" Blazkowicz. "
A tired voice, still as raspy and as gravelly as ever, fingers twitching as he tried to follow his own breathing technique to no avail. " ... I won't be able to go back to how I used to be ever again. If it's alright for me to ask... "
" ... May I ask for a hug before I go off trying to find Davoth? "
@agcnt1ne
---
"...Mr. Wesley." William muttered. Should he have never saved Wesley and allow him to die like the latter originally wanted instead? This old man was suffering, and this was all his fault.
Your fault.
No. What was he thinking? Why blame himself for what the source of everyone's suffering pulled on pretty much everyone?
...
William didn't say much else here. If old man wanted one last reminder of his humanity before he goes on an endless rampage once more...
Then he gets a hug. No question.
"...I'm sorry." Even if it wasn't really his fault, the green-armored Slayer was still inclined to. Perhaps a force of habit? Who knew?
âOld man Billy-- A man Grandpa Keen I share a name with. But not the title those tyrants of old gave him.â Ah, was this man mumbling alone?
âWhatever happened back in the old times? Been wondering if ya went through what I did... But with fiends wearing the mask of humanity, rather than the real deal.â
âOld bastard Davoth said that none of us are safe... Not until I put an end to the madness that he started.â
"Jesus, you're a big fuckin dude ain't ya." -angclbcrn (hi! I've been following for a while [side blog] and love your boy :])
...Oh, wow. Something along the lines of genuine compliment.
Blazkowicz hadn't heard of that for years.
"In case you mean that... Thank you." And he didn't bother remaining silent this time. "It's a lot of effort and discipline to maintain my physical well-being."
â...I miss being with my marine pals. And those space knights.â
A recently dead Deimos looked like he was rebuilt. What is he...
Oh. This appears to have the âI have this rock and Iâm NOT afraid to shoot fades with even that Auditor-looking asshatâ energy.
Blazkowicz might as well have met a bunch of chaotic freedom fighters, but if ANYTHING BAD ever happens to Nevada and that HELL of all places is responsible for it...
do-what-comes-naturalâ:
âFine. Iâll go with you. I have no idea how to get to hell myself.â
Hank sighed with relief. The possibility of seeing their friends again, as well as the certainty of another slaughter, has cheered them up a little.
âAnyhow, Iâm going to go to sleep, itâs getting hella late. Thank you again, Slayer.â
Hank made his way to the barracks. Another sleepless night was awaiting him.
â-
Sanford awoke after what felt like an eternity, alone, face down in a pool of blood. He got up, coughing up the nasty fluid, and found himself in a strange room of stone brick. The room was dimly lit with candles, scattered across the thing. The blood was covering the entire floor, pouring down from the mouths of the stone heads, embedded in the columns. Barely revealed by the lights, they looked exceptionally hideous.
But they were not the worst part of this place.
Right above the chamberâs exit, there was a body nailed to the wall and horrifically mutilated, with dried blood painting black whatâs left of the manâs head and chest.
âJust what the hell is this place?â
It did not take too much time to figure out. This place was hell, and he needed to get out as soon as possible. He needed to find Deimos.
Sanford left as fast as he could, trying to not look at the macabre sight above him.
Deimos, admittedly, had a hard time to navigate wherever he ended up on. This didnât look like anywhere in Nevada at all, no-- It was even worse.
Then, he heard cackling. What was that?
...Oh. Itâs those same monsters he killed, except. they were grey and purple.
And he didnât have any weapon with him. How was he going to fight then? With his bare hands?
Dear Lord, did he wish that he was still with Sanford. Poor man mustâve been alone too-- They donât work too well alone, but Deimos was certain he and his friend would make do.
Right now? There are monsters to fight. Will he die again? Yes. But he was used to hardship at this point.
---
Soon, it was only the Slayer and his Grunt counterpart.
âCanât sleep?â He hand-signed.
