didn’t ask for you to help me. I didn’t ask for you to take the blame either, Sorry for being such a fuck up! Sorry I’m not fucking perfect!” She made sure you understood her. Crossing her arms, unafraid to respond to you.
“Courtney I..” Before you could continue, she phased, walking off. Running your hands over your face harshly. “Fuck!” You groan loudly. Swinging your foot to kick something, but your ankle cried at whatever it hit. Limping back to SDN to get rest.
Your head laid uncomfortably on the top of a plastic chair, staring at the ceiling of the break room. Finger tapping the table’s surface. Aching ankle rested on the other cheap seat. Hearing a scrape on the floor, letting out a wince as you lowered the ankle. Not bothering to look at whoever is there.
It was better not to, if it was her, it would just make things worse. You didn’t speak as you got up. Limping to medical to get patched up.
Hearing a couple noises behind you, just assuming it’s Robert to check on you. Gazing in surprise at the one person you thought wouldn’t be there in the first place, Courtney.
You open your mouth, blurting the words. “Courtney, I’m really sorry, the way I took things out on you wasn’t fair and you didn’t deserve that,” She waved it off. So you stopped talking. Seeing her take a seat on the bed next to yours.
Words leaving her mouth you never thought you would hear. “I need you to understand that I act the way I do because I feel like I can never be perfect, not because I want to be a fuck up,” She was serious with you. Watching her glare at the wall. “Everyday I tell myself.. I was meant to be a villain, and.. Blonde Blazer was meant to be a hero, it’s just how the stars decide our fate,” Courtney murmurs the last part.
You hesitantly place your hand over hers, “I’m sorry.” It comes out one last time. Meant to be there for comfort, one more way of saying you understand. Which she seems to be okay with, squinting at your hand on hers before gently taking it in hers.
Maybe there was a possibility that things could get better.
