The moment Adamâs lips quirked into a grin, Shay pulled the gun from his pocket. His hand flew just past her ear, hitting the man in the throat. HARD, causing them to stumble back several feet and fall into a small shelving unit. A few items crashed to the floor just as the immortal grabbed him. But Shay grabbed onto a pillar, steadying herself for a moment as she watched Adam.Â
Maybe he was a little bit of a badass, not that the brunette hadnât already learned that a while ago.
Eyes didnât leave Adam as he pulled out his own knife and rammed it into the manâs gut. Watching the immortal lose his shit, becoming just a tiny bit unhinged and over protective, was oddly attractive. However, before Shay could truly appreciate the scene and how far Adam dug his knife in, a man snuck up behind him.Â
Instinctively, her hand came up, pointing the gun in Adamâs direction just as the immortal stood. âSorry, lover.â The apology wasnât for the betrayal that was inevitably running through his head, but for the likelihood that she was likely going to graze his ear.Â
So focused on his revenge, the bloodlust he happily allowed himself to indulge in, Adam hadnât considered the possibility of reinforcements from behind. At Shayâs words, attention returned to her as baby blues widened. Everything was happening so fast, and now she was pointing a gun at him...? Mouth opened to speak, probably some smartass remark, but before a sound was uttered, the weapon went off. Eyes instinctively snapped closed as fate ran its course.
Silence... eventually broken by a body hitting the floor with a thump... and then again by a rather annoyed Englishman. âBloody hell, woman...â Hand cupped his ear as he breathed through clinched teeth. It was like a paper cut, in a way, as such wounds stung if Adam hadnât built up tolerance in that area. And in all his years, his ears had rarely been tampered with. And so, the unfamiliar feeling of pain swept through him a moment as the skin from the side of his face and shell of his ear regrew itself. But it wasnât her fault, as the immortal hadnât mentioned this minor detail to her before.
Glancing back, Adam surveyed her kill. âExcellent work, love. Just a tip for next time though â unless Iâm wearing one of my expensive suits, feel free to shoot through my shoulder or such, wonât hurt that way.â As he spoke, knife was sheathed before one of the other hidden guns was pulled from his clothing and readied. âHe came from there, yes?â Aiming toward the back door, the immortal walked toward it. âSo, we either go in, guns blazing, or we retreat, back into the crowd?â Where they could attempt the same tactic again. âI have a better idea â you hide,â he nodded toward a suitable place in the store, âwhile I go in and take them out.â He absolutely knew she wasnât going to go for this plan, but he was at least going to try.