â...â Billy sighed. âYep. With Sanford and Deimos dead, and especially to the demons, Iâm having a hard time trying to wrap my head around all this.â
The Slayer remained silent for a while, pondering on the situation.
â...Even hardships are as fleeting as pleasures, pal.â Filtered voice could be heard from his helmet, but he sounded rough and baritone. Still capable of being lowered and soft though. âMake do with what you have.â
âWoah, you can talk?â Billy was quite taken aback by this.
âMhm. Letâs say youâve known one of my little secrets.â The Slayer nodded. âItâs just that I choose to remain silent until I find a good reason to speak. I...â
âIâve gone through so much you wonât be able to imagine being in my boots.â
âFair.â Billy simply responded. âYou said youâre a human, right? Whatâs it like to be one?â
âYeah. Iâm also something else entirely though, but that one... Iâm not too proud of being.â The Slayer replied, his voice lowered into a somber tone. âHumans are just as complex as... Ah, what do I call your kind?â
âWeâre grunts. Sometimes even referred to as Nevadans. Or Nevadians, if you prefer.â Billy took a look at the terminalâs computer. âI wonder how the rest of the U.S, let alone the world is doing right now. Nevada turned into its own little realm since the many Improbability Drive incidents.â
The armored man was still looking at the greyscale grunt. âThatâs gotta suck. Iâm pretty sure thereâs only a small chunk left of the Mojave. Yâknow, the desert?â
âThis makes me want to see Nevada in YOUR world looks like.â Billy shot a gaze at the Slayer this time. â...But itâs also in shambles because of Hell, right?â
A nod from the Slayer. âThose sick demon fucks will get whatâs coming to them.â
mecha-marksmanâ:
Rex makes a metallic sound similar to someone blowing air through their lips.
âWorking for him sounds like working for the military. Except worse.â
Rex follows the Slayer to the bridge, and he looks out the main viewing port.
âDamn⊠Iâm sure whatever military they had on earth put up as much of a fight as they could, but it looks like they got their asses kicked.â
Rex finds the codex terminal and begins reading every single codex entry he finds, which takes him about five minutes.
âThatâs really comprehensive. I appreciate that. It looks like I can overpower most of the basic fodder in hand to hand if I have to and possibly match the strength of some of the bigger ones, but most of the others Iâll have to use my high mobility to let me kill them with what might as well be a million paper cuts. Or turn the big ones into chunky demon stew with my rifle.â
âDemon stew, huh?â The Slayer wanted to laugh that one out, as much as he felt uncomfortable, internally. He had to get some Pinky pieces and cook them, then munch on them to even live when he was stuck in Hell as a normal human.
Never again.
âWhen I was trapped in Hell at one point, survival was vital. I ended up having to scavenge Pinky parts and roast them.âThe Slayer hand-signed. âNow I donât have to. Ainât missing that situation either.â
âDo tell me if youâre ready to embark. Iâll set up the portal coordinates if you do.â
do-what-comes-naturalâ:
Hank stared at the screen, informing the base of two menâs demise. It wasnât surprising given the circumstances, but was a grievous blow nonetheless.
â2BâŠâ
Hankâs voice sounded strained, as if they were trying to hold back tears. They felt rising pressure in the chest, a desire to kill someone who did this to the duo, as soon as possible and as brutally as possible.
ââŠDo you want me to go there? I can do it.â
2BDAMNED rubbed his temples and sighed.
âI understand what you are feeling right now, but no. I already told you that we canât just go in without preparation. And donât even think about leaving alone â I donât want to lose you there too. You should know by this point how dangerous demons are.â
âTsk. What are they gonna do, kill me?â
âJust calm down, goddammit. We will talk about it all in the morning.â
The Slayerâs clenched fist now eased back into a simply idle hand.
