Mixing It Up A Bit
Happy New Year my friends! Life has settled down a bit since the holidays and I have been mixing my sweet cottage up a bit. I really enjoy the Christmas holidays and they always seem to go a bit fast for me. But, on and on we all go into a new year, new challenges . . .

Christmas in the Sitting Room
Wow, thirteen days until Christmas. Time really does fly especially when you’re having fun. I have been truly blessed this Christmas season to enjoy my own little cottage. This is the first time ever for me and it’s been really fun to dream up just about anything I want to do to it as long as it doesn’t cost much. I have hosted a couple of Christmas parties this year and it has been fun to share…

Christmas Welcome
I can’t believe that it has been 2 months since I have last blogged. Time sure does fly. I have had a great time decorating my cottage for the holidays. I really wanted something different in my new home so I spent several months remaking my Christmas decor to fit my cottage and my new-found happiness. It’s amazing what a little paint, glitter and glue can do to make a huge impact. So if you want…

Welcome to Anne’s Attic – design! My attic (my attic being my mind that never stops creating) is chock full of ideas today. My sweet little Shabby Lane Cottage is ready for Fall and ready to help inspire you to decorate your home for pennies.
Re purposing, and Flea Market items is the name of the game here. Everything that I show you today has been refinished or torn apart and been made into something else. I have not spend a penny on any Fall decor but it is all beautiful, different or refreshed for a new season. This is my first Autumn in Shabby Lane Cottage so it really has been a joy to put all my decor away and start over for Fall.
Welcome to Shabby Lane Cottage. As you can see I have started honoring Fall with just a few natural pretties on the front porch, like a huge purple mum, basket of pine cones that I picked up around the neighborhood, and a lovely sweet potato vine that has been there all summer adds lovely color. When the season is right I will add some fun gourds and pumpkins to the front entrance.
Adding lovely wreaths to the doors of the cottage are always a welcoming treat. I was given a bunch of artificial gourds and pumpkins by my mom many years ago and I just repaint them according to my theme that I am using for the season.
This lovely wreath I put on theside door. I added vintage lace bow with some pink artificial roses that I dipped in some left over pink paint. I think that they are very striking with all of the autumn foliage. I reuse grapevine wreaths over and over again. Sorry it turned out kind of blurry.
The sitting room is the first thing that you see as you walk into my little cottage. This year I have added blue and the colors of autumnal foliage to my neutral decor. I love to see the bright blue sky against the lovely Fall mountians here in Utah it can be breath taking and it will be on it’s way shortly.
Changing out pillow covers is one of the easiest and cheapest ways to add the season into your decor. All of the pillow covers are ones that I made by hand except for the red truck full of cotton boles that I bought from Decor Steals.com.
Above, I laid an old vintage shutter over the two end book cases so I could display my lovely white wear.
This dressing table sure has seen a lot of paint lately. I stripped the rose wall paper that I had on the drawers and painted it a light grey and added black vintage knobs. In the next post I will show you what I did next!
I inverted a black wire basket to use as a endtable. I put one of my Madonna’s in the center.
I was really excited to get these tan buffalo checked curtains. They are really a fun look for fall and bring out the Country Farm charm look. I had to take the picture at night because of the light that floods in through the day. Oh, I love that light streaming through!
I have also been busy making stuffed pumpkins from old clothes. I used pebbles that I collected on my walks for weights in the bottom of them. Everything else I had so they didn’t cost me a penny. I made some for sweet friends as well. They make a lovely gift. Here is the post that you can click to see how I made them. They are soooo easy and you don’t need a sewing machine to make them, in fact they turn out better if you don’t use one. My sweet soul Sis brought me a bouquet of lovely Fall flowers. They are so beautiful here with the fabric pumpkins. I bought all of the beautiful tole trays from a wonderful Etsy shop called Vintage White Cottage last year. She has amazing items stop by and check it out.
My make shift mantle is ready for Fall with lots of natural and artificial foliage and pumpkins. Using old wooden boxes really adds a lot of texture and chippy charm to the vignette.
Here is one of the barn paintings that I painted. This one is for sale and I can also paint an original one that you like or have. All I need is your picture or ideas.
I don’t usually bring out my little deer family until Christmas time but I thought Fall was the perfect time for them this year being that the window that they are looking out of is the one that I saw the big buck looking through to say hi to me one day. True story!
One of my favorite photographs that my dad took was of this barn owl. I treasure it and have him hanging on an antique wooden hanger with some dried roses for Fall.
Above is the painting that I call “My Little House on the Prairie”. Send me a picture of your home, cottage, barn etc. and I will paint you an amazing portrait of it for your home.
A little embellishing is all it takes to bring in the Autumn feel into your home. Wrapping some string around a candle and sticking a colored leaf in it is so easy.
I just had to add this darling smile in to say hi.
That’s my sitting room for Fall. I want to share with you a little more of my art work. You can purchase them on my Etsy sight. If you don’t find the ones that you want just email me and I will put up a special sale for you on the site.

Welcome everyone. I have been very busy with my art and design projects this summer. It’s a good thing that I have this to fill my time because I have been chopping at the bit to repaint some furniture and ready Shabby Lane Cottage for Fall. I told myself that I had to wait a few weeks. It’s just still too hot outside and I don’t want people in my neighborhood to think I am crazy when I start hanging Fall wreaths on the front door! Alas, I have beautiful neighbors! Hi Susan and Kim! They know I can be little crazy at times.
I had the opportunity to go junk’n a while back with my sweet friend Susan, I wanted to share with you what my friend found and what she did with her find.
She bought this great shelf with three drawers at a thrift shop. It was in pretty rough shape and Susan turned it into a beauty. This hangs on the wall by her doorway. Susan loves color and I think that she incorporates it into her home with lots of charm and beauty. Crowning the shelf is my art work “King of the Forest”, which is now available through my Etsy Shop.
This piece is one that Susan has updated with light blue paint and white country knobs. Putting up a curtain covers her storage items and adds a romantic touch to her kitchen.
This is another great piece that Susan has in her kitchen. She has antiqued it with a sea foam green paint to add some depth and color to the ivory paint. I love the tiles on the back of the hutch. It’s so whimsical and charming. Thank you Susan for letting me share a little of your lovely cottage!
For those of interest here is a preview of what you will find in my Etsy Shop.

Using Shabby Pastel Colors in your Home
It is good to be back blogging. I have missed all of you! I hope that you are having an exciting summer full of fun-filled projects. I have been very busy with repainting furniture in Shabby Lane Cottage. When I moved in I decided not to redo anything until I really got a feel for the place. So last month I saw the big picture in my mind for how I wanted Shabby Lane Cottage to look, that’s when…
