2 Atlanta police officers were fired after tasing college students driving home from a protest for George Floyd
David "Yaya" McAtee was someone I only met a few times, and we never knew each other personally but he was an incredibly kind person and wonderful business owner, and I'm lucky to have met someone like that at all. He was a light in the lives of everyone that met him, and was so very kind. He made Louisville a better place. He even fed cops for free. LMPD shot and killed him early this morning, and his body was left on the pavement in West Louisville in front of the community for 12 hours. Their bodycams weren't on, and the police chief was just fired, but that's not enough. The National Guard is still here. LMPD still gets to treat people like this, and we aren't even allowed the time and space to mourn without risking police confrontation and violence. The senseless anger and violence directed towards black people in Louisville and across the country (as our community still mourns the loss and murder of Breonna Taylor, an EMT from Louisville) from police and the justice system needs to end now. It's traumatic. It's evil. It's horrific. We're tired.
Please read this interview Yaya gave in 2018, he was such a genuine and caring person. I cannot imagine how his friends and family feel right now. May he rest in power.