â2B is right. Panic and recklessness do no good in situations like this.â He hand signed. âI know how to navigate Hell-- Looking for Sanford and Deimos there wonât be much of a doozy.â
âBut if Hank wants to go in too, he has to go with ME. Itâs a whole massive labyrinth in there and who knows heâll get in too much trouble going alone as well.â The Slayer could be seen sighing beneath his helmet after âsayingâ what he needed.
âVEGA, alert everyone once morning arrives and get them assembled. Itâll be one urgent meeting.â
âAffirmative.â Vega responded.
â...Iâm good. I can stay up for as long as I need.â He focused his sight on Hank and 2B again. âI mean, immortality does suck, but someoneâs gotta keep watch.â
---
Deimos awoke with a start. This was not the helipad he died on. Rather, it was admittedly too warm of a patch of soil. It felt like... Brimstone? Was this...
Oh no. He might as well be in Hell. He whipped his head around, but Sanford was nowhere to be found. Did they both fall into different sections of this place?
There was some fire surrounding the environment he had risen from. He went to check on himself real quick.
Odd. His wounds from when one of the Barons killed him were healed. There were notable scars though. He wondered what kinds of nonsense this place would dish out on him.
âJust do what comes natural.â //malcolm to billy... /doom 1 billy/ huehehue..
"Shit, Malcolm..." William sucked a breath in. "Don't be pullin' a Tricky quote outta yer mouth in the middle of these murder mutants tryna KILL us."
The ex-member of the USMC and current guard staff of the Phobos outpost managed to shoot an Imp dead. "It's getting too damn quiet elsewhere. No radio feed thus far after those blood-curling screams."
"Ya got any plans, Agent One?" He knew that Malcolm was part of an agency dedicated to safeguarding the public, and from the hidden corners of society, at that. "That dumbass Weems didn't know that he was my target because I received complaints about him abusing his powers."
Well, there was the clue for Malcolm. And William admitted that he was being cheeky by not telling him who filled the role of Agent Three.
For once. For once. William is even more genuinely worried for old man Wes.
Even he wouldnât go ballistic like that. Should he have left him to die instead? But it didnât sound right-- He would not leave someone who could survive to be denied the chance to.
This also reminded him of that one time he stumbled upon a gladiatorial situation. Just. Why?
(MY BRAIN HURTS SO MUCH TRYING TO PROCESS THIS)
The Slayer may have not seen both Sanford and Deimos, nor has he gotten in touch with them personally. Yet.
But if Hell dares touch them both, he would unleash all manners of mayhem on the demons responsible.
do-what-comes-naturalâ:
Praying that the base will receive the message, Deimos took his P90 and opened fire on Kreloz again, going primarily for the face. Demon did not take this lightly, but unfortunately for him, Deimos was darting around baron much faster than the latter wanted.
Meanwhile Sanford hurled last of his grenades into Krigoneâs face and leaped away. As he was recovering, Sanford pulled out Mossberg 500 and unloaded everything it had into the demon.
This really hurt Krigoneâs ego.
âKrelozâs right. You little cunts are strong. The more satisfying itâll be when your souls are finally drained!â
Krigone realized that he throwing fireballs at the grunts is pretty much useless, as here, on open field, they can just leap out of the way. Unless, of course, they canât.
With that thought, fiery Baron charged his fireball once again, but instead of throwing it directly at Sanford, he hurled it on the floor near him. The projectileâs explosion has finally knocked the annoying grunt down.
Sanford struggled to get up, horribly burnt and staggered from the blast, only to meet face-to-face with Krigone.
Deimos screamed and ran toward the scene. He knew he was powerless to stop what was coming, but he could not let himself just stand there and watch. Unfortunately for him though, he was stopped by Kreloz, who quickly grabbed him.
Krigone, meanwhile, chopped off Sanfordâs head with his fiery arm blade. Demon watched in satisfaction as the now dead body of his opponent fell to the ground once again.
Deimos started to cry and unloaded last of the bullets into fireborne Baron to no avail.
