How to Make Grilled Bloody Mary’s Recipe (by Cooking-Outdoors.com)
This looks amazing. And incredibly cool. I'll have to try it when I am home in Seattle and there is a grill available for me....
Need to make this one day: the Hearth Bloody Mary. Cuz some days you need a pitcher.
Most days I just need a pitcher....
Alos, I like the idea of dark brown sugar, could add something nice. Will have to keep that in mind.
Who was Mary?
(Mary Pickford)
The origins of the name for the best cocktail ever are unclear. We know it was origioally called the Red Snapper, because calling something Bloody is SUPER rude, but after a time the name was changed to Bloody Mary. But why? And about who?
There are four popular options of who Mary was, some make it seem like Bloody is a compliment, and others like an insult.
1. Mary Tudor, the 16th Century English queen nicknamed "Bloody Mary" by her enemies because of her love of death by fire for hetorics.
2. The silent film actress and a founding member of The Acadamy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, Mary Pickford.
3. A bartender's girlfriend who was regularly late, who must have been named Mary. (I don't think I like this one, because it implies domestic violence.)
4. The well loved bartender named Mary from Chicago bar called the Bucket of Blood.
I think I like number two best, becasue she is the prettiest, and I LOVE pretty things. I would also hate to think that this drink named after anything but talent and kindness, so if number four is true, I'm alright with it.
Breakfast
#NeedNotWant
I know it isn't a Bloody Mary, but it is an amazing alcoholic beverage so I thought I'd share the recipe. I made this dry sangria for a friends BBQ and "accidentally" hit it from all the other guests, so it only served like 8 of us, but that was probably a mistake.
1.5 liter bottle of Pino Grigio
1 cup of white run (and then a little more for good measure)
Strawberries sliced
Blueberries
Raspberries
1 lime and one lemon sliced real thin
1 apple cut up real small
2 bottles of lemon lime seltzer (2 liters)
In the morning, before your big (or small) party, put everything into a big bowl except the seltzer. The more fruit/berries the better really. There can't be too much. If you taste it now it will be gross and strong. I left it in the fridge for around 8 hours, but it can be less. When the party is about to get started, add the seltzer, a little more rum for good measure, and some ice. Serve in mason jars for the most hipster approach! And enjoy!
In Pittsburgh they don't have Bloody Mary's at brunch...
These bitters make a good Bloody great.
Worlds best Bloody Mary
Where?
Bluegrass bloody. Bourbon and pickle juice. At Five Points.
I'll get that.
Bloody Mary Punch
If you are having a brunch party, really the best kind of party, I highly recommend a Bloody Mary Bar (BMB). A BMB will allow your guests to a) have fun and b) only get as drunk as they want so they can't blame you when they go can't go out that night because of their drunken 6pm stooper.
This punch is INCREDIBLY easy to make. I got the idea from here but totally adjusted according to my love of spice. I made this for my Chanukah party, which was in December (duh) so we also had Mulled Wine, which isn't appropriate for this season, so I will give you that recipe in the future...
BMB needs will be different depending on how many people you are having at your party, so this is all approximate. As all Bloody Marys go, you must taste and adjust to your wants and needs.
Mix:
1 46-oz container of vegetable juice (I used V8)
1.5 tablespoon of hot sauce (I used Tabasco)
2 tablespoon of horseradish
1 teaspoon old bay seasoning
2 tablespoon olive juice
1 juice-able lime
Salt and pepper to taste
Combine the first five ingredients and then juice a lime into the mix. (For juicing limes, the trick is to stick a fork into it and twist while squeezing. This will change the way you juice citrus if you don't have a juicer in your home.) Put in salt and pepper. Put in a little more. Mix well and leave this juice a pitcher.
Put the pitcher NEXT TO the handle of vodka that you bought for the party so people know that the vodka isn't in the mix and they must combine themselves. If you want to be classy, you can put the vodka in a separate pitcher as well. Put a couple shot glasses for the pansies that want to actually know how much vodka they are drinking. Put garnishes next to this as well. It is a DIY type of event. The garnishes I had were:
Olives (LOTS)
Lime slices
Celery sticks
But you can do whatever you want. Seriously. You can't go wrong. Bacon would be great, cheese cubes, shrimps, Slim Jim's, more salt and pepper, pickled okra, pickles, asparagus? carrots? sliders?... get creative!
Most importantly... ENJOY! And don’t forget to have a couple of these bad boys yourself!
It is so good. And so spicy. So many pickles. Get it.
This beaut is from Walter's Brooklyn, on a lovely Sunday morning with the beautiful Kelly being fierce in the background. We all (my friend Marissa was also with us, so three of us) decided that this BM didn't get a lot of points for creativity with the garnishing, but it was very delicious. So delicious in fact, that I had to ask for a second straw about half way through because my first straw got clogged with horseradish. An INCREDIBLE reason to need a second straw.
The whole brunch was great, I will definitely be going back for more. BUT if you are vegetarian I would keep in mind that this is a seafood restaurant, so I doubt this Bloody was vegetarian.