Kreloz, in response, swung Deimos and smashed his body into the ground, turning his head into a pile of broken skull pieces and bloodied brain matter.
ââââââ
âShe is very good at her job. About questions, though, I guess Iâll start with the three. First, where exactly are you from? You certainly donât look like a nevadian. Second, you were talking about UAC. Who are these guys? And the thirdâŠâ
At this point Hank started to shake his hands again, but forced himself to stop.
ââŠWhere did you get all these big-ass guns?â
They said the last sentence with barely hidden excitement in their voice, in stark contrast to their usual monotone.
The Slayer looked at Hank and remained silent the whole questionnaire being directed at him. At the third question, he could already tell that the dressed Grunt also had an apparent affinity for guns.
Since he was unlike any, as Hank said, Nevadian, though Nevadan was more accurate to him internally, why not entertain those questions with answers?
âEarth. Much like yours if your world is also called that, but with less grey drab, no offense.â The Slayer hand signed. âIâm a long way from good olâ Texas; Gotta miss that city life in Austin.â
Billy was looking at the Slayer as he answered this particular question. So, same-ish state, huh? But he was more a Mesquite fella before moving here.
Now, for the next question. âUnion Aerospace Corporation. Spacefaring company, but I can hardly call it that these days.â The Slayer heaved a sigh. âLanded a job in their establishment after I got in trouble with my CO-- I was part of military service long ago.â
âThey thought opening portals to Hell was a good idea.â Bitter expression from beneath his helmet followed. â...I really donât have to tell ya much else, but those corporate bastards never learn.â
Now came his favorite question, and anticipating Hankâs excitement over it, heâd gladly answer. âI thought it would suffice if I told ya I was a military engineer, but Iâmma give you more than you have in bargain.â
âSome of my arsenal was given to me in the past. Some others I took from fallen owners or from stashes.â The Slayer continued before pointing at his equipment launcher. âBut this here launcher? Made it myself. You havenât seen the Ballista, but Iâll show ya later--â
âHank, Billy, Slayer!â A concerned 2BDamned rushed by. âVEGA needs your presence-- Something happened to Sanford and Deimos.â
Sanford and Deimos? Did they get in trouble?
âLetâs go.â Billy said as he hurried away from the others. The Slayer followed suit.
---
âSlayer,â VEGA began as the Slayer and the rest arrived. âThe base received the following message from two of its agents. I will open a playback audio transmission for you.â
âDeimos to Reno Base! We have a hostile First Contact Scenarioâ Two creatures with horns. One pink and brown, and the other looked like it is a living brimstone.â
âWarn the others. Weâll do our best, but Iâm afraid we wonât be able to return. Deimos out!â
Billy wasted no time and used the computer to track the sender and his friendâs life signals.
âERROR: LIFE SIGNAL(S) LOST.â
Fuck.
â...I think theyâre dead. Whomever they encountered killed them.â The armored grunt then slammed one of his gloved, metallic hands on the metallic shell of the terminal table. âDamn it! We probably just lost two of our best men...â
One of the Slayerâs hands balled into a fist. It was then, he could be heard muttering a word-- Rough and baritone, and filled with venom, considering what might have happened. âBarons...â
âHmm.â Looks like the Slayer was pondering about something while using the computer in his living space.
âAlmost anyone on social media would have hounded on me over... Letâs say, pineapple bits on a pizza.â He monologued to himself. âDunno if Earth now still has Internet. Itâd be funny to watch people still argue over food though.â
do-what-comes-naturalâ:
Hank, now all stitched and bandaged up, got up from the bed and thanked Kyle. She responded with a tired smile.
âYou welcome. Iâm always here, if anything happens.â
Hank put on their coat and walked out of the infirmary, looking for Billy and Slayer. He sauntered aimlessly, thinking about all the bizarre shit that happened today.
ââââââ
Sanford looked to the walls of living gore before them.
âIndeed. But the question isâŠâ
Loud hiss of the now-familiar red orb of flesh interrupted his words. It broke into the building through the broken window and now was staring with malice at itâs future meals.
ââŠcan we even fucking get there!-â
Sanford grabbed Deimosâ hand and started running upstairs, dodging incoming blasts of narcotic bile. Thankfully, however strong and tough the beast was, it was certainly lacking in speed.
The two stopped as they saw a crowd of zombified agents. Now they have a choice: either deal with zombies or with essentially a flying fleshy tank.
Without a second thought the duo got to work, clearing the room of demonic presence. It didnât take too long before the last of the undead fiend fell from a shotgun slug to the face, reducing it to chunks of skull and brain matter.
Deimos smiled smugly as he dropped his cigarette in the crimson puddle.
âNice paint job we did here, San, donât ya think? And you said it would be hard.â
Sanford only sighed heavily in response, with an irritated and exhausted look on his face.
âYeah, yeah, we did, letâs just get outta here.â
Now with new guns, fresh from the fallen zombies, the two mercenaries were rushing towards the supposed escape from their predicament.
A lot of staircases and a lot of AAHW agents, zombified or otherwise later, the duo finally got up the rooftop-- And what a sight it was.
The sky alone was a bigger mess than it was-- It looked like it was burning with fiery clouds, followed by strikes of red lightning accompanying it from afar. Deimos, of course, could see the helipad nearby with a chopper that he and Sanford could get their ride out of this already damned base.
âThere it is--! Go go GO!â Deimos urged Sanford to run towards the helipad as he dealt with more zombies and a pair of Imps.
But the both of these Grunts stopped dead in their tracks once they witnessed another pair of demons-- Those of which would put even the biggest MAG Agents to shame.
One was, surprisingly enough, normal-looking with pink hide and furred legs with hooves. The other, however, looked like they were on fire.
âEnd of the line, boys.â And one of them even spoke a language that Sanford and Deimos could understand. Rough and distorted, but definitely masculine. This was Kreloz. âYou both look tough-- But maybe an induction to Hell will strengthen you further.â
âShit.â Sanford muttered under his breath, hook gripped tightly. âHey, big oaf. I donât care who you are, but Iâm gunna ask ya to leave.â
âMake us. If you can.â The Fireborne Baron of Hell, Krigone, simply responded.
âSan, they ainât budging.â Deimos whispered. âUnless some sort of improbability happens AND it favors us, weâre gonna fuckinâ die here.â
âNot without a fight, Dei.â Sanford was about ready to scuffle against these huge abominations. âRemember that.â
âRight.â Deimos had little choice but to join Sanford in what might be the last fight of their lives. âGotta warn the base of what weâre facing though. I didnât want to do this mid-fight, but....â
Deimos was the first to open fire on one of the two Barons, prompting what was nothing short of a one-sided battle to ensue. Like Hell these two would die without resistance though.
And already the fight was on the losing side for them both-- Krigone decided to hurl a green projectile towards the helicopter, destroying it in the process. Judging from who his mission partner aimed for, he called dibs for Sanford without even telling him.
Kreloz, on the other hand was going after Deimos. âThis is going to be goodâ, he thought.
âDeimos to Reno Base!â Deimos did say that connection here in the AAHW base was shitty, but he tried to reach out to it anyway. âWe have a hostile First Contact Scenario-- Two creatures with horns. One pink and brown, and the other looked like it is a living brimstone.â
âWarn the others. Weâll do our best, but Iâm afraid we wonât be able to return. Deimos out!â
---
It only took a moment for Hank to finally find the Slayer and Billy, who had just finished the tour. Their attention was now focused on him.
âHey, Hank.â If Billy had a mouth heâd smile. âKyle patchinâ ya up good, eh? You said you have questions to ask Doomguy here.â
The Slayer nodded in confirmation.
âWell, what are you waiting for?â
